Overall, the whole process was pretty uneventful. I asked Peter all the questions I could think of, he was very patient and answered all my questions. Peter and his crew arrived at the time agreed upon and everything proceeded smoothly. The crew seemed well organized, skillful and worked steadily through the day. When they were finished they cleaned up after themselves and left. I am very satisfied with everything connected with the job.
We had them pre-stain the new frames.
The installation team did the majority of the work over two days. The screen for the sliding glass door took a few extra days as the part was not shipped.
Team cleaned up nicely after themselves, took care of all of the haul-away, recaulked the new windows, etc.
We have used The Window Replacement Company for all of our doors, and most of our windows over the years - three sliding doors, front door, bathroom window, and most recently five picture windows in the family room. They are very good, reasonably priced, and can install most manufacturers (we are partial to Marvin Windows). Peter gives his recommendations for windows, is a good listener, measures only once, and everything fits and looks beautiful. The installers are professional, seasoned, and precise. They clean up after themselves, and make sure you are happy before leaving.
There are more windows we'll need to replace, and we?ll call The Window Replacement Company when we continue.
My painter came the next day to stain the windows to match the existing woodwork and touch up the exterior. He noted that the windows were beautifully installed and trimmed out inside and out, but that the caulk on the top of the windows outside was not done well (there were gaps in it which could have allowed moisture intrusion.) He corrected it and touched it up. This was the only issue I had with the window installation, and I called Pete who immediately offered to have someone come over and fix it. I told him my painter took care of it, but asked him to mention it to his crew as attention to detail is of great importance in keeping moisture out of homes. He absolutely agreed; dealing with Pete and the others at WRC was always a pleasure, and despite the small caulking issue, I recommend The Window Replacement Company and will use their services again.
Peter does not use a contract and we did not have any agreement about what would happen if rot was discovered when the old frame was removed and remedial woodwork was necessary. . Not surprisingly, we found some degredation and rot in the underlying wood when the old frame was removed. The installer and I cooperated in fixing it. He ate lunch while I ran out to buy Minwax wood hardener which I dumped on the rotted area and then patched with plastic wood. He replaced a piece of wood with a section of two by four which I provided to him. There was no extra charge for his work. I was very pleased at how this worked out.
I would have rated the overall quality of the work as an A rather than a B except that Peter made a mistake measuring the window insert so that the window insert which he ordered did not fit. This necessitated ordering a new window and caused a one month delay in finishing the project.
