Jim's Clock Service & Repair

I contacted Jim and described the problem. He originally thought the clock was unrepairable but asked me to send pictures. He was able to come up with an alternate plan: replace the electric motor with a battery-operated version while keeping the integrity of the looks. I was able to pick up the finished product within hours. It keeps great time, looks great, and the price was reasonable. I would definitely use Jim's services in the future.

Jim did a great job with our old mantel clock. He had to order a special part to fit, but he got it done in a week and it works perfectly now!

Jim is very knowledgeable and honest in assessing the work he could do. The clock has chimed for over 30 years but the mechanism is worn. Jim did the best he could and the clock sounds terrific. I would have him back again.

Extremely well! Jim is very very knowledgable on all clocks - he has been doing this for many years. He was here when expected to fix the grandfather clock and he oiled and did maintenance on it as well as fixing our problem. He was very respectful of the area he worked in - put down a blanket so as not to harm anything. Grandfather has been working wonderfully since he came out. The antique clock had a broken spring so Jim took it with him to order the spring and fix it. He said the approximate time it would take and he was right. When he brought the clock back I was amazed. Jim and cleaned the frame with lemon oil and the inside and face of the clock and the glass - it was beautiful!! Jim seems to truly enjoy his work and it shows in the end result. I also appreciated that he was able to tell me which of my clocks were not work repairing. I am afraid the time will come when it is difficult to find a craftsman like Jim to care for our clocks, but in the meantime I’ll always call him1

I was not home, but Jim worked with my wife Vera and found the problem with the clock. He replaced the missing parts and lubed the clock. The 35 years vanished175 the clock runs like new again,

Jim was meticulous and even spent the time to teach me how to maintain the clock.

Jim is honest, professional and knowledgeable about old and antique clocks. He responded to my concern over the phone and said he thought it wasn't a spring but would have a look at the clock. He was sure it could be fixed. I was sure the clock had finally broken beyond repair. He had me bring the clock to his home where he did all the repair work and checked it out thoroughly. He is honest and capable and knows his stuff. Said he comes from a long line of clock repairmen.

I walked up to his door and asked if he could repair a clock I had with me. He took a look and gave me a price. He the repaired it on the spot. 15 minutes later I was on my way home with a pendulum clock woking once again. He knows his stuff!

We have a 25 year old grandfather clock that quit working. I found Jim on Angie's List and gave him a call. He was close by and stopped by that morning, looked at the clock and determined that he could fix the problem on the spot. He also cleaned, oiled, and balanced the unit and it is as good as new!

He came over to my house and checked out my clock, which was too big to drag around town. He turned it from an old damaged broken clock to one that's new and pretty and works very well. I told my cousin about him - she had a grandfather cloth that hadn't worked in years - and he went right over there and turned hers into something wonderful again. I really liked him, and his performance, and how genuine he was.

He removed the workings of the clock. He oiled and cleaned the workings He had to replace a part that the pendulum attaches to, which was a bit awkward but he got it. A new nut was placed of the small bolt for the hands. Jim, also was very good in explaining what he was doing, how the clock was going to work and did suggest that if I wanted to replace the movement, he called to make sure it was available and the general cost. He was friendly and I was extremely pleased with the service. I will call him again when I need or decide to replace the movement.

If you want someone who throughly knows clocks and offers his services at a VERY, VERY reasonable price....THEN THIS IS YOUR GUY!!!!! We are extremely satisfied with the workmanship and knowledge we received from Jim. As he worked, he explained in great detail about our grandfather clock and what every part was and did in the actually working of the clock. Jim throughly answered all of our questions and we sensed he had a true passion for his trade of work. He was very careful as took apart and reassembled all of the delicate parts of the clock and maintained a high attention to the smallest details. We learned so much about the clock, I inherited from my own grandfather who had built the entire clock and wood cabinet himself. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND Jim to anybody looking for an expert in clock repair and maintenance and I know every time I have a question or need any type of service, Jim will be the only person I call to come and service/maintain our invaluable family heirloom.

Very prompt, kind and did a great job and gave me a little education about a clock that had been in the family for years. Definitely recommend to others if you need clock work.

Everything that he did was outstanding. There was one clock that was a challenge that actually we just brought back from him not to long ago but even though he spent a lot of hours on it than he thought, he did not charge us that more than he originally quoted but the work was great. It was a clock that you have to wind but you don't wind ever, it's antic. The other we had worked on was a mental clock, and we had him completely replace the inside and that one is working great and he may take a little time than he thinks but the end product is perfect. He actually takes the time to show you if there is something you need to twink on the clock.

I called Jim up and he said I could come over anytime. Monday is the day he works out of his home which is also his shop. He had a heck of a time getting the back of the off since it was sealed tightly. With a little finesse and a small crow bar Jim was able to pry the back of the clock off, tighten the hand and put it all back together. It took him about 15 minutes and he only charged me $10! Jim was very conscientious and careful in his work. I certainly will use him again for any clock repair needs!

I had my Grandfather Clock professionally moved to MN for another state in July of 2012 and then stored it for a year before moving into my new place in MN. I needed someone to come and set it up and start it for me. I found Jim on Angie's List and gave him a call. He returned by call within a couple of hours and we set up an appointment for the following day. Jim arrived as promised, looked at my clock and gave me an estimate. He then proceeded to clean, balance and set up my clock. He started it and took me through the basics of adjusting it if it runs too fast or too slow, how to adjust the time when the time changes twice a year and how to adjust the moon phase. He also said I could call him anytime with a question. It took him about and hour and the price was as estimated. I am thrilled to have my clock working again and chiming on the quarter hour as well as marking the hour.

Jim came out, took quick look at our grandfather clock and told us the movement is very worn after 30 years which caused chimes to fail. A receipt in the bottom of clock proved he happened be the one to do last repair on this clock 22 years ago, when he worked at another business before starting his own clock repair company. He wouldn't charge anything for the trip, since he could not repair it, but checked on price of a new movement, quoted an installed price, and said we could think it over. Though rather expensive, we called Jim later that day, and he ordered the part, then came out a week later to install it and offered a 1 year warranty as well. Only caution is this is not an inexpensive repair at $475 plus tax. One last note, he left the used clock movement with us. We were able to sell it on eBay for $32, which reduced our net cost (paid the tax). Jim's very friendly, and trustworthy. A good local source for repair of our family heirloom.

I called and set up a time with Jim to look at my grandmother's antique striking kitchen clock which no longer would strike the hour or half hour. He examined the clock, pointed out the broken parts, explained what he would need to do to fix the problems, and gave me an estimate on cost as well as the time it would take. He also discovered that I had been using the wrong size key to wind the clock and this had contributied to the problem. Jim found the correct size key and demonstrated how this would ease the winding of my clock. After the three weeks estimated time he had given me, Jim called to let me know my clock was repaired and ready to be picked up. He explained what he had done to repair the clock so it would strike on the hour and half hour. Jim went beyond what I had expected because he also repaired the loose wooden frame around the glass front and the wooden base. He had cleaned and polished it . I was very impressed with Jim's quick assessment of my clock's problems including having the wrong winding key. I was even more impressed by the polished look of my repaired striking clock. This clock is not only a treasured heirloom, but now is a working clock that can be enjoyed by more generations. It was obvious Jim takes great pride in his work, and I would highly recommend him to anyone with a clock in need of repair.

I contacted Jim on Monday and we arranged for him to come over Wednesday. He arrived on time, and in an hour moved, leveled, cleaned and lubricated our clock. He is very respectful of customers' homes, and is friendly and professional.
