That's kind of a mixed deal. They did fine but they were out of place. They sent somebody back out a few weeks later but they said that it's too cold to repair that. I talked to somebody a week ago. The initial part of the service was good except that it wasn't complete and they didn't follow up as what they said they were going to. That's a reasonable price and maybe I would recommend them. They were very thorough the first time they came out and they came back out the second time and they were prompt. That was the positive side but then by winter, they forgot about it. I probably won't do business with them. They showed up when they said they would and they were professional.
Description of Work: They came out for the roof but they missed part of the roof.

From the owner: Thank you for your review. In our system it shows a few attempts were made via phone, but your voice mail was full. We resorted to text that wasn't being accepted and later moved to email that was going through, but not being answered back. Communication was tough on this one and we did what we could. We wouldn?t recommend them. They first sent a salesman that told us the wrong info. We signed a contract, but when the workers came out, they said they couldn?t deliver on what the salesman promised. They?d also didn?t show up consistently --- we?d stay home and they wouldn?t show, or they would show up one day and not the next. I had also picked out a specific color for the door/window trim. When they put the siding, the workers left off the trim. The foreman said that the trim wasn?t in the contract ? and I specifically picked out a color that matched the siding. Snap forced me to pay more for the trim. We also had gutters put on. Snap spray painted the gutters in the grass, so we had spray painted grass. The subcontractors refused to put the gutters on because they looked so bad. We had Snap enclose our deck to a 3-season room. The salesman said that Snap did this type of thing, and the foreman said that Snap did not. We had to hire an architect ($400) to design the new room, and Snap hired someone else to do the work ? and my husband finished the inside. They had to put a roof on the room that they built, and they sent some guys out. However, not long after the guys came, the guys left. They were supposed to put a plastic over the roof but didn't, and it rained into our kitchen onto our cupboards. We had to keep hounding the company, who'd send the foreman out, who would then say that it was going to cost more money. They told us that they were going above and beyond for us, adding in all this extra stuff, in return for us promising that we'd write a positive review on Angie's List about them. Dealing with them absolutely ruined our summer. The workers also asked us to write a letter to the boss of the company because he was wondering why it was "costing the company money." They also didn't have a regular crew -- it seemed like they would grab workers off from a pool of workers. UPDATE: A lot of what the provider responded isn't true. First of all, it was the original salesman that gave us the quote for the job, and made promises that the manager later couldn't fulfil. We were taking out a home equity loan to pay for this project, and we even took out a bit extra. However, when Ron Hubler came out, we were told that they could not do the job for the price we agreed on, and it cost us most of our savings to get the job done. I did not have serious health issues, but did have surgery for a thyroid lump. And, my husband was NOT pleased with the way the job progressed, as they said. They NEVER contacted us once after they were paid in full, even though they left an ugly exhaust cap that should never have been left on the house. But, we were never asked about it. It doesn't exhaust anything and looks like an eyesore. Ron said he'd get us a new one, but the day we gave him the final check, he told us that he couldn't find one that size. Photo attached.

From the owner: The customer is right in being upset. The original project manager that got through our hiring process and fooled us all was fired midway on this job. His resume and references were fake. We have again modified our hiring process as a result. He originally bid the four season porch complete build to be 10k. We immediately took him off the job and apologized to the homeowners as he clearly did not know what he was doing. He did pass our tests on for component work and it is our fault we didn't test him on additions as he had supplied recommendations on past additions. Ron Hubler was later put on the job after we discovered this. He has managed many four season porch and addition projects for us. He let the homeowners know the process and got them in touch with an architect. He suggest to them that they use that person or someone else and pay for the plans themselves so that they could use it to get bids. They paid for their design that became their property. Ron put together an accurate bid off of this design and they accepted the bid. I like that Ron takes an honest stance on additions and has the homeowner pay for it up front so that they own the design and have the freedom to work from there in the way they choose. We are just here to win the business if we earn it. They were completely satisfied with Ron's bid and they choose us after the months lies they dealt with from our and their former project coordinator at our company. No one forced them to do a thing as far as payment on items. You write that we forced you to pay for trim that was not bid out on your contract. You have a copy of the contract and you can clearly see the upgraded trim options you wanted were not apart of this. At one point you were going to hire your own finish carpenter. As far as the different crews you speak of I have all time cards and receipts from your job. There was one general on the job the entire time. The issue with the gutters came up when we were behind in gutters and you needed them right away. We hired on firm to take care of that. They didn't come in the color you wanted and specified. That the original rep had told you that we have that color. That crew decided to paint them for you. Before you aware this had happened Ron was on site and told them immediately that wouldn't fly and made you aware of this. Ron immediately fired them and got the problem solved soon after. The issue is ours as this job started out to be a nightmare from the original field representative that was on it. It was why we suggested they buy the their own draft and design of the project in hopes they would find someone else to do the job. We have found over time that as soon as a company comes into question there is a small chance we can redeem that confidence. We feel for the homeowners for what happened in the beginning. In addition to that the lady of the house is having serious health issues and this added stress of the project didn't help that. When we talked to the husband he was very happy with our work. He wrote on the bill how it didn't start off the best, but after it was finished everything was great and loved every part of it. I am not sure what has happened since that time. I have made a phone call to see if there is something that we are missing and can help with to no avail. I don't see anything in regards to quality on here and didn't expect that as they told us they were extremely happy with it. We try to always be perfect and do our best. Not everything will be perfect, but we can guarantee that our response will be. If there is ever an issue our office receives calls 24 hours a day and we are more than happy to help those that took a chance on our company. We have a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee as we stand by our product. We can't control everything in construction no matter how hard we try, we can control our response and from what happened that day forward went well outside of the gutter issue that our quality control picked up on.

