Dave Weigman, owner and operator of Sprinklers By Design, came to my house and gave a presentation on his company. He talked a pretty good game, and seemed trustworthy. Unfortunately, this was not the case. They arrived on time to do the job the following week. When installing the sprinkler system, it was necessary to hook up the sprinkler system to my outdoor water faucet. Dave assured me that a licensed plumber would be on hand to do this work, as was required by city code. Turns out, Dave tried to do the work himself. He left a blowtorch running on my hose spigot to loosen it up. While this was running, he left it TOTALLY UNATTENDED to go to a hardware store to try to find the metal guard that should have been in place before the torch was even lit. Only because I was home, and smelled the smoke inside my house, did anyone know that the torch had started my redwood siding on fire. I called the fire department immediately, which showed up in force, along with the police. The firemen and women put the fire out only after removing a large section of siding on my house. Dave Weigman finally showed up about half an hour after the firemen, and tried to blow the whole thing off. He tried to convince me he was a volunteer fireman, as if that would have made a difference. I don't think a trained fireman would have done what he did. A fireman at the scene told me that if I were not home that day, the whole side of the house could have gone up in flames, as I have redwood siding. Anyway, after the crew was done installing the system, Dave yelled out to his crew that he wanted to get going to beat the traffic. He then gave me a fast overview of how the system worked, and left no instructions, or warranty information. I had to figure things out on my own by going directly to the manufacturer. I was leaving town the next day for a week, and Dave assured me the damage to my house would be repaired long before my return. I made the major mistake of paying him in full before he left that day. When I returned home in a week, the work was not done, and it was a major deal to try to get in contact with Dave. After leaving many messages, his office person leveled with me and told me Dave was avoiding my calls. This was something he was very good at. When the repair work was finally done a week later, they used a different material than what was there originally. I now have a 25 sq. ft. very noticeable patch on the siding of my house. (I'm now considering a civil lawsuit). Trying to get ahold of him after that was near impossible. After a while, nobody even answered the phone anymore. I am advising anybody I know who is considering a sprinkler system to stay away from Sprinklers By Design. Dave Weigman is not a person who I would trust again to work on my home. Anyone who leaves a customer's house in such jeapordy should not be in the business of working on other people's homes.
