Doug and Tim are the nicest people you would ever meet. They spent significant time with me explaining how my wood stove worked and provided me with the supplies I needed. Customer service is way past an A+++. I would recommend Woodland Stoves and Fireplaces as a first choice.

We had a very good experience working with Woodland. Everyone was helpful, friendly and professional. They worked with us to determine the best unit to convert our existing, wood-burning fireplace to gas. Because of the dimensions of the existing opening, we opted for a large insert. We also upgraded the front panel and had the surround custom cut to follow the curve of the existing opening. Although those choices added cost, I am glad we did it. I am happy with the look and operation of the new, gas fireplace.

Can't say enough good things about them. Although it took a while for our stove to arrive, the installation went off seamlessly. As the installers told me upfront, they only had one chance to drill a hole at the correction height and location through our 1903 foursquare's plaster walls and chimney wall to connect it to the new flue liner. They took their time carefully measuring and locating the flue, then bore the hole. They nailed it. The stove and pipe are both perfectly level and plumb has drawn all kinds of admiring remarks. The stove works like a dream with an updraft like I've never seen. The installers cleaned up afterwards and came back right away to fix a small problem with one of the door gaskets.

From the moment we stepped in the shop and the amount of information that they provided for us, the entire experience was excellent. They chose the right stove size for our porch and set us up with an excellent contractor for the stone base. We were very impressed and we love our wood stove! As a follow up - a few years later, we called because our glass door cracked and they were very helpful in suggesting a much less expensive replacement using a local glass company instead of buying the aftermarket part. Wonderful!

I purchased a freestanding gas fireplace with a porcelain finish
from Woodland Stoves. The service in the showroom was very good. The sales
staff was knowledgeable and I purchased from them with confidence. I checked
Angie’s list before the purchase.
When picking up the fireplace at the store, I noticed the
box had damage on the side, towards the bottom in the form of a hole, several
inches across (possibly from a fork-lift).
(This was not the first unit that apparently had damage; another one
that I did not see was rejected by the store, causing a delay in receipt of the
unit I received). One employee suggested
we open the box and inspect it. Another said there was no need as he had
inspected it, pointing out that the box had been re-taped at the top by him.
We secured the fireplace in my car and I took it home. The
transport occurred without incident.
Upon carefully opening the box I found there was a large
chip out of the top of the fireplace. The damage was not located where the box
was damaged. The fireplace appeared to have been well packed and there were no
signs of damage to the box near the damaged top. Other than the top of the box
having been re-taped, there was no other evidence of the fireplace having been
unpacked previously.
I reported the damage to the store, requesting a replacement
top only, as the rest of the unit was OK. The email response I received made
the claim that I must have damaged the fireplace and said they cannot warranty
chips once the unit leaves their store. The store has nothing in writing about
such a warranty limitation and nothing was said to me when I picked up the fireplace. The store policy was only stated after my
reporting the damage.
I subsequently visited the store to show them the damaged
component and to speak with the store owner.
The employee who inspected the unit was also there. When I showed them
the damaged piece, the employee admitted that he had not inspected the entire fireplace,
only the place where the box was damaged by opening the top of the box and looking,
without unboxing the fireplace or unwrapping the top for inspection. Immediately the store owner then insisted he
had personally opened the box and inspected the entire fireplace top-to-bottom.
This would have required that the fireplace be unpacked completely from the
original manufacturer’s box.
The store owner offered the following options: 1) to refund
the entire purchase price, 2) to pay half of the cost of replacement of the fireplace
top, and 3) to touch up the damaged piece.
None of these options is acceptable to me. The unit was purchased with a special
discount coupon obtained through an auction and during a once-a-year sale from
the manufacturer; a full refund would require me to pay a much higher price for
the fireplace from another store. Payment of half of the cost to replace the
damaged fireplace top is not acceptable as the unit was damaged upon
receipt. Repair of the component is not
acceptable and would not have a favorable result given the highly visible
location and extent of the damage on the top of the unit.

