Matt was very flexible in terms of how involved we wanted to get in terms of picking out specific details.
90% of the work was done by one of his workers (Jack). Fairly common given tight spaces. Jack was great. He was very prompt every day and kept me up to date on the progress. He is very skilled with the custom tile as we ended up doing a lot of detailed work.
My only complaint with London Point was with the speed at which the work was completed. This was my first major remodel, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall, the work took about a month longer than what Matt originally estimated. Some of that was due to just the nature of the detailed work and we didn't want it to be rushed. However, I felt at some points Matt could have done a better job in "predicting' when certain steps should be scheduled. Towards the end, there were several days with no progress because of hold ups.
However, overall, I would work with Matt again without hesitation. If your goal is to rip something out and replace very quickly, maybe not the right place. But if you are looking for exceptional work, at a fair price, and with somebody that you can build a trusting relationship with....London Point should be your choice.
"I should let this review go without response, but I can't. When we were asked to come in and fix another company's work, I should have run for the hills. I felt bad for (deleted member name) for having been taken advantage of by another company and decided to help with the bathroom repairs. What a mistake. The previous remodel was terrible, we had a great deal of repair to get it to where it would look decent again. We ran around picking out tiles and accent pieces to help make it look decent. It was one of my licensed workers that did the work. I was there as well through the process. Upon completion, the homeowner said she loved it, and there was no issue at all. I waited for final payment, having to shake down the previous company and (deleted member name) for the balance of the job many weeks later. She did pay without question or incident. At no time for the next year did she mention caulking, grout, or a shower curtain rod. After a year, she called about the cracked grout. The way the plastic walk in tub was put in, I wasn't all that surprised to hear of some cracking. I agreed to come and address it, which I did. However, this is not before calling several times, setting up a time to fix the problem, and getting yelled at over the phone for not being there at a time I didn't set. I came in at the time I said I'd be there, fixed the issue to which she agreed looked nice, and I left. I really did not care to sit down to afternoon tea and chat at this point. Still, there was no mention of the shower curtain rod, and the other issues due to the other companies average work was taken care of. We tried to help her out with what was an extremely expensive and bad previous remodel. Our fix ended up costing our company time and money and more aggravation than any company should have to deal with. To be portrayed and treated like a low life scum bag with this review is upsetting to say the least. I think this review is a joke and pathetic, but then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion."
The project was started exactly on time with removal of the existing tile. It was a huge job and took several days. Unfortunately, the floor surface was very irregular, bumpy and unlevel after the tile was removed. This made the feel of the new carpet flooring not nearly as good as we had hoped.
We were not told that our finished flooring would be this bumpy and unlevel, and this contributed to our disappointment with the remodel. We did discuss this with Matt and we were told it would be a costly job for them to fix it now that they had finished the carpet laying. We feel that another company would have stopped the project after tearing out the tile to explain how it was going to affect the feel of our new carpet and given us other cost options for fixing it. Neither were done in this case.
The rest of the project took forever. There were several days that I was told the crew would be at our house and no one showed up. Matt was not good at return calls, emails or texts as the project progressed. However, whenever I did talk with Matt and the crew they were always very professional. We had just wished the communication was more efficient and accurate.
The interior paint job wasn't as we had hoped. There were obvious areas of uneven color. Matt was great in coming back to fix it for us though.
It was one month ago that Matt last said he would be back to touch up the paint on the ceiling and exchange a rusty vent cover for a new one. I haven't heard from him since so we will just complete the job on our own.
