"It is very unfortunate that the 2 trees have died. When the customer sent photos of his tree concerns on 9/17(prior to them dying), the information was forwarded to Bachman's on 9/22 for an assessment to be made since this is where the trees were originally purchased. We received a verbal reply the week of 10/1 indicating that it could not be truly identified why the trees dies. The soil area surrounding the trees appeared to be very hard without moisture evident on the photos. The trees may have required some insecticide spray to be applied due to the spider web growing, but this can occur on any tree in any location, particularly in dry conditions. Overall, this summer season of drought made it extremely difficult for new plants, shrubs and trees to establish themselves and then to grow. Because of the long term excessive heat we experienced, even existing plants, trees and shrubs were stressed may have died depending upon the care and consistency of the homeowner. And even when great care and watering have been provided, sometimes there can be a weak plant/tree or it may not do well just because of the soil conditions or acidity. Sometimes a tree will die even after it's been established for several years and no evident reason can be identified. In this case we are recommending to the customer that we replace the trees in the Spring because currently the ground is so hard from the drought conditions that even watering from now until the ground freezes may not be sufficient for the successful results that we all want."
I think we left too much to the planner and didn't give him enough input. The prices were so high, that we decided not to even negotiate with them.
"The proposal information that was created based upon the requests of both homeowners did have 8 different application areas proposed in an ala carte fashion with a price identified for each area. The quotes are provided based upon actual discussion requests at the time of the estimate appointment. Our proposals are created in this manner in order for options to be considered and priorities to be identified for installation. There is no requirement from our perspective that all areas need to be completed. The on site review of the proposal and the design encompasses all areas that were discussed, but is created to provide a visual representation of what the proposal identifies. This design review is also the mechanism by which the discussion occurs that further refines what is wanted and promotes the changes/alterations to be made. In some instances the homeowner may want to think about the design review information and have discussion privately and then provide feedback or changes at a later date. We did not receive any form of communication responding to our design, proposal, or follow up, so we had no way of knowing what the perception was or if alterations/changes were desired to reduce the possible scope of work. It's not a matter of negotiating a price, it's a refinement process that requires identification of a budget and then identifying what work is considered to be a priority and determining how it fits into the budget to achieve what is desired."
- Angie's List high marks
- Professionalism in first interview
- Presentation and explanation of the quote
- Accommodating schedule wise
When we got the estimate, we were shocked. The first 4 estimates came in around the same number. L&R's was a good 40% higher. I'm sure they do great work, just not for that price. Had their bid been competitive, we may have considered them.
"The owner met with this client to review the site and discuss the request for a paver driveway and patio proposal for their home. A detailed proposal was provided for the customer to review that outlined all the necessary activity that would be required in order to install what was requested. We have no way of knowing what companies we are be compared to or what level of detail or scope of work was actually being bid by the other companies. In our experience we have found that many proposals do not include the entire scope of work that has been proposed by us and that certain crucial elements are lacking or not documented, but are assumed, which doesn't mean that those aspects are actually included in the proposal. And unless we have an opportunity to review the other "comparables" we cannot validate the accuracy of that information indicating that the scope of work is the same. We approach every estimate giving creative thoughtful consideration how the installation can be performed in the most economical and yet comprehensive manner to achieve the final expected outcome of complete installation integrity that we can stand behind and warranty and refer other potential customers to for validation of the work performed. The scope of work and level of detail are primary drivers of the cost of work to be performed. And obviously we want to supply those items so that customers will feel confident and about our company and the work to be completed. Our previous customers and references have validated to us that we are a very good value for the detailed installations performed."
"I have verified that we did not perform any work for this customer. We do not actually perform lawn cleanup services. This was an incorrect posting to our company. Thank you. Layla"
"We appreciate the customer's positive comments about our company and the work completed at her home in 2009 for approx $8800. In 2010 she contacted us to obtain a quote on 2 phases of work that she was considering. The 1st phase, a front of home berm installation for $4000, the 2nd phase of work was a complete front of home restoration for $7900, which included 85 linear ft of bullet edging, 69 assorted plants/trees, and 10 tons of rock. To complete these 2 applications a crew will work at least 4-5 10 hour days and all the materials require purchase to complete the project. Our pricing is consistent and has not increased in the last 3 years, because we are and wish to continue to be a good value for our customers while providing quality creative installations."
