I bought an Angie's list deal with these guys because we wanted to get our walnut tree trimmed up in our backyard. I don't think it had ever been shaped and, as a result, there was a limb that hung over our garage and touched the ground on the other side when the tree was heavy with walnuts. Before I bought the deal I called and asked how quickly they thought they might be able to do the work since our kids were starting to use the tree like a swing. The guy I talked to on a Monday said one or two days. The way he talked to me about it before I bought the coupon was that the WORK could be done in the next few days. When I called to schedule, they said they would send someone to do an estimate soon. Someone came by on Wednesday, I didn't get any notice and wasn't home when they came. My 16 year old babysitter let them into the yard and relayed that they said they would call that evening. I didn't get a call back and waited a few more days, then called to check in the following Monday. Apparently the guy had been calling the wrong number to get a hold of me. So he told me his thoughts on the trimming (and they were much more substantial than what we wanted done - nothing wrong there, just that we wanted to keep some privacy from the neighbors and he was considering it from the perspective of redirecting tree growth). He gave an estimate of $400-1200 depending on how much they took off. Said they would be out Tuesday afternoon to trim and that he could call to let me know. I didn't hear from him and when they didn't come I texted him and he said Thursday or Friday because of a truck issue. We were leaving town Friday, so I let him know that if it wasn't going to be Thursday then we could push it to next week. Again, he said he would let me know. On Thursday he texted to say they still had a truck issue and would need to reschedule for next week. I gave him a list of days and times I would be around since we had agreed that we should look at it together to make sure we were on the same page. I asked for a heads up of when they would arrive so I could make sure we were home. He did then call Monday evening to say they were be there after lunch on Tuesday. I said we had swim lessons until 11:30, but would be home after that. He called at 11:26 and said that they were outside my house. I wasn't home yet and felt terrible to hold them up, so told them we would be in 20 minutes and they could just let themselves in and start working. We got home 20 minutes later and they were packed up and standing near the truck. The tree had been trimmed and looked fine, but when I tried to talk to him about a couple other things we were wondering about (a dangling branch, some trimming on a couple other trees), he was polite but it was clear he was ready to leave. To be fair, the work I had asked about was high up and would have required a harness, but given they were standing by their trucks, it didn't feel like anyone was going to suit up if I had decided to take on the extra cost. The discussion on pricing before he left was a little weird because he was seemed not too sure what price he was going to land on himself. When he said $600, I went with it because I felt like I was keeping him, but he has said the week before that for just a trim that didn't require anything they couldn't reach from the roof of the garage, it would probably be under $500. It is entirely possible that there was just more than he thought, but $600 for 20 minutes of work including clean up and chipping seems crazy to me. Perhaps that is just the standard for this business. I wrote the check and he left and I went to check out the work. They did a nice job as far as I can tell. The garage roof didn't look banged up, though there were some large deep divets in the ground below. I'm not sure if that can be avoided. So generally, I think they did fine work and you can't help things like truck malfunctions that force rescheduling. I wish they would have had a little more structured communication system and that they would have been a little more conscientious of arriving when they say they will because, as it was, I never actually got to speak with him in person until AFTER the tree had been trimmed through both not getting notified of when the estimate was happening and then them arriving a little earlier that we had discussed. I felt frustrated with the way the pricing was done at the end because it didn't seem consistent with the original phone conversation I had had with him after he did the estimate. But again, I'm am by no means an expert in tree pricing. I'm not sure I would go with them again mostly because, even with being at home most of the time most days with my kids, and checking in regularly, it still ended up feeling chaotic to actually be in my yard with them at the same time. The tree looks good and I'm glad to have it up off the lawn again!

They made me feel pressured to contract with them because they were aware my insurance company wanted quick storm damage tree removal from my roof. I felt they overcharged for removal plus they charged $500 for an approximately 6x6 ' blue tarp, which they almost forgot to put on roof because person thought the $500 was for haul-away, as written on his work order. They made lots of money that day, but not a satisfied customer. Provider was well aware of my dissatisfaction.

Due to the storm in June, 2013, we needed 4 large evergreens removed. Since we would be leaving town again shortly, we needed someone in a hurry. After trying to contact several companies, Minnesota Tree Experts gave me a cost and time estimate that would work. They showed up on time, but underestimated the size of the job. They thought they could work from our driveway but that proved impractical. They ended up using the church parking lot across the street as a staging area. While we are friendly with the church, I would have liked to ask them first. I will say that the crew cleaned up the church lot quite well. But we ended up making a donation to the church anyway. The removal was quite complete but there were some roots remaining that I wound up removing the old fashioned way. The problem is that evergreen roots run shallow and wide. All in all, considering the limited time frame we had, they Minnesota Tree Experts did a more than adequate job under somewhat difficult circumstances.

