Ungerman construction

Arrived quickly after call to insurance. Late at night. Arrived with no business card at 1030pm. Lied about water behind fridge to adjuster. No one showed up to over see project. Ripped much out of house and ruined wood trim and cabinets and doors in process. Managers Got frustrated with me in the office when i didn't want to use them to repair the expensive damage. Couldn't trust them.

Very well, they have done work for us in the past. Punctual, trust worthy, quality people.

This was a major restoration of the kitchen, adjoining laundry room  and powder room and lower level bedroom. Total restoration took over 3 weeks but Ungerman was OUTSTANDING in every respect.  Staff could not have been more helpful and cooperative.. The quality and workmanship of a large number of  suppliers by Ungerman was done extremely well.  All deadline were met.
Ungerman made a devastating situation have a very satisfying outcome.

Water heater broke and flooded our basement in early January. Ungerman was on site almost immediately with all the equipment to dry and prevent further damage to the house. After the basement was dried out, they replaced drywall, painted, trimmed and put in new carpet with great communication every step of the way. Each crew was very punctual, friendly and did excellent work. Very pleased with the results, basement looks new again. Best part was no stress due to the great communication from Ungerman.

So far everything has gone well.

The fire took place in August 2009, and they lied to me about the need for an as-built building plan, saying that there was a delay from the city, so it was four months before they even started. They compete removed my roof and truss system right before the prediction of a major snowstorm, and then they ordered the wrong trusses for the skylights that I had previously. They then lied to me about the ability to have the right skylights and a permeant roof was not applied until early March. Meanwhile, it rained in my house, it snowed in my house, and the areas of my house that were not affected by the fire were water and mold damaged. They forgot to winterize my house until I asked them about it on December 4th, 2009 in MINNESOTA, so many water pipes froze! They did more damage to my home than the fire did! I have been involved in a law suit with them since 2010.

My advice to Angie's List members is to stay far away from fire and water specialists as they are like lawyers who chase ambulances. You need a good contractor, not a water and fire specialist.

This project was supposed to be an 8-9 month job but it has turned into a 3+ year ordeal.

I was very impressed by the quality of their work, they are prompt, and are real responsive.

Paul Eckberg, our contact at Ungerman, was very conscientious about keeping us informed of the work to be performed. His roofing and interior painting/plastering sub-contractors seemed to know what they were doing and did the work very quickly and very well, so far as we know. The only unfortunate aspect of this job was Ungerman's suggestion for an exterior painter to repaint areas of siding that had been replaced and one exterior wall that had water damage. Although the exterior painter did an acceptable job of painting, he was very undependable and rarely showed up when he said he would. We have yet to pay him as one of his crew shoved his fist through a window screen to save himself from falling off the ladder and we are waiting to receive the repaired screen before issuing payment. This is not Ungerman's fault as we contracted separately for the painting but we will definitely inform Ungerman of the painter's unreliability once we get our screen back and the painter has been paid.
