I was very happy to find this firm, because it's hard to find someone to repair home electronics.  The staff was helpful, the phone call I got (from Alex) asking key diagnostic questions gave me the sense that I was in expert hands, and the cost turned out to be less than I was expecting.  That sort of thing doesn't happen often, unfortunately.

cannot describe in detail because it was too technical for me to understand.
all i can say is  this guy did great work, was incredibly knowledgeable, exploring all possibilities to discern the issue, and honest enough to acknowledge he was not sure if the problem would  or would not return.
it's been about a year now or more since he was here and we've had no need to call him back.
the good thing is our tv is a Pioneer, not the most glamorous, high profile brand, yet he had no problems diagnosing the issues, one, by one.  nice guy to do business with.

Alex not olny completed the repairs in a excellent, professional manner, did it on a Saturday without requesting it to be done asap.  This is the second time I've used Alex Audio Services and both times outstanding results.  Very responsive, provided diagnostics of problem and estimate before coming out.  Cost was under estimate.  Would highly recommend Alex Audio Services.

I picked up the unit 11/30/12 after the technician fixed solder joints in the main bridge diode area.  I brought it in on 2/4/13 as the tuner was now intermittent.  I never heard anything so I started calling on 6/11/13.  The first person I talked to said she would talk to the technician and get back to me.  She never did.  I called again on 6/19 and that person said the same thing.  He never did.  I called again on 7/15 and talked to a different person who referred me to the first person I had contacted.  She did call back and say the technician that normally had worked on my unit (this was the 5th time in 7 years I took it there for a problem with solder joints) was unsure of the problem so she was going to transfer the problem to a different technician.  They called back on 7/22 and said it was ready.  I suspect the delay in working on my unit was that it was under warranty for work completed on 11/30/2012 so they would not make any money working on my unit.  Very frustrating trying to get them to complete the work.  I have to use this provider in the future as he is the only stereo repair place in the Twin Cities, MN.

CD changer was not working.  We took it to Alex Audio/Video shop in New Hope.  They repaired it within 2 weeks.  The work was completed very satisfactorily at a reasonable cost.  This CD changer was an old (20 years) Yamaha.

When I dropped the receiver off, I said the crackling, spitting noise was occasional, was heard on all inputs (TV, etc.) through the speakers, but not heard in the preamplifier output I use for the wireless headphones.  I authorized up to $150.
Much later they called, telling me they found many bad solder connections on the tuner board, and it was being fixed.  I said fine, but I thought that this made no sense because the noise was on all inputs, such as the TV, when the tuner is not connected.  A week later they called, saying the tuner needed a new IF transformer, and would I authorize an additional $25; I said OK.  Another week later they called and said the transformer was not available, the receiver couldn't be fixed, and asked what I wanted them to do with the carcass?  I responded I knew something about circuitry and nothing I was hearing made any sense.  She condescendingly asked if I had experience in repairing electronic equipment, I said no, and she said they were experts.  I think she meant to shut me up, and she did.  I answered I wanted it put back together as is.  However, when I picked the receiver up, I was now told a capacitor had been replaced, the noise was fixed, but the FM sound was badly distorted.  I thought the bill would be less than the $175 I had authorized for the IF transformer they ultimately couldn't find, but it was $175.
I set the receiver up at home.  The noise was gone initially, but the FM was now so bad it was unuseable.  Several months later the noise returned and the FM sound improved somewhat.  Several weeks later the left channel screached once and went silent.  I eventually took the receiver apart, found Alex Audio's new capacitor, and took out that circuit board.  As I looked it over, I saw a wire harness with several bad connections.  I resoldered the harness, and put everything back together.  The receiver worked perfectly (including FM), and still works perfectly after 5 months.  Overall, Alex Audio seemed to be lost, wandering around in the circuitry until they stumbled over a capacitor (which may, or may not have been defective), while missing a problem that should have been obvious.
Response from Alex Audio Video and Computer Service
"In response to your complaint. We always will stand by our work and although we have a 90 day warranty if the problems occur again after more than 90 days and it is the same issue we would have gladly looked at your receiver again. I do have several notes regarding this repair and I personally worked with the tech. The capacitor we replaced was bad and the unit must have worked for sometime before the failure occured again. This is an old receiver and there can be multiple issues. Your repair cost was $162.36 and given the opportunity I am sure we would have found the secondary problem. Sorry if I sounded condescening it is not in my nature and never has been. Hopefully your receiver will give you years of great sounding music. It is a nice receiver."

