The experience of having Pat here went very well overall. She called to say she would be a bit late, which was no problem for me. Once here, she set to work. I found it very easy to have her in my home; she is quite pleasant, complimentary, and very professional. When I asked specific questions, she had answers which seemed to be accurate and were based on her years of knowledge. She easily tolerated the interruptions from my children and dog in the middle of our talking, which further set me at ease. Through no fault of hers or mine, the job took much longer than one hour, due to the odd shape of our first floor, yet she stuck with it in order to give me a final floor plan. What, for me, is--in hindsight---more important than anything, got pushed into a short amount of time, as--toward the end-- she worked with me on colors for our walls. The colors that were left with me to consider now don't appeal to me at all, and I need to begin again on considering colors. (Not sure how to do that.) I had also, in my phone call to the company owner, asked to have window treatments recommended. This aspect of Pat's visit was almost added at the end as an afterthought; I sensed that Pat didn't know she was expected to do this for me. The window treatment recommendations were done in a hurry. Despite that, I got some good ideas. I have yet to implement any of Pat's recommendations, but will begin doing so soon. I feel that I got my money's worth and more from this service, and would definitely call on Pappas Design again. It was just what I wanted and needed, despite the issues mentioned above.

The second floor of my house had been gutted. It was down to studs and rafters. I needed to get it finished, but first I needed a plan. The design project went very well. I was initially nervous about spending this kind of money. In the end I'm glad I did - the project turned out so well. I could never have done it myself. I interviewed 4 interior designers and selected Mary Jane Pappas. Over the course of several months I worked with Mary Jane, Heather, Angie and Pat - they all contributed their great ideas. They accommodated my request for lots of built-ins, and knew just what colors and materials to use. I was given a set of plans that I could present to contractors for bidding. Because the decisions about details had been made in advance during the design process, the construction project itself was almost stress-free.

Initially we were pleased with their work. However, when we later found problems, they were unprofessional and difficult to deal with. Therefore, I would not use them again.
Response from PAPPAS DESIGN
"Recently we discovered comments you posted on Angie’s list on March 14, 2007 regarding our company. We were surprised that you posted your comments 4 years after the remodeling project was complete and that you did not communicate with us directly about your disappointment. Because we take pride in our work and our professionalism, we reviewed project notes and communications to identify what problems may have disappointed you. We found the following: The cabinet installation was delayed by two weeks due to (1) the cabinet shop supervisor suffered a heart attack and (2) the general contractor did not have the space ready for cabinet installation as planned. Because we were the designers of your project and not the builders or installers, these circumstances were beyond our control. We did, however, fall short of our responsibility to inform you promptly when these circumstances developed. We did apologize at that time and followed through to the end of the project with timely communication. Our records show that our Senior Designer monitored the project to the end, did a final review, supervised the completion of the punch list, and that all the details were approved and finished to your satisfaction. Sometime after the project was complete, you asked us to look at the finish on the bathroom cabinetry. The Senior Designer and I responded immediately. We found surface dirt and a sticky substance on an area of the cabinet’s surface near the bathroom exhaust vent and determined that the problem was not finish failure but a cleaning/maintenance issue. We sincerely want to know why you were dissatisfied with our customer service and in what way we could have served you better. What can we do now? Sincerely, Mary Jane Pappas"