energy audit
 + -1 more
I originally purchased the home energy audit via the deal they had advertised on Angie?s list. Then a few days later after all the heavy rains we had I scheduled a time for someone to also come out and give an estimate for a new roof and replacing windows (that were all leaking, they were long past due for replacement). The combination of events must have really confused the schedulers because I was called on 3 separate occasions to schedule a time for the roof/window bids, but everyone seemed to have forgotten about the energy audit I had already paid for. After talking with the last scheduler they assured me that a representative will be coming out to complete the audit and that they would also be able to give the bids for the roof and windows at the same time. Well, that did not happen. The sales representative came out and had no idea he was also supposed to be doing a home energy audit, so he took out the infrared camera and used it on just one level of our 3 level home and called it good, then took a little bit of time to poke around our attic where he determined we low on insulation and wrote up a bid for that. All that inspecting took about 10-20 minutes, then he sat out in his truck for another 15 minutes or so, then came in to talk windows. I had to back him up to say ?what about the rest of the things that are supposed to be included in the audit?? I showed him the advertisement for what I purchased, and he had to apologize stating he did not have the equipment needed to complete the audit, and that he would have to come back. He left after being at our house for about 40 minutes, nowhere near the 3-4 hours the ad indicated it would take. A week later he came back with a blower to do the blower test, determined that not only was our attic short on insulation but that we had a lot of air transfer there as well. Nothing else was done. So we paid $89 for a sales rep to spend a total of 40 minutes doing testing which included using the infrared gun used on one of our 3 levels and a blower test to determine air leakage in the attic. There was no write up of findings completed. We did not have the infrared used in the problem areas I was concerned about (the bedrooms in the upper level, the lower level where we seem to have some drafts); he did no testing of appliances, there was no testing for gas or other leaks, and we did NOT receive the energy performance report with any recommendations for improving our efficiency. In addition to all that, he spent a lot of time on his second visit pushing a certain set of windows that they were having a sale on, and then didn?t bother to provide any kind of written estimate for either the windows or roof till after I called and complained more than a week later. When I inquired about the warranty he responded with an email saying he was busy at another job site but to go to the window manufacturer page for more information. NO talk about the workmanship being covered by any warranty. The final straw, we didn?t get an estimate on our roof even after the multiple calls and emails. I am done trying to get any sort of result from Snap Construction. I will not be using them again.

From the owner: First, we are sorry for your experience. When you first sent out the notes in our system it was to look at windows and a roof. I am sure you mentioned that you bought the coupon for the energy audit as well. Since Brian has taken this over he has been able to get these audits done much faster. He apologized that day for not having the blower door and set up another appointment to get out there and perform those tests. You asked for a roof quote on a side by side home in which the owner of the other property was not willing to purchase on their side. We told you that our company will not do half a roof as there becomes a liability where the old meets the new that we can't take on. Just our policy and we don't recommend doing this. You asked for a window quote and that was given to you on the spot. You asked for a few other quotes that I have in the file for windows that were also given to you. As far as Brian being pushy I will have a talk with him. Brian has a calm demeanor and it is hard for me to see this sort of distaste in his approach. I know he is passionate about the window line that we have in and loves the energy savings along with it. For the money it can't be beat and I am sure you will find that as you get more quotes. We understand your frustrations with your neighbor not wanting to replace their side of the roof and putting your home in jeopardy of damage down the road from the age deterioration of the roof and we apologize that we can't help you. If you are not satisfied with the energy audit we would gladly help you with a refund. All you need to do is let us know. We are here to help in anyway we can. If you want to bounce quotes off of us and use someone else that is fine. I would gladly help you in the process.