The DVR was finished within a week at the Bloomington store. The stereo had to be transferred to the New Hope store and took about 2 weeks to get it back.

My first repair started in January 2012 when my receiver stopped working.  It took four months and multiple phone calls to get the repair completed. Unfortunately, the receiver stopped working again, exactly the same issue that had been repaired. I took it to Alex Audio for the warranty work. Dropped it off at the Bloomington location on 07/18/2012.  I called on 8/24/12 to check on the repair. Told parts were ordered. 9/20/12 called, told parts on order. Called 11/1/12, told computer shut down for the the night at 1630 and that Alex Audio would call back the next day. No call. Called 11/2/12, told no technician available to update me. Called 11/29/12, no one could tell me what was happening with my receiver and that I should call the New Hope location. Called the New Hope location, rudely told by the gentleman answering the phone that he had no idea about my repair status and I would have to wait for the technician later in the afternoon. Called back in the afternoon, no one could help me. 6 months later, no receiver, no information, repair still not completed. Never have received any contact from Alex Audio. Nothing.
Response from Alex Audio Video and Computer Service
"We would like to apoligize for the delay in servicing this receiver. We have replaced a total of 41 parts in this receiver under a factory warranty twice. The first time it was repaired the left and right channels were blown and several parts were required. The second time the entire surround channel was blown up and it did take us more time because we had multiple parts we had to order at different times. Sometimes it is difficult under this type of situation to get a fast turnaround because there is a lot of trouble shooting that is involved and we have to replace parts then order more when you have to rebuild a circuit. We do not have the luxury of board replacement we must go down to component level. Our company really works hard to keep our customers informed but we cannot always have exact answers when the technicians have to rebuild circuitry. We do care about our customers and our companies reputation and are always striving for ways to improve. We are one of the very few companies who repair old and new audio. We do not feel we deserve an "F" under the circumstances and the repairs we had to perform on this receiver. We will use this negative to make possitive for our future success in staying in business and providing quality repairs and service."

The guy was a genius. He understood what I was talking about over the phone. He was prompt. He was very knowledgeable. My TV was messing up. He had equipment and knowledge at his finger tips. I thought it was very impressive.

I would rate them excellent.  I have a NEC analog TV and not an LCD, but they did such a good job, that is better than a new one.  They have in-house people who follow up with the scheduling also.

Brought my old receiver in for repairs. It was not producing good sound - static and cutting out. They asked for $50 up front to make an assessment.
My stereo is now working great. The owner agreed it was worth repairing even though it was an old receiver.

I told them I thought the drive mechanism was bad and asked if they fixed it. They said yes, it would be $50 to look at it. They said they would contact me within a week. Three weeks later I called. They called back and said that it was drive mechanism but they would not recommend repairing the unit as it would be much more expensive than sending it to the Panasonic Exchange center. So, I wasted 3 weeks and $50 dollars for them to tell me the problem I thought it had was too expensive for them to fix.

Our Sharp Aquos LCD TV began to have problems turning on--we would have to cycle it on and off up to 20 times before the picture would stay on. It was out of mfg warranty but was still under Costco warranty, and the Costco concierge service recommended Alex. They called us, arranged a pickup time, and showed up promptly. Several days later I called and they hadn't had a chance to look at it yet. The next day they did look at it and repaired it quickly, but I only knew that because I called them to ask. I don't know how long it would have been if I hadn't called. They could not return it to me, because their truck had broken down, so I drove out and picked it up. The repair was done well, and the total time was about a week. But after the pickup, I had to initiate every interaction with them.
