Absolutely wonderful! Another shop less than 2 miles away, told us we needed a new muffler and other components - $740, AND they charged to look at our vehicle. Steve took a 30-second look at our car, immediately said all we needed was a new flange. $100 and 20 minutes and we were good as new!!

Mechanic explained that both muffler and resonator had holes, and quoted job two ways: with a standard muffler, or a stainless steel one. I opted for the stainless. Was in and out in about 90 minutes.

We called him at 9:30 on Saturday morning, already knowing what it needed. He said to bring it right over and he'd have it done by noon, which he did.

After being told by another shop that I needed a complete exhaust system for my older Mitsubishi SUV, and that some of the parts were no longer available in the US, I used Angie's list to locate a reputable shop in the west suburbs of the Twin Cities. Stopping by to see if in fact I did need a new exhaust system, Steve at Muffler Clinic and Brakes easily diagnosed the issue which was much less severe than I originally was led to believe. He was very honest, showing me the crack in the exhaust pipe, and gave me a proposal for only replacing the parts that were worn out. He easlity located the parts and I made and appointment. The work was completed on time, at the estimated price originally quoted. This shop is honest and reasonable. I highly recommend Steve and his team at Muffler Clinic and Brakes.

I watched them put my car on the lift and scratch their heads a little about how to fix the problem. They told me there was definitely a leak but they were worried that they would need to remove some extra parts to get to the problem. Their quote was for $275 and I decided to go for it even though it was more than I expected to spend. A few hours later they gave me a call and told me my car was done. Steve rang up the bill and said that will be $129. I was astounded that they were charging me less than their orignal quote and told him so. He just said that it was easier than they expected so he was simply charging me accordingly.
I was already adjusted to the higher cost in my mind and they could have charged me the full amount and I would have paid it for doing the work so quickly. So I am very pleased to give them a positive review and I am bringing my wife car over there this afternoon.
Thanks to Steve and the Muffler Clinic for your honesty. You have a customer for life.

Steve fit me in same day on a Saturday, without an appointment, and was able to get the part I needed within a matter of hours. I had my car back and running quietly in about 4 hours at a reasonable price. Thanks!

Response from Muffler Clinic & Brakes
"Something about this review doesn't sound right. We never recommend repairs that aren't required. I don't recall incident specifically, but I wish this customer had brought his concerns to me directly."

I went in because my muffler had rusted off and other exhaust pipes were hanging and rattling. I was expecting the worst. I brought it Monday morning and an hour later they called and said I only needed to replace the tailpipe ($185 installed). They could have told me anything because I thought it would be worse.

We noticed a loud grinding noise coming from the back of our 2003 Toyota Corolla and assumed it was the muffler. We brought it to Muffler Clinic and Brakes, because it's in our neighborhood and we'd heard good things. We spoke with Tim, who said we could get the inspection done the same day. We brought in a 10% off coupon from the shop's web site, which they honored.
After Tim test drove the car, he said he realized right away that the noise wasn't the muffler after all. It was actually a hub and bearing on the right back side of the car that needed to be replaced. He calculated that it would cost $356 to replace and said they could finish it by the end of the day (which was much appreciated, since I had a road trip I was leaving on the next morning.) We picked up the car about five hours later and the price was just as Tim quoted--$356.23 (which included the tax). I don't have any previous hub and bearing repairs to compare this one to, but it seems from basic online research that the price they charged us was within the standard range.
Our car now drives very smoothly and there's no grinding noise. We were quite happy with the service we received. They seem like an honest, hardworking and professional independently owned auto shop and they did the repair very promptly, considering we gave such short notice. We will definitely return for future auto repair needs.

Originally, I took my 2003 VW Passat to the dealer because the exhaust was getting noisy. The dealer informed me the flex pipes were failing and recommended replacing not only the flex pipes but the catalytic converters as well, at a price in excess of $3,300. I took the car to Muffler Clinic and Brakes for a second opinion, and they recommended taking out and replacing the flex pipes, but leaving the catalytic converters in place unless they were failing. I accepted the recommendation, and the car is now fine. I can't say that I "saved" the cost of the catalytic converters because they will need to be replaced at some point, but deferring over $2,500 in repair expenses was a welcome alternative. I appreciate the thoughtful attention.

cI found Muffler Clinic and Brakes searching on Angie's List. They had the most reviews and all were as positive as mine. Most places require appointments, but when I asked Mr. Larson about scheduling, he said bringing it by wouldn't be a problem. I drove about 20 miles across the city to get there. I arrived about 2:15pm and was checked out, and repaired for a very fair price by 3:30pm That's pretty good. Mine wasn't complicated, my muffler was 14 years old and just worn out, split down the seam. Mr. Larson cut the old one out with a sawzall and a torch. I watched the parts guy deliver my new muffler while I waited. All in all, it is a service garage like the one's before every Midas, Goodyear, and franchise opened them. I would go back, and have additional work scheduled at the end of the month.

It went really well. They welded my muffler instead of replacing it, which saved me a lot of money. They were quick and efficient in their work. I would recommend them to anyone.

This was a great experience all around! I called on Thursday to see if we could have our car fixed on Saturday. He (I'm assuming the owner) was able to get us in. We dropped the car off on Friday night, he checked it over by 10 on Saturday a.m. and gave us an estimated repair cost, and it was fixed by 12:30. He even stayed a few minutes after their 1 p.m. closing time, so that we could get out to St. Louis Park and pick our car up! Once we got there, he took the time to show me the piece he had taken off the car, why it was making the noise it had been making, and explained what he had done to repair it. He noted that it didn't make sense to replace more than the one piece that was problematic. I have a sneaking suspicion that a chain place would have urged me to repair much more than was needed. We'd definitely go back to Mufflers and Brakes!

Came in first thing on a Saturday morning.. Loud exhaust sounds, figured it was my catalytic converter. Actually was the muffler.. He didn't try and sell us an entire exhaust system. Informed us it is a bit rough but should be fine.. New muffler on in 45 minutes, out the door. Didn't feel the nonsense I've received at corporate-owned places.
