He started the job late and didn't finish when he said he would. He'd estimated a certain number of days to complete the job and on some days when we'd come home he'd been there a whole day but had only put up 1 piece of wood. He seemed to have a lot of excuses for not working like "wood not coming in", "my in-laws are sick" or "I think I'm coming down with something". His schedule was very sporadic and we never knew when to expect him. He just seemed to do what he wanted when he wanted. The thing that prompted this report was the frustration that I had to pay him for services he performed that I specifically told him not to do. We fired him 2 days after he said it would have been been completed. We'd come home that day to find another wasted day and still unfinished. In final negotiations on his bill at the time of firing he did agree to discount the total invoice about 20% of the total hours worked doing things he was told not to do. That compensated for some of the work he did that he was instructed not to do but we still felt he was being overpaid a considerable amount and we're still left with hiring another contractor to complete the work. Just a note: When he hands out his business card it has a license number on it but it's not his. We did investigate that and found he does have a license number but it wasn't that one so he's handing out cards. That has inaccurate information.