I did not use this contractor. I got 6 bids and this contractor initially came in 3 times higher than the other contractors. Snap reviewed the bid they had given me and found that the square footage had been figured wrong. They revised their bid to match others I had gotten. They did try hard to make it right. However, I did not use them as I had already accepted another bid.

From the owner: I am sorry to hear of your response to our initial bid. I just looked at the paperwork and I can't see how we could be 3 times higher than anyone else. If you look at material cost alone that is a 1/3 of the bid and you can easily do your research on that by stopping at any home depot or looking online at shingle costs. I also looked at the date given and it was just given this last Friday and you gave this review on Monday.

After writing the review -- in tact above but with ratings changed now -- I contacted Snap Construction again. I had a response in a couple of days and then Mike came out on a Sunday afternoon to look at my roof. They took care of a few issues right away and were in and out in no time. With all of the heavy rains, ice dams during the winter, and the typical spring repairs; they were seriously behind. Communication could have been better. All I needed was a call to keep me informed of what was happening. I will give them another chance.
Description of Work: The last date of contact is approximate. | |In April, this company was one of the deals. For $99 we should have gotten a roof inspection and maintenance package. We'd just had a leak the weekend before during intense storms. I emailed back and forth a few times with Randy. Randy stated it would be a while because they were really busy from the storms. But about a week or so later, Mike called. He called on a Thursday evening. I spoke to him for a while about the age of our roof and the fact that we'd just had a minor leak. He came out Tuesday afternoon as agreed and met with my husband. Both my husband and Mike looked at the inside ceiling together but NO ONE got on the roof. My husband called Mike back the same day to reschedule. Nothing back from Mike. A week or so later, I called Mike and left a message. He called me back and we again talked at length about the issues, that I'd bought a Roof Maintenance package and no one looked that the roof. He said that he'd come back out after the rain stopped. Rain stopped within a couple of days. Again, a couple of weeks pass and no word from Mike. So I've emailed Randy again through Angie's List and explained the issues. No response at all and it has been days. Now, I'm out $99 and NO ONE has looked at my roof and now I'm not getting and responses. | |I'm incredibly disappointed for my first time using a vendor selected from Angie's List. I now have no faith in this vendor and very little faith in Angie's List.

Eric also walked around the entire house and found a coupe other places where the vinyl siding needed to be put back into place. He also left me the extra caulk he didn't use. I would use Snap Construction in the future.

We had a large bay window (no brand name on the window) that would not close far enough to close the latch. I had tried a number of other windows companies to see if they had made the window, but they all claimed it was not their window and then went on to explain how crappy the windows were and I should certainly purchase new windows through them. I had also had a couple of handymen out to fix the issue but they all had no idea how to fix the window. On a whim a decided the give the Snap Constructions Big Deal a try. They sent someone out, but he wasn't sure how to fix the problem. Luckily the guy who came was able to send a "window" specialist that either worked for or was closely associated with Snap Construction. This second guy arrived a couple of days later (maybe a week I don't remember). He seemed to know everything there was to know about windows. He also said they were nice windows (company out of business, but still nice) and it would be silly to replace them. This second guy said the vinyl was warped and all I needed to do was heat it up with a heat gun or hair dryer and bang it back into shape. I imagine I could have called snap construction back out to heat the window and do the bending, but I was so excited to get the problem fixed I used my wifes hair dryer and fixed the window myself. Took about 10minutes. I did a little jig and showed the closing window to my wife. We were both very happy to have yet another home repair completed.

We had water leaking into our kitchen, so upon looking at good reviews for Snap Construction, I contacted the office to schedule a consult/estimate for roof work. I was told a representative would contact me that afternoon or next day. I did not receive a return phone call. 2 weeks later, water again was leaking into our kitchen after a heavy rainfall and I thought I would give them another call due to reviews were so good and maybe they just got very busy. I explained to the office staff that I had called in previously, did not get a call back, but that we were with water leaking into our kitchen. The women who answered the phone apologized and stated she would ensure someone would call me later in the day to look at our roof. To this day ( 1 week ago), I still have not heard back?. I am not sure where the breakdown in communication is?.