They were prompt in coming over to give an estimate and then prompt in removing my tree. I think they are on the expensive side, but I needed my tree gone and they got it done and cleaned up well. The only weird thing was I didn't get a written estimate before the work was performed. They did everything they said they were going to do and charged me what they said they would, so it worked out.

Called them for a estimate to trim my tree. Said they would be out twice but never showed up. They asked if I had estimates from other companies, I told them yes. He asked for the price of estimates and said he would be out later that day. Never showed up. And that was the second time they said would be out. I think it's bad business to ask what the other estimates were for and then never show up.

Called provider to request details on Angie's special of $400 worth of work for $199 coupon. Was told the coupon had no minimum purchase requirement. We were then interested in getting a quote on our 80 year old silver maple which needs extensive pruning. We did not even get a chance to ask for a quote after the following transpired: Provider claimed that our location (Larpenteur & Snelling Aves.) was too far away to be worthwhile for his crew to do the job with the coupon. Then he stated that they prefer to stay in the north suburbs. We felt we were not important enough to even warrant a quote. I would not hire this company even with a discount.

Jake and his team were very responsive and came out Saturday, the same day as the storm, to take a look at the tree. I was referred to the company earlier by a coworker. I made the decision Sunday after speaking with the owner to go ahead. He said his team would be out first thing Monday. Within a few hours the rest of the tree was down and everything out of the backyard. They came back the next day to pick up the large logs and finish cleaning up my yard. I did think the price was a little high because the 2/3s of the tree had fallen in the storm and part of it we cut up ourselves to remove it from the street. However, Jake understood my dilemma and was willing to work with me on the price, an unexpected expense. He also included some tree trimming in the price to be done when the trees are dormant as required. I was very impressed with the accuracy when they dropped the remaining tree! Quite impressive!

Contacted Eric, set up appointment early in the week and they were out within 2 days. Tree was gone and cleaned up before I got home. I told them not to worry about the lawn so that was a little torn up but nothing too terrible. We have had some very wet weather so they didn't grind the stump until two weeks later. All done, can?t complain. I have to commend them for going above and beyond. The tree was a very old hickory covered with large burls and I asked them to save a few choice ones for my uncle who turns wood bowls. They initially forgot and hauled it all away. When I contacted Eric he apologized and said if they hadn't dumped it he would send someone out to salvage them. After two weeks and no word I pretty much figured they were gone however when they came out to grind the stump they dropped off 4 nice burls. Thanks guys

The work they did was fine, but the clean up was horrible. They left lots of debris in the front. The responsiveness was not great either. They were also to remove a stump, but wanted to charge extra for that. It took 3 visits to get them out and finish the work. Overall, it was okay, but not overly a pleasant experience. The owner was nice though.

They stopped at our door syaing they had other work in the area and wondered if we needed work done. We did and had been putting it. We agreed to get an estimate. My wife went around the yard and discussed each tree and what needed to be done. We agreed on a price and they said they'd be back later that day or the following week. They showed up in about an hour. 5 or 6 men decended on our lawn working quickly. They had the 4 trees removed and the other trees trimmed in a couple hours. I was happy with the price and they mostly adhered to what was discussed in the estimate. the lilac bush wasn't totally trimmed away from the power lines, but I honestly didn't care too much about that. I think the speed at which they worked (quickly) affected their attention to detail. There were gouges out of trees where their chainsaw had nicked them. Branches being cut were allowed tear because they didn't cut relief cuts to avoid it. Where the stumps were ground they left holes in the yard and giant piles of mulch and dirt next to them. They could've filled in the holes and hauled away the excess. All an all I'm just happy to have the old and dying trees gone. But next time I'll Angie's List before I agree to have the work done.

This is the 2nd time I've used the firm, and will continue to do so. Had called a couple of weeks ago to arrange for a visit to get an estimate (and then schedule the work). Eric showed up precisely when he'd scheduled, and we did a pretty detailed walk-thru of the project. He does an outstanding job of discussing the options and clarifying what are his opinions (usually of how a tree would be best shaped) and what are practical or necessary recommendations. He also does an outstanding job of pointing out what should be done *now* and what can afford to wait (for instance - we actually held off on one maple to give it one more growing season to fill in the butchery that the power company committed). As we were talking about schedule, he got a call from a large crew that was being run off of another job due to weather (wet enough that they could get the trucks in.....just not *out*!). As I was flexible on schedule, he did some "on the fly" scheduling with his crews and added me into the mix for juggling crews. About an hour later (earlier than planned, but I'd told him I was completely flexible) the crew showed up. Eric walked them through the job (and even cut a few limbs himself), they got to work, and about an hour later they were on their way. The job site was not only clean, they'd blown out the gutters "while we're climbing around anyway". Trees look great and I'm a happy camper. I have to say I appreciate the fact that these guys are actual arborists and that they clearly have a great sense of both the aesthetics and practical issues with the trees. And they don't even laugh too much when I ask them to leave the squirel nests in place!

