"This customer was very pleased with my work when I completed this project. About a month later he called and said he noticed some scratches and was wondering what could be done about them. I suggested that if the scratch went all the way down to the wood he could use some of the floor stain I had left him to touch it up. I made sure to tell him to wipe up excess stain immediately after applying it to be sure it doesn't dry on the floor. He called back to say that didn't work, [Member Information Removed] I came by to see what could be done. He pointed out a couple areas that were bothering him but I noticed light scratches on the entire floor (including the two rooms I had completely re-sanded and one i hadn't worked on at all). I asked to see his vacuum and it was clear to me this was the culprit. I felt bad that this had happened to a newly finished floor and I offered to do the buff and coat again for 1/2 price. He agreed and we scheduled the work for about a month later. In the meantime he brought in other contractors and called me to say someone else would fix his floor. One of these contractors called me to try and figure out what had happened. This contractor informed me that the client had since wiped stain on large areas of the floor which he allowed to dry and said it was my idea. I would never attempt to apply finish to a cured finish without buffing it first. I hadn't heard anything about finish not adhering to floor until after he had someone else buff and coat the floor again (this is something i would have fixed for free). I did suggest over text (after attempting to talk to him on the phone) that he hire the local NWFA (national wood flooring association) inspector and if it was determined that I did something wrong I'd pay for the inspection and do the suggested repair for free. I didn't receive a reply to this idea. I regret that he and I couldn't come to a mutual conclusion on this project. This was the second time I had worked for this customer, and after the first job went smoothly, I'm sorry that things went poorly this time."
The end result was nothing short of outstanding. The floors were sanded to look like new (70 year old house in St. Louis Park) and he made sure all and quot;nooks and cranniesand quot; were attended to in the same highly professional manner as the main floor areas. The finishing job was also truly outstanding, and we were very proud to show the home to prospective buyers and let the newly finished floors and quot;speak for themselves.and quot; It turned out that the house sold in ONE DAY, and I know Justin's great work on the floors was a big part of the appeal of the home.
I would recommend Justin to anyone considering hiring a contractor to sand and refinish your hardwood floors. I could not have been happier I chose him to do this work.