I was very satisfied. The only not as good part was that somehow they lost track of me and so there was a delay in getting it scheduled. I purchased the deal when there was still snow, so I sent in my contact info and they were going to contact me when the snow was clear. However, they never contacted me. But when I contacted them again they were apologetic and quick to get me on the schedule. The work was done promptly and well.

By 10:30, the estimator hadn't arrived at my house. I called the main office and was transferred directly to the estimator's cell phone. He answered promptly. I gave him my name and told him that I expected him at 10:00 for a roof estimate. He said, "10 this morning?" Me (admittedly with a bit of sarcasm): "Not 10 tonight!" He apologized profusely and said that he must not have written it down. He said he was doing another estimate in Lakeville (I live in South Minneapolis), he'd be done in about 25 minutes, and that he'd be at my house as soon as possible after completing the other estimate. Then, he called me around 11:15 to let me know that his GPS said he'd arrive at my house at 11:37. At 11:45, my phone range again. The estimator said he was "just kind of driving around" and couldn't find my house. I asked him if he was north or south of Highway 62, and he seemed confused. Then he said he had just crossed over Adair Avenue. He had gone to North Minneapolis instead of South Minneapolis. At that point (approaching noon, nearly two hours after his scheduled arrival) I told him that I had two other contractors coming, and not to come for the estimate. He apologized again, said that he's never missed an appointment, and didn't know what happened. Everyone makes mistakes (I do all the time!), but like anyone else, I don't appreciate having my time wasted. If you live in South Minneapolis and need a new roof, find a different contractor.
Description of Work: On May 13, I contacted Snap Construction via their website. I made it clear what I needed (old shingles torn off, new ones put on, possible gutter work). I received a prompt e-mail message from the office letting me know that a specific project manager/estimator would be contacting me shortly. That same afternoon, I received a message from the estimator asking me when a good time would be to come for an estimate. We agreed on today (Tuesday, May 20) at 10:00.

From the owner: I had a chance to talk with Dave on this. He admittedly dropped the ball on this. Telling you he felt terrible is an understatement. Dave takes his job very seriously. He is vet that has the utmost respect for people's time and this is his first mishap at our business. He has lived in Duluth up until this next year and relies on his navigation to get him places. As we all know that works 99% of the time and this last time it didn't. We have systems in place to update our staff to let them know they have an appointment coming up. It just didn't work this time. I apologize for your experience and what happened here. Your time is valuable and we are well aware of that. They did a really great job. They explained what they needed to do to the siding well. They had to cancel a few times due to the weather but they were consistent on keeping their word on rescheduling. There was one person here doing the work and it took about an hour to complete.
Description of Work: I purchased the big deal for $99 for Up to 2 Hours of Spring Exterior Home Maintenance. They fixed some pieces of siding that were damaged from storms.

I received a very thorough analysis of what should be done to update and improve our attic insullation and ventillation to reduce energy costs and ice dams. I did it because of a reduced price promotion -- otherwise I might not have, or I might not have chosen Snap. But their deal got my attention and I was able to look them up in the Angie's List system to see that they were highly rated. Iparticularly liked that they were also a local (Bloomington, MN) business. Now I am having them bid some other work as well.
Description of Work: Inspected all attic areas and recommended improvements in insullation and ventilation.

I purchased this on 5/1. I received correspondence the next day and basically haven't heard from them since. I was promised I would hear from them on 5/9 but I have yet to hear from them. I would like to look into how can get a refund and get someone else out to fix my roof.
Description of Work: Nothing yet? Haven't heard from them in 10 days even though I was supposed to on 5/9.
Eric called me to schedule the appointment. He noted that he had a few visits before mine, but would call if he was running ahead of schedule and could come earlier, which he did. He was prompt and professional. I especially appreciated Eric's honestly that the insulation project I assumed I needed would not solve the problem I had with ice dams and that an inexpensive roof rake would be a better solution given the architecture of my home. He explained in easy to understand terms the mechanics of the ice dams and how I can prevent them in the future, as well as performing the general maintenance in the package I had purchased. I would not hesitate to contact him in the future.
Description of Work: I purchased a $99 roof maintenance package and also asked to have an estimate on roof insulation because I had bad ice dams this winter.