The work they did was good, although I think they took too many healthy branches from the oak trees. They showed up when they said they would, both for the estimate and the work. But the damage to our lawn and their unconcern regarding it bothers me.
Description of Work: We hired then to trim the dead wood from our ash and linden trees in the front yard and our oak trees in the back yard. He did a good job trimming the trees. However, in trimming the oak trees in the back yard, our lawn was trashed. Sticks and debris were all over. They apparently cut large limbs from the oak trees, dropped them to the ground, and then dragged them out of the back yard, tearing up the grass and leaving deep ruts in the lawn. I spent an entire afternoon raking up all the sticks that were left in our lawn. When I called Mr. Gall to request that he come back and repair the damage to the lawn, he was not very receptive. He has agreed to do so. I will update this review after I see the extent of the repair done. Because they did the work the same day I called to schedule it, I was unable to remove items from a flowerbed in the back yard. They removed most of the items (hanging plant holders, birdbath, etc.). I did have a lot of things in the garden, so I know it took some time. However, they missed a little garden statue that they later broke. Nothing was said to me about the broken statue. It was not expensive, but it would have been nice if they had taken responsibility for it. It seemed as if overall, it was a hurried-up job.

We called to set up an estimate, which was promptly done--we spoke with Eric, who gave his recommendations on how the job should be handled , and quoted what we thought was a fair price (I did mention I was an Angie's List member). They were able to do the job the same day, so came back later in the afternoon to do so. The old apple tree was trimmed, and the two large lilac bushes removed, as well as some overhanging branches from a neighbor's tree. They removed and ground as much of the lilac stumps as they could, but since the bushes were set into the patio, they weren't able to completely remove them without damaging their equipment (we were informed of this) -- the patio needs to be demolished (our intent) first, and then maybe we can get rid of the rest of the stumps/roots. The work was done promptly and competently (and during a light rain). Our job was pretty straightforward, but we appreciated being told upfront what they could and could not do. Overall, a good experience.

Jake is a very knowledgeable arborist and as stated in many of his reviews he could have recommended many trees (25) to cut down but took just the ones requested. He had 4 men work very efficiently on my very crowded lot. I needed him to miss the orchard, pavers stacked for future use and the many trees surrounding the trees that needed to be cut down. His crew worked so carefully and you could not find any leaves or a branches left behind. I have had another local tree company in the past that left the tree and branches (would haul away for an extra charge) and the cut down quote was so much higher. I must mention that in May, Jake responded quickly to my calls and concerns. I located him through an ad from his company. He is knowledgeable, efficient, and a so fair price.

About 10am an estimator shows up offering tree trimming, since their crew's in the neighborhood. Thing is, I have my chainsaw in hand when the guy shows up. But fine, he gives a bid and I agree. He says they'll be by within about an hour. 3 hours later still no word, so I call. Guy says he'll check and call right back. Another hour and still no word. You change your mind, something comes up, fine...but at least let me know what's going on. My time's worth something, right?

They do their best not to step on them, but sometimes it's impossible, so move the plants you want to save. Most of mine were perennials, so I know what gets flattened will come back next year.
Description of Work: I had Jake come out to look at a birch tree that was dying and an ash tree that had quite a few large limbs and braches that were dead.He returned my call and set of a time that he could give an assessment. When he arrived and looked at the trees, he notice that there were small holes going up the main trunk of the birch and said that the tree had birch borer. He gave me options since we have 2 other large birch very close and he inspected those and said those were healthy. He recomtmended treating the two healthy ones with medicine first and coming back a few days later to cut down the nearly dead bore infested birch. Then he looked at the ash and said he thought the ash had a very good canopy and thought pruning the dead under growth would help the ash. I asked him how much it would cost and he told me what it would involve. Today he cut down the birch and pruned the ash with his crew of 5. Trhe job took about 3 hours with clean up. They raked up the debris and my yard looks great. Sure there are a couple of impressions in the lawn, but easily fixed, but they were extremely careful about my perrenial garden and it held up very well. Jake is very knowledgeable about tree species and would rather save a tree than just cutting one down to make extra money. This is the second time I have used him in ten years and they did the same great service as before. Just a note that he gets busy in spurts and he will get back to you within a few days. As he was talking to me he was getting calls frequently about other jobs. My neighbor also was squeezed in for a major pruning job for his ash and was surprised that his tree did not need to get cut down. They can only prune certain trees this time of year, pending on species. My other two birch will need to be pruned this fall when the leaves change to prevent insect issues.
