Well, if you want your painting job to end with calling the police, he's your guy. If you want to buy supplies for your painter, like cleaning supplies, brushes, rollers, and paint pans, he's your guy. If you want to scrape the paint drippings off your sinks, counter tops and floors, he's your guy. If you want to clean up after him every time he chooses to appear and disappear, he's your guy. If you want to take over 3 months to have 2 rooms, basement wall and floor painted, he's your guy. If you want to be called names, have your home criticized, and be yelled at, he's your guy. We have gotten the services of a go-between who told him never to personally contact us again, if he does the police will be involved again.
Description of Work: We hired Luke Bellville (of Luke's Painting) to paint our apartment kitchen, bath, and home basement in November 2011, in March 2012 our experience ended with me calling the police. We found a go-between to arrange pick up of the things he left here. KITCHEN: The junction between the walls and ceiling are 'wobbly' at best and there is a 3" - 4" grey area around the edge of the ceiling that looks like it has not been painted. He admitted that they needed to be fixed but left before he finished. He lost a drawer knob and told me: "You can find that." I haven't to date. He refused to clean the glue off the walls where the sink back splash had been glued onto the wall. I took a sander (which was available to him) and did the job in about 10 minutes. He simply skipped painting the window trim in some places. BATH: He refused to take the tank off the toilet as he said, "I have a long brush for that." I took the tank off and there was an unpainted space that I filled in and painted some spots he had missed. He refused to take the medicine cabinet down, so I did, he put it back with only 2 of the 4, required, screws, I tightened everything up and put the other 2 screws in. He lost a towel hook, and screws for the on he didn't lose. He did replace the toilet tank top that he broke. In that process of dropping the tank top he chipped the sink (he didn't tell me about the chip). The line between the walls and the ceramic mop boards is worse than the kitchen ceiling line. BASEMENT: We supplied the sealer and rollers for the walls. He said we should have more color down there. I did have the colored paint that will go on those walls--for some reason I didn't think it was any of his business as I planned to apply that paint after the sealing was completed. He proceeded to find a can of lime-green latex paint and painted 3 walls lime green. In the past we have had water seepage problems so we needed the walls SEALED not painted with latex paint. 2 of the walls he painted were not part of our original contract. He argued that the latex would seal them, I wonder why the previous 4 layers of latex didn't do the job? I researched the paint and found that there was a sealer that seal the walls through the new latex and got that for him. He proceeded to cover another wall which I had specifically told him NOT to with the tinted sealer. BASEMENT FLOOR: He decided to take short cuts with the floor expoxy and not "etch" the floors first, remember that he WILL NOT listen and made fun of me for doing research on specific paints. It turned out that the epoxy did not hold so I found out that we need garage floor epoxy if there is a chance there will be standing water on the floor. I got the upgraded epoxy and etching materials and he covered the parts of the floor he had not painted before. He told me they blended well. They didn't! When I asked him if he was going to leave the patchwork looking job he yelled at me, "If you think I'm going to repaint the whole basement, you're crazy!!!" And then went on a stomping rant around the yard. I asked if we could discuss this and he said, "Talking to you is like talking to a senile old woman!!!" IF he had talked to me he would have found out that I agreed with him and wanted to see what we could do--I never got the chance. I told him to stop talking to me that way and he stormed at me (thankfully the storm door was between us) with red face, clenched fists, and throbbing temples--I stayed behind the door mute. He drove off and I called the cops, if he comes here again they will step in. We had so much time and money invested in the job that we really wanted it finished. When he physically threatened me we decided that it was worth the cost to get him out of our home for good.
