I brought in a pair of Weller lamps I'd had forever - I never used them because I couldn't figure out how a lampshade was supposed to fit on there - there were no fittings when I bought them.  The woman who helped me (sorry, I can't remember her name) showed me exactly what I needed and how it all fit together.  Especially useful was her knowledge of what would be historically accurate and what kind of shades would have been used.  I bought the parts and shades and put them together at home.  It was a great success and I've had nice compliments on them.  I am very, very happy.

The fellow behind the counter showed me how to remove the socket, he took the lamp apart (which turned out to be difficult), and he showed me how to finish up the repair on my own.  He told me the replacement part I had with me was sufficient, and he did not even hint at buying any of his parts.  He did not charge me for his time

I brought a high end reading lamp in for repair.  Instead of having me leave the lamp, the man who helped me tested the bulb (which we were pretty sure was new), checked a few other things (the socket), and suggested that I could either buy the one other part that was most likely causing the failure to work and fix it ourselves or I could leave the lamp for them to replace the part.  He was clear that if the replacement part didn't solve the problem, I had two weeks to return it.  He was very up front that if I left the lamp, it could be at least a month before they got to it and that all they would do (for $60/hour) would be the same thing he was showing me  how to do.  I really appreciated the time he took and the suggestion he made.  While I was in the store, I observed other customers.  All were greeted warmly, most were called by name, return parts were handled cheerfully. Overall, a nice place to do business.

They do really good work at a very reasonable price.

I debated whether or not to attempt repair, as I could have purchased a new lamp for about the same amount as the labor alone. However, my ailing lamp was much more expensive and I liked the design, so I decided to go for repair. My lamp works beautifully now, in fact it works better than before: when new, use of the dimmer caused an irritating hum; now the hum is gone. (Original retailer said "they all do this.") Thanks, Mohn.

THE WORKER WHO HELPED ME KNEW EXACTLY WHAT PARTS I NEEDED. I SUPPOSE THEY COULD HAVE CHARGED ME A HEFTY SERVICE CHARGE TO FIX IT, BUT IT WAS A SIMPLE REPLACEMENT AND THEY SHOWED ME EXACTLY HOW TO DO IT MYSELF--THUS SAVING ME A LOT OF MONEY. EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ONLY COST A FEW DOLLARS THEY TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE SURE I HAD EVERYTHING I NEEDED. I LOVE PLACES LIKE THIS THAT STOCK ESOTERIC PARTS FOR THE OLD THINGS IN MY HOUSE, AND CAN HELP ME MAKE THE REPAIRS MYSELF!
