I felt very much taken advantage of by this guy, as he knew there was nobody in my area who services jukeboxes - so Dan's attitude was basically - and quot;milk him for every dime!and quot;
When Dan came to my home the first time - I put him on a plane and flew him into Bismarck. The round trip ticket cost me around $860.00.
When I needed to have my AMI Continental-2 serviced - Dan told me that he would rather drive to Bismarck than fly - and he said being that I paid $860.00 for his round trip airfare the first time - that he wanted $860.00 to drive instead - claiming that is what it was going to cost him in gas anyway. The distance from Bismarck to Blooming to is only about 400 miles each way. On top of the $860.00 he was paid each time - I also had to pay him another $700.00 for his and quot;service call.and quot; - which totaled $1500.00 per visit + 1 night in a hotel.
When Dan was at my home to fix the jukebox - it was a and quot;rushed joband quot; - he did get it (barley) working - but there were still issues as far as the records magazine not stopping dead center between the grippers arm - when I talked to Dan about this - his response was - and quot;Just bend the spokes a little bit!and quot; - Anyone who knows anything about jukeboxes knows - YOU NEVER DO THIS!
Dan ended up taking my amp from the jukebox back to Bloomington with him so he could and quot;rebuild itand quot;.Dan said it would take about 1 week to finish the amp - it actually took him a month and he blamed the delay of his friend Kim! (wow, some friend!) Whenever I would call him to see how the amp was coming along, Dan would get very agitated and yell and quot;You're not my only client!!and quot; The last time I called before he came back to my home to install the amp - he started yelling and screaming about how he has been working since 7:30 in the morning and it was now 8:30pm and he had just got to sit down for the first time that day and start eating he Taco Bell. As rude and unprofessional as he was being - I decided to tolorate him because I needed him to bring my amp back.
After all this - he finally came back to my home - (cha-ching!! another $1500.00 in his pocket) and installed the amp - and the sound from the jukebox was still distorted. He said we needed to go to a Radio Shack and buy a receiver that had a phono input - so we did that - and that is now how my jukebox is hooked up!
I will NEVER be calling this guy again in this or any other lifetime!
"This review blindsided me because below is the last contact we had a about one week after my repairs were completed, he indicated to me he was completely satisfied. These are direct quotes (cut and pasted) from instant message to me. August 19th, 6:47pm Hello Dan... Just wanted to let you know - the jukebox is working great!! Vince - my poor neighbor... he must know it's working great to!! Anyway... just wanted to say - THANK YOU again - for making the trip to Bismarck!! I think I am going to replace those 6X9's in the jukebox - they don't sound as good as the other ones that I hooked up. It should be pretty easy to swap them out - when I bring down that front panel - in front of the machine - they are right there. I will stop by Best Buy and ask for the best they have. I will take some pix later on - after you left Sunday - I went to Lowes and bought some wall molding to hide all the wires - so you do not see any wire along the wall that fo over to the receiver - it all cleaned up very nice. Have a great week! Thanks [Member], I’m glad you’re happy with my work. and that you are enjoying the machine (finally) Because of this I’m struggling to find fact or reason in his statement. Mr. [Member] has subsequently blocked my attempts to contact him regarding his complaint. If I had been given the opportunity would have tried in earnest to sort this out. Mr. [Member] had already used my services several months before, therefore he knew exactly what to expect for labor fees and workmanship prior to re-hiring me. When the job was completed I repeatedly asked him if I had addressed each of his concerns to his satisfaction. He paid me and told me he was very happy. So, I continue to be confused and troubled by this situation. I take great pride in my work, I have worked hard to develop and maintain an excellent reputation since 1974."
The jukebox had been sitting for at least 30 years. Plastic was broken, paint peeling off, didn't work, lights missing/not working, etc. A real mess. My dad wouldn't let us get rid of it and always said that someday he would do something with it. We got tired of waiting so called Dan Coulter. Dan came to our home and picked up the jukebox and took it to his shop. We kept in communication during the several month process, even going to look at it a couple times to see the progress.
Dan refurbished all the mechanical stuff, replaced old wiring, cleaned and painted, got all the lights working, sourced and ordered parts as required, and even had a furniture repair shop refinish the birch veneer on the cabinet. It turned out beautiful and is now worth many times the cost to restore it. We spent a couple hours at Cheapo records buying new records for it. Dan even loaded the new records and printed new labels for the buttons with the new songs.
Our goal was to have it done for Father's day and surprise dad. Dan had a bit of a back log, but got it done and delivered it to my folks house on father's day while they were out. We put a GoPro camera near the jukebox so we could see my parents reaction when they saw it. Priceless!!
