Kim McLean & Team - Alerus Mortgage

Very happy with the services provided by Alerus which we used to refinance our vacation property in WI. Kim and staff were very easy to work with, very professional, responsive and their rates were the most competitive that we could find. Together we worked through some frustrations with getting timely service from the appraisal company but we ultimately closed on time and had probably the best mortgage/refi experience we have ever had. We would definitely recommend Alerus for the quality, customer focused service they provide.

Went smooth like butter....

About a month ago we refinanced with Alerus. It went extremely smoothly. Appointment (phone) times were kept to the minute. All questions were answered in a matter of hours- when they came up at all, including weekends. I say this because useful, timely information was constantly provided. I felt that they really knew what they were doing, and they were both friendly and efficient about doing it. The cost of the appraisal was the lowest I was quoted. At the end of the process they made a donation to a charity of our choice. At that time they also solicited feedback for what they could have done better- something I rarely come across in a business environment, but something i appreciate as a teacher. I had no response for them, as I was completey satisfied. At closing the woman assisting us said that she loved working with Alerus because they always had everything to her well in advance of the closing. The latest extra (Angie's discount, donation to charity) arrived a few days ago. It is a binder which contains, in a colorful, well-organized format, all documents relating to the mortgage. I have never received anything remotely similar in the past. It even includes a full amortization schedule. Yet another example of going the extra step. I didn't know I wanted it, but am very happy that they assembled and sent it to me, and did so long after receiving anything from me. I cannot recall being more satisfied, or impressed, with any business service. I would heartily recommend this team. In my experience they are doing it about as well as it can be done.

This was by far the best mortgage experience I have ever had and I have closed or re-financed more than 10 properties in the last 20 years. They are smart, effiecient, thorough and provide exceptional service. I highly recommend.

No need to shop around for another mortgage company! Alerus is the perfect choice. All the other reviews on Angies List reflect this...and we found it to be true. They really are that good. The mortgage rate and fees were very competitive. They are extremely responsive and friendly. There is great coordination within their office on handling various aspects of the process. They didn't drop the ball. They were quick, efficient and accurate in their work. We've done many re-fi's over the years and this is the smoothest and fastest it's ever gone...and most enjoyable to boot. We did all of our work with Alerus over the phone and internet...easy as can be. You waste no time...there's no hassle...they do a great job and you enjoy working with them. A+++ in our estimation! I chose Alerus from Angies List after being strung along for four months by a popular national lender and then finally turned down because of a technicality. I explained the situation to Sunny and was assured that that particular technicality would be no problem at all. True to her word, everything went smoothly and we closed in just for weeks. The entire staff was prompt, polite, and professional. I would certainly do business with them again.

I was really worried about getting the money I needed for a mortgage. Kim was the first person I spoke with and she carried me the rest of the way through till the very end. She was amazing!!! She was kind and reassuring all while being extremely professional and getting the job done quickly and correctly. This is an amazing company with talented individuals that know what they are doing. I had no stress in the house buying process thanks to Alerus. I really can not thank them enough. I truly felt lucky for finding them through Angies list.

We had an excellent experience with Alerus Financial. Originally we tried to refinance with our bank but they could not get it to work out. Kim and Nancy were great to work with and did a wonderful job with our refinance. They even made a donation to a charity they let us choose. I would highly recomend Alerus.

Sunny and her team did the impossible! Our first lender told us it would take 45 days to obtain loan and close on a new home. The Alerus team was much, much, much faster and they were incredibly proactive, professional and friendly.

I was trying to refinance my condo, and thought I should get at least 2 estimates in addition to the current carrier. I found Alerus on Angie's list. These women are knowledgeable, prompt and very helpful. While their company was unable to assist me due to changes in real estate value, caps, etc. they offered all kinds of questions to ask and other helpful advice on how to choose a company that would give me the best deal. I was sorry they could not take the refinance because I would have gone with them in a heart beat. They are truly a company deserving of an "A" rating.

Very disappointed in the lack of response and follow through. Can't imagine how this company was so highly rated if others have had anything close to my experience. Perhaps my experience was unique but....it was my experience. 1/21/13 Update: As it turns out, there appears to have been one of those "technology glitches" that so often leads to a misunderstanding. Apparently the owner of this business thought she had replied to my emails, but I never received them. Remarkably, she followed up with me by mail and included documentation to explain to me that she had attempted to respond to my emails. If Angies List technology would allow it I would change my Overall rating to N/A. Alas, I cannot. Consequently, I can only say that Sunny's follow up to my posting was extraordinary and appreciated.

It was fantastic. Everyone was so responsive and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.

