first off, to be fair, the piano is old and not an easy model to work on. however, he was told that up front and asked if his price included an evaluation of what it would need. which instead of doing he dimissed - rather condescending I must add - that "it's not worth the expense". to put it as shortly as I now have time for: he came recommended, so I suspect he is able to tune and work on piano's which almost any average tech could probably make sound good, BUT: 1 .first and foremost, the piano overall now sounded worse after he tuned it than it did before. Given the piano's age, I cannot really say that it's this guy's fault. But based on past experience with piano's it is my opinion(and frankly my big hope) that he did not adequately set the pins. I have been a musician for over 20 years and it was a very good sounding piano(which was the primary reason I bought it). Even as it gradually went more out of tune, it sounded better than it does now. I am praying that the next piano tech that I try can at least get it back to where it was. 2. he did not know how much I paid for the piano, so should not have presumed what expense to regulate the action/etc. I paid him to evaluate and tell me what it would need and how much it would cost. I didn't pay him to make the decision for me because he didn't want to do the work, and in my opinion this is exactly what happened. 3.In my opinion, he is one of those people who think that noone should be taken seriously unless they have a 2 or 3000 dollar or more instrument. If you have a Steinway or even a mid-to-high end Yamaha or something, maybe you'll do OK to call him. The problem is, not everyone can afford a Steinway or even a Yamaha. And anyway it's not really needed to study and learn on. As I said, I've been a musician for a long time. And I know that you don't necessarily have to have a 2000 instrument; this is true of ANY instrument. What you need is an instrument that will hold it's tune, and someone who can adjust it to be as good as it can be. I've have piano tech's who could make a 100 year old 400 dollar upright that would not hold tune for more than a month sound so good that I could not stop playing it for 3 days. This guy is not one of them.

Martin Mikus has been tuning our grand piano since it was delivered 18 months ago. The piano consistently sounds beautiful when he leaves, and it has settled in nicely. He has done the minor adjustments that a new piano requires and installed the humidity control system for us. He is flexible, consistently on time, and has offered many helpful tips on caring for a valuable investment. We look forward to many more years of working with him!

Nice man who tuned a very out-of-tune piano. Very prompt and did a very good job.
