R F MOELLER JEWELER

Our watch appraisal that cost $125 from R. F. Moeller was a waste of money for us. 
We have a gold pocket watch for which we need a current value,  since we are considering selling it. We told the representatives (Mark and Patrick) at Moeller?s Edina office that we need to get the watch?s case opened, the movement verified or not verified as Tiffany, and a dollar value for selling it.  They couldn?t/wouldn?t open the back cover there and said they?d have to send it to their staff watchmaker at another location.  They would also have to do an appraisal to give us any value.  They recommended a website where we could possibly sell it.
The result:  For $125 Moeller gave us a ?nice? spiral-bound document with a letter, a page of disclaimers, an ?Insurance Appraisal? and the GIA Clarity Grading Scale (which  applies to diamonds, not watches).  There was no additional information than what we knew or had in old appraisals.  The document gave us no information about the watch?s movement, but in addition, the watchmaker (it appears) didn?t even open the cover to look at the movement.
The website they had suggested requires images of the case, dial, and movement of any watch to determine whether or not they?ll sell it for  you. The Insurance Appraisal included a printed image (not a digital image) of only the watch case.  When we requested
Moeller (Mark) to have the watchmaker open the movement cover and take digital images  of the case, dial and movement  for us, they refused, stating we didn?t need that to sell the watch, since it?s so beautiful.  They apparently didn?t know the requirements of their recommendation.
So now we are right back where we started, and this appraisal may be useless to us (we won't use it), and was a definite waste of money.  In our opinion, Moeller did not listen to us adequately and were happy to take our money but not fulfill  our needs.  We will never go to them for anything in the future.