"As the owner of London Point Remodeling, I’m disheartened to hear that anyone is upset with our performance, materials, or any facet of the remodeling process. I certainly will not quibble or argue as to the right or wrong of a project with a homeowner as yours are certainly the opinions that matter the most to me. With that being said however, we treated this remodel with the detail and attention that it deserved. If there was an issue, we fixed it promptly and completed the job as efficiently as we could. The delays were in waiting for materials to arrive, some of which were special order items or decisions made by the homeowner after the work had begun and were not available to us immediately. This did then hinge on the completion of the trim work which was to be the last component. We couldn’t move faster than the materials could get to us. The floor bumpiness became an issue with the homeowner. We removed all of the existing ceramic tile and scarified the excess mortar off the floor to relative evenness. We cleaned the cement, put a stain blocker to block any moldy smell. The floor foundation did have a couple heaves in it which had no bearing on our work. I sought out the expert opinion of my carpet reps. They said that this is common and no different than they’ve seen a hundred times. They would not have done anything any differently. they then laid the new pad and carpet. It turned out beautifully. In regards to the painting, I asked the homeowners if they liked how the paint turned out, they said “Yes, it looks wonderful” Another comment was: “ Amy, the paint color looks great with the carpet and fireplace. You really nailed it…” I guess I was surprised to receive a less than favorable review of our work having received the following email after the job completion and having been paid in full: “ Hi Matt, I just wanted to say I am loving my new basement! You and Amy had the right vision and your team really transformed it. Thank you for taking my concerns seriously along the way…" We do our very best to listen, address, and communicate with our customers with the respect that comes with every job. I feel terrible that we’ve fallen short of our goals in their eyes and wish them years of happiness in their new home. -Matt Centner, Owner of London Point Remodeling"
Our project was not a complete kitchen remodel from top to bottom. Our existing cabinets, island, and tile were in good shape. However, we had an old built-in range and microwave which we wanted to replace. Based upon the layout, that meant we could keep the lower cabinets in that area, but would have to replace one section of uppers. We also wanted new granite on all the counters, both new and existing. We wanted a cooktop removed from the existing island, replaced with granite.
I called several contractors and received recommendations and proposals from a few. Importantly, Matt really listened and understood our objectives and was willing to work with us on ideas. He had a lot of good suggestions for improvements on our overall plan. Since it wasn't a complete gut of the kitchen, several contractors were less than enthusiastic. Matt liked our overall plan, and gave us a reasonably priced proposal. We went back and forth several times with questions, and I called many references.
Because we were retrofitting several pieces, the exact sequence of the project was important. With any project of reasonable magnitude, there are always some unanticipated issues. In our case, we had a delay with getting city permits and inspections. Even though Matt was not responsible, Matt was apologetic and kept us informed. In short order, we were back underway. The cabinets are beautiful, and perfectly match the existing ones that remained. The granite is fantastic. In both cases, the companies that Matt chose to work with were outstanding. In addition, Matt and his crew were always professional, thorough, and did great work. Each day, they cleaned up the area completely.
During the project, we added a couple of small things, changed our minds slightly, and so forth. However, we were also flexible with the schedule and understood if Matt needed to adjust dates a day or two. By working together this way, with both sides being reasonable and flexible, we had a stress-free project that completed in a reasonable timeframe, exactly how we wanted it, and exactly to budget.
Although it took awhile to get started once we had agreed to go with Matt, when the work started it took a little over 5 weeks. It would have taken 4, but the fabricator installed the wrong size sink. Matt handled this well, and a week later everything was resolved and re-installed. Matt and his crew were great. They were very capable, friendly, neat and tidy. I had no concerns leaving them alone in the house. Jack, who did a lot of the work liked to cook, and even brought some cookbooks over for me to check out. Matt's wife Amy helped pick out tile, and the whole crew helped me decide on the floor color, and convinced me to go darker.
The cabinets are beautiful. Matt told us we had to go with a range hood and an in cabinet microwave instead of putting the microwave over the stove. I am so glad he did, because the range hood is so beautiful and the microwave is a big hit with the kids! Engstrom, the company who makes the cabinets, has great workmanship and delivers a high quality product. All pullouts, soft close, etc. were included and we could have added as many bells and whistles as we wanted. We added in cabinet lighting in 2 cabinets with glass doors. All of the lighting has dimmers.
Greg, the floor guy, did a super job - my floors are beautiful. And he is so polite; he even offered to help me carry my groceries in one day.
We are very particular, and I am sure hard to deal with at times. Matt addressed all of our concerns and took care of everything. I have recommended LondonPointe remodeling to friends who are considering remodeling their kitchen. We totally love our kitchen, and would consider using LondonPointe for other remodeling projects.
We're having Matt bid window replacement now, and I'll submit a report on that if we choose him to do the work. He seems very competitive and interested in working in our budget.
