Northeast Tree Inc. was founded in 1994 by George and Lynn Welles. It started as a small owner-operated full service tree service and remains that way today. All sales and work are supervised by a certified arborist. Northeast Tree Inc. specializes in technical removals and fine pruning. Use of rope and saddle techniques to access trees eliminates the need for heavy equipment on residential property. All work completed by Northeast Tree Inc. complies with ANSI Z.133 standards for safety, and ANSI A.300 standards for pruning. Our main focus is always safety, and we are constantly working to educate consumers on proper tree care and maintenance. 8 Employees, tree fertilizing & treatments. Cost is determined by the job. "Thank you Northeast Tree for removing our very, very large, and sick tree from our property in the alley. A's - All around! We chose you first and foremost for the knowledge you demonstrated in the industry. You were able to identify the specific trees we had and suggested specifically the best time to remove them, educating me on how this tree will specific spores it can release during removal. Immediately you knew we would need a crane for the safety of the garages in the alley, and just as important, your crew. It was such a relief that you were going to arrange the disconnect and reconnect of our power as well. It was a great surprise when one of the workman informed me that you had pulled a permit to block the alley! Your company was the most professional we had met with, and with such a large tree, you made us feel at ease in where we were going to put our trust and money. Everything was clear in the proposal and you took the time to find out which houses we would need to inform of us blocking the alley. It was great having one less thing to think about! Do not sign a contract with this company. I had a tree marked by the city for removal. I reviewed the list of approved contractors and Northeast Tree seemed close and no different than the rest of the companies I saw. I had never had to pay for tree removal before, so I didn’t know what to expect. I wish I had done more research. I contacted them through their website on June 11th, and within a few days George came out to review the tree. He looked at the tree and lot for about ten minutes and had what he needed. On July 1st, I was sent a contract for the work and signed it. I was told that they were very busy, and they would schedule the tree removal in August. It seemed like a long time to wait, but so far everyone had been friendly, so I went along with it. On July 9th someone from another company knocked on my door. They said they had another job in the neighborhood and they could remove my tree for half the price Northeast Tree had bid. Not only that, but it would be done that Saturday (two days away!). They had insurance and certification at the ready, so I said yes. I contacted George from Northeast Tree and respectfully asked to cancel our contract. The contract didn’t list any fees, only that their permission was required to cancel. I assumed that since they hadn’t even scheduled the work yet, this wouldn’t be a problem. I was very wrong. George’s tone changed immediately. He told me that there would be a substantial fee to cancel the contract. I asked him why the fee was so high. He said “The fee is based on a typical profit margin for a job of this size.” Not that it represented any time/effort/labor that had gone into the project - but the profit he expected to make from me. For doing nothing. For not even scheduling the work. I asked him why he wouldn’t just cancel and his response was “If there were a compelling reason to cancel there would be no charge. Your convenience does not seem a very compelling reason to release you from this contract.” I signed a contract, and I honored that contract. I sent in my payment today. My tree was taken down by the other company weeks ago and they did an amazing job. If I had stayed with Northeast Tree, I would still be waiting for them to schedule the work. I still saved well over $1,000 - even after paying their absurd fee and tipping the other contractor an extra $100 for being so amazing. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

They used to be great. We asked them to remove the tree 8-10 feet away from the home. They left 8-10 feet on top of the house. Away, top? Then they told me that they met the specs. I am not an engineering firm! Lost their invoice (look we are all humans), got scolded over the phone and blamed many attempts made. They told us that neighbor’s tree is about to split and need braces and another tree needed to be removed as it was dying. Our Edina city expert told us there is nothing wrong with both trees.

I worked with Melis [Member Name Removed] on scheduling and there 8 emails to and from Melis plus a phone call during the scheduling process. The invoice was sent on August 22nd to Melis, as that had been the party we were corresponding with. No payment or response was received. A follow up email was sent 10/23 to Melis stating the invoice had not been paid and asking if there were any issues delaying payment. No response was received from this email. The account was 60 days past due so we called to inquire. [Member Name Removed] followed up stating they did not think the work was done to specification. [Member Name Removed], the CA that provided the proposal went to the site within a few days of this phone call and reviewed the work and it was done as per the signed proposal for work. I am sorry the language used to describe the project was difficult to understand but it is the same industry standard language we have used for the past several years. We do always strive to improve our communication so we will review our standard specifications and improve them as we are able. We have received your check for payment. We do not like leaving our clients unsatisfied and we would like to have an opportunity to have George meet with [Member Name Removed] on site to discuss the work or schedule a mediation meeting with the BBB, which we are a member in excellent standing. If you would be willing to meet with us please call the office to arrange, 612-789-9255. I will hold onto the check until 12/4 and if we do not hear back from you I will deposit the check and consider this matter closed. They did the job really well. I didn’t need to be at home for it. Cleaned up the mess completely. Beautiful to have the out of control shrub gone. They are very responsive, quick, with good communication in between. Very pleasant interactions. Price was what I expected. Offered Angie’s discount. We have used them before and will use them again!