What an awesome group at Alerus Mortgage. The entire team provides service that is beyond exceptional. I work in finance but this was my first time going through a refinance and I had limited knowledge regarding the mortgage/refinance process. I was also nervous because of stories I had heard regarding how difficult the mortgage/refinance process can be. I had the absolute opposite experience with Alerus. I learned a lot during this refinance process and they walked me through every step. This process wasn't difficult at all and it was actually kind of fun. This is a top notch group and I highly recommend them. Actually, this is the only group I recommend. Thank you Sunny, Kim, Nancy and Brigitte (hopefully I'm remembering all of you). Sunny Nelson and her team (Kim, Bridgett and Nancy) provided excellent service every step of the way! They were wonderful to work with, very prompt and everything flowed like clockwork - never a hitch or a wasted step. When I checked their references of recent clients I was impressed by how enthusiastic the references were in their recommendation of Sunny's team. Now I know why. After dealing with a major bank chain for over 3 months and getting absolutely nowhere (submitted forms, waited...submitted more docs, waited some more...) I decided to check Angie's List and I am SO glad I did. I worked with Kim McLean who was fantastic and the process could not have been handled better. Within about a month of the ap being completed we were looking at closing! I read the other positive reviews on Angie's List about Alerus Mortgage, and decided to use them to refinance the primary mortgage on our home. I filled out a mortgage application on Alerus' website. After that, I was contacted by Kim McLean, Loan Officer, and she asked me questions about the different loan types and payoff times I was interested in. Then, she sent me quotes for mortgages with payoff times of 30, 20, 15, & 10 years. We exchanged various phone calls and e-mails, and Kim basically walked us through the process and let us know what we had to provide for documentation and by what dates. We decided to go with the 15 year mortgage, and locked in a low rate. What really impressed me was that after we had already locked in a low rate, the mortgage rates dropped a little more, and Alerus re-locked us in at an even lower rate. Alerus also recommended an appraiser, and setup a closing appointment for us with a local title service; we had no issues with either one. Overall I was very pleased with the knowledgeable and professional service I received from Alerus on our mortgage refinancing.

Jan Fitzer of Alerus was amazing to work with on my refinance. I felt like I was her most important customer. If I ask an email question the answer was back so fast I was still at the computer when it arrived. In addition to great service, the interest rate I received was lower than other legitimate brokers and was lower than initially quoted. Also, the origination fee for this loan was waived. I was very happy with the terms of this refinance. The application form and other forms were pre-filled out so my job was pretty easy. Everything was handled by Email in a really efficient manner. The appraisal and closing went off exactly as planned. There were no surprises. The process took about a month. I had previously refinanced with a major bank. It took months, the rate lock expired, there were repeated calls for more data, and data updates and no return responses to questions. After that experience I was leery of refinancing even at these lower rates. I am glad I did. Jan has restored my faith in the financial industry. I would recommend Jan and Alerus to anyone.

Sunny was fantastic, it was the smoothest application for a mortgage I have ever had. She is professional, very responsive and thinks of your questions before you even ask them. I will recommend her to time and again. Update - I closed on my home in December and the process was literally effortless. Sunny and her team made it the easiest closing I've ever had. She also recommended my realtor who did a fantastic job as well. I had a pretty terrible experience with my last mortgage company and was a little concerned about going through the process again. Sunny was amazing and I was at ease through the whole process. Her team never skipped a beat in terms of communicating exactly what was going on with me as well as with each other so I never felt like "one among many" I felt like their only customer!

Sunny and her team were exceptionally easy to deal with. The transaction was conducted entirely over email with a few phone calls. Getting the information together for a refinance is always a pain, but Sunny gave us a list of everything we'd need. I would recommend her services highly and would go to her again...not that I'm ever going to get a better rate than the one she got me!

I found Alerus through Angie's List...and the 'List' has yet to fail me! Even thought we had refinanced back in 2009, with rates as low as they currently are, I had first inquired with Sunny to see if it made sense for us to even look into refinancing again. After we ran some preliminary numbers she came back to me with a great low rate and it was a no-brainer. As mentioned in other reviews, Sunny and her staff were very responsive and except for the closing, we completed the process all via e-mail and the phone. Everything was so efficient! Sunny even surprised us at the title office when she stopped by just to say hello and meet us in person. When it comes to customer service and attention to a client's needs things like this go a long way in my book! Due to individual circumstances, the complexity of a refinance or mortgage is going to be different. Regardless, Sunny and the entire Alerus staff certainly helped make our experience flawless! Thanks! As for how much we spent, the closing costs will very from situation to situation so we put $1.

Sunny and her team were incredibly responsive and great to work with. My realtor said he's never worked with a more responsive broker--they were always very quick to answer questions and turn around approval letters, etc. The additional guarantees on the approval being good (to assure the seller) and that the closing costs would not overrun were also great assurances for me. I would highly recommend RMG to anyone.

Fantastic experience, I was expecting it to be much more work. We pretty much did everything via email and phone, except for the closing.