The work went very well. The insert and chimney pipe was installed in approximately 6 hours from the time the workers arrived until the job was complete. They were punctual and professional*. The only complaint on the job was the electricians that ran the power to the fire box did not clean up completely**(see below) after there work was complete but this was a minor point in the overall installation process.
I highly recommend Woodland Stoves and Fireplaces.
The main reason we installed the insert was the tile liner in our chimney was badly damaged. In order to have a fire our options were to replace the Chimney, re-line the chimney or install an insert. We chose the insert because it was less expensive than re-lining the chimney and included a very energy effecient wood burning insert.
This is the second winter with the insert. The insert works great, the furnace does not run when when we have a fire, saving money and the wood fire does not it does not over heat the house. The insert is located in a room 15' x 24'.
Besides the benefit of effecient heat the cracked tile in the old chimney lead to a very strong smokey smell on humid days in the spring, summer, fall. That smell is gone! When the insert is installed the chimney is 'sealed' off from the living area with insulation so eliminating the flow of air through the chimney into the house.
Woodland Stove did a good job of recommending the best inserts for our home. They ask detailed questions about the room it will be in, the size of the house, and why we wanted an insert. They ended up recomending a selection of gas and wood burning inserts. We chose the VC Montpelier because if fit was the best fit for our home and we wanted to burn wood.
They have been very supportive of the product through both email and phone calls when there were questions.
Again, I highly recommend Woodland Stoves and Fireplaces.
*Woodland uses their own own National Fireplace Institute certified employees for installing the insert/stove and chimney pipe. They also have a master gas fitter if installing a gas insert.
**Overall Installation - Our house is over 100 years old and the electricians had to drill through close to 2' of brick and mortar to reach the firebox. I think it took a little longer than expected. This was a very good thing because the first company we talked to about an insert said the wiring for a wood insert could not be in the firebox, i.e. they would run a wire from the insert to a wall plug. This would have been less expensive but would have looked very tacky so overall very happy with the installation.
==and gt;and gt;Woodland is very familiar with all the codes and worked with us to make sure we were happy with the installation.

We were very close to purchasing the two fireplaces from Fireside when a friend told us about Woodland. Yes, Fireside would have cost about $3000 less, but the fireplaces available at Woodland are such higher quality in every way. Much more realistic, obviously more durable looking and higher heat output. We also were very happy with the sales help. They do not work on commission so there is no pressure and all the salespeople were knowledgable about the products. We did install ourselves but Woodland was available to answer all our questions along the way. HIGHLY recommended.

They were excellent. They were very professional and very personable. They got the custom approach, so they are not the cookie cutter chain type of outfit.

Woodland did a great job installing our insert. Very professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff both in the store and on site. Our house was built in the 1870's and they made the insert look like it has always been there. We have used it a ton over Thanksgiving and Christmas and just love it.

We went in to the store with a sense of what we wanted but didn't know the details about how to pick a stove and how to set it up. The staff went out of their way to understand what we wanted to do, and they helped us evaluate which stove would serve us well. We purchased the stove, pipe, chimney and fittings from Woodland, according to their instructions and everything worked out as planned. That's great because where we installed the stove was 300 miles away, a long drive to pick up any missing parts.

The project went really well. Mike was a great help in picking out a nice looking insert. First we were looking at a stove, but then changed our minds. They didn't complain at all. They did some drawings of what it would look like. We ended up changing the side panel design a few times and they had no problem with that either. This is our second fireplace we've had Woodland install.

Michael was great with helping us pick the right wood stove and has been extremely helpful before and after the installation. He has been a incredible wealth of information on everything related to wood stoves. John and John were also great with the installation. Everyone has been very professional and and great to work with. Woodland is just about the only shop in town certified by the National Fireplace Institute as a wood burning specialist!!

We wanted to upgrade the working wood fireplace that we seldom used, with a gas insert for purposes of room heating as well as ambiance. The guys at Woodland patiently explained the options based on the size of the fireplace opening, as well as the room dimensions.
We have a craftsman style home, so wanted more than just plain glass front -- the fireplace is a focal point of the room. Woodland showed us many options and gave us their frank opinions, but did not direct us toward high price/high margin units that were out of our range. We debated about features and benefits with Woodland for a couple months, and waited long enough that the manufacturer of our prefered unit came out with a new line that made our decision even more complicated. Again the Woodland guys patiently wrote up estimates for all our scenarios. In the end we went with our first choice since that unit offered the best options to match our decor.
After selecting the unit and signing the contract, the schedule was determined. Late summer/early fall is the start of their busy season, but we got a date for install only a couple weeks out. The install was completed in a day (actually five hours), including the work of the electrical subcontractors who extended a circuit to the fireplace. No complications arose, which I think is a tribute to the level of experience this company has with older homes. The install team did a great job minimizing the dust and mess.
We got the city gas inspection done in a few days, and a day later Woodland visited again for the final install, set up and instructions. All went well and the unit is performing and looks as good as we had hoped.