The company responded quickly last fall to my request for a bid, and upon their recommendation, the front yard tree was taken down last fall, and the back yard tree this spring, when the semi-frozen ground would mitigate any yard or garden damage. The fall removal was pretty spectacular. The tree was removed in sections, each lifted up over the driveway via a very tall crane, to the street, where it was further sectioned and then hauled away. My driveway and yard configuration would not permit crane use for the other tree this spring, so the backyard tree was disassembled more conventionally, with saws and ropes, and then hauled to the front with a small fork lift-type vehicle. In both cases, the crew did a very good job of cleaning up the lawn, the driveway, and the street. I had a minor dispute with the company over the cost and specifics of the first stump removal, but that was quickly resolved via emails. I would hire this company to do tree work again.

Work was scheduled and the team held to it. Excessive rain prevented chipping out the stumps at the same time. The team returned when the weather permitted and finished the job. All was neat and on schedule. I have used Northeast Tree before, would use them again, and highly recommend them.

Northeast tree is unethical. I had them cut and trim 2 trees. They trimmed one of the trees wrong When I asked them to please do what I asked, which is cut the limbs down that are hanging over my neighbors property they would not. They said it was not in the contract, but they would do it for an additional fee. I called the office and told them they did not cut the branches that I wanted they refused to comply with my request unless I wanted to pay more money. It cost over $2,000 to have work performed that was not what I requested. As a senior living on a budget it was very disappointing to have this kind of response from a company.

"[Member Name Removed], We sent a very detailed proposal that described the work we were going to perform. You signed this proposal, without any change requests, and it worked as our contract. The specifications for the work were made with the concerns you expressed and the best management practices for the tree. I have spoken with both the crew leader that was on site and the sales person that assessed your trees and provided the recommendations for work (both of which are ISA Certified Arborists). It is clear that they both had extensive conversations with you about the work completed and the reasons why the work was done as it was. I am comfortable that the work was done to the specifications of the contract. The additional work you requested is not recommended for the overall health of your tree but both the crew leader and sales person agreed we would do as you requested but that it was outside the scope of the contract that was agreed upon. The additional work you requested would require a 2-3 person crew a half an hour plus the equipment to dispose of the additional debris. The sales person provided your with a reduced rate on this additional work, but we are not able to just add that on for free. We take ethics very seriously at this company, it is one of our core values and our attention to ethics is why we are highly rated on both Angie's List and the Better Business Bureau. Since our attempts to mediate this issue have not been to your satisfaction I would strongly encourage you to contact the Better Business Bureau so that we can bring this issue to a neutral party to review and help us all come to a satisfactory conclusion. I hired Northeast Tree to prune two trees. One was a general pruning to have some clearance from the house, and the other one was a more detailed pruning. The tree is above my deck and I was having issues with lots and lots of smaller branches falling from the tree. The last thing I had them do was remove a bunch of buckthorn growing along a chainlink fence (this was worth every cent I paid for it.) I appreciated that I didn't need to be present for the initial inspection. George walked me through all my questions and provided me with a good amount of details as to why certain things were being propoased. They communicated with me very well. We did have to reschedule once do to an equipment issue, but they let me know as soon as they could that they could not make it out. The work was completed quickly and professionally on the day we rescheduled to. Overall, I believe they did great work and I plan on using them in the future for tree pruninings. I also plan on using them to removed a couple dying trees as well as replacing said trees being removed.

I had a large Elm overhanging my house and neighbors house that needed to be trimmed back. They were quick to come out and provide a quote and made the process super easy by emailing the quote so I didn’t have to be there. I talked through the quote and received thoughtful explanation and suggestions regarding what was necessary and how other options would impact cost. They came out and delivered on what we agreed to. I’ll be using them again in the summer for other services.

There was some delay because it was following a storm and first priority was given to trees on building and as the limb was in my back yard and not going anywhere I didn't mind the wait. The limb was eventually removed.

Someone came out and gave me an estimate to tri a red maple in the front yard and a large silver maple in the back yard. He gave me some professional advice on the silver maple. I got one other estimate and that person stated that the silver maple was too difficult to trim due to age and decay. Lynn was very responsive on scheduling the work. They came when I expected them, did an excellent job on both trees and cleaned everything up. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

Couldn't have been more professional. George came out and then emailed a bid that I was happy with, and we scheduled a date to do the work. I happened to be out of town at the time, but when I returned, I saw that the crew did everything they said they would do--including cleaning up afterwards. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.

George was out within a day to give me a free estimate and consult on new trees and their placement. Chris and the crew were prompt, efficient and courteous. A follow up email was answered promptly. One of the trees I wanted has still to be planted because they didn't feel their grower had a quality tree available at this time. I appreciate that they didn't want to plant a lesser one just to get it done..
