We had gotten an estimate from a place to install the glue down Mannington flooring and called Brian, owner of MC Squared, to come give us a second estimate. He questioned why we were putting down the glue down version of the floor instead of the floating version, which seemed like what he thought would work, so we changed to the floating version. Brian himself did the laying of the floor. After he started laying it, I asked him a question about laying that kind of a floor and found out he had never laid one of these floors before, he'd let me know when he was done if he would ever do one again. I never would have picked him if I had known he had never done one before. His material estimate was short and he had to reorder and have someone come back and finish the job. He came back once to roll down some of the panels on the floor. We ended up renting a weighted roller and going over the whole job ourselves. After he was done, we had him come back to look at the floor because there was a problem with the floor panels. The panels were supposed to have a bit of sheen on them. Some of them were just fine, but some of them had no sheen on them at all and some had like a pebble effect on them and they were interspersed throughout both rooms randomly. Brian told us it looked like there were flaws in the panels, which I thought he should have noticed while he was laying them down. He thought, if we were lucky, Mannington, the manufacturer, might refund the cost of the material, but we would be out the labor costs and if we could get the cost of the material, we should just take the money and leave the floor the way it was (it looked awful). And that was all he did for us. I had to call and email the manufacture myself and worked with them for about a month to explain the problem, have it verified that the problem was there, and what they would do for me. Mannington told me I had to get my materials from the same place Brian originally got them, but I could change installers. I began working between Kathy, at Flooring Solutions, Inc, and Mannington until Kathy asked me why I was working with Mannington and not the person who put the floor in. She was so kind and took over all the communication with Mannington for me. She questioned me why I put the floating flooring down instead of the glue down version and told me with all of her years of experience with flooring she would recommend not using the floating and definitely advised me to put down the glue down version. I talked with Mannington and they would allow me to change out the flooring to use the glue down, but they sent me a form letter which stated I would be responsible for paying for the difference in the upgrade and anything that was not on the original receipt (like glue and things). Kathy worked out everything with them, sent a contractor over to take out the old floor and install the new floor and redid some of the things different, like putting in a metal piece where the floor met the basement stairs going down instead of putting in what looked like a wood corner board. I ended up with a beautiful floor and did not have to pay a penny to have it done over. Flooring Solutions did a fantastic job on my floor and Kathy worked with Mannington to pay for everything to have the floor redone. I did not have to settle for just getting a refund for materials and live with the bad job that was done. I was very disappointed with Brian for not taking the lead and contacting Mannington and getting a solution for this problem for me.
