Local Motion Destroyed our Belongings, Admitted Responsibility and Does Not Respond to Attempts to Contact Them. DO NOT HIRE LOCAL MOTION!!!! They do not honor their word and you will probably lose things that cannot be replaced! I really regret having to write this candid review. I really liked several of the employees at Local Motion. However, despite what I believe to be sincerity and professionalism, the company itself is unreliable, misleading, and reckless. In our case, just a ruined sofa and bed totaling approximately $5000 in addition to family heirlooms that are irreplaceable are heavily damaged. Local Motion destroyed or damaged beyond acceptable use a high end Flexsteel sleeper sofa, a Reverie adjustable bed, a hand crafted loft ladder, an antique trunk that our family brought from Sweden when immigrating you the U.S. over 150 years ago, an antique handmade basket, a file cabinet, and assorted other items. The problem was caused because the “best crew” they had loaded the truck negligently, without wrapping the Reverie bed or the Flexsteel sleeper in the bags provided, without properly securing or balancing the load, and without securing several items-just allowing them to ride and jostle along unprotected and shifting around in the truck for 1400 plus miles. They rested the sofa on the arms and directly on the grimy truck floor causing abrasion and greasy stains on the fabric and breaking the frame of the sofa. They heavily soiled the bed with the same greasy stains. It arrived filthy and with a rip of 12 inches or more in the fabric, exposing the inside of the mattress. They wedged the loft ladder upright and tight against between the floor and ceiling of the truck, splintering all four edges badly. This ladder was hand made by my father for my mom’s classroom so students could climb up,into a reading loft. She taught first grade for 35 years, retired, and although now 82 years old, still subbed more than half time until just 6 months ago. Our family heirloom, an antique trunk, was labeled with a large note warning against picking it up by the leather handles. They ignored this and our trunk arrived with both handles torn off and the wood trim on the top and edges scratched and gouged. Extremely heavy items were placed on top of much lighter items, crushing the containers and contents beneath. An antique hand woven basket was destroyed, and one hundred pound or more iron kettle was laid on its rounded edge to puncture and crush boxes of household items, the freezer was dented and the cord bent and crushed, a file cabinet dented and scratched . . . There is more, but I think this is enough to draw a clear picture. The driver was extremely late arriving at the destination. We had been told they would arrive on June 15, possibly one day early or late. They actually arrived later in the day on June 20th after promising a 9:00 am arrival. The driver did not did bother to inform us they were running behind on either the 15th or the 19th. We had people there to help my 82-year-old mother unpack on both days. They had to go home. Both promised arrival times were a no-show on the driver’s part. At first, the moving manager was extremely helpful in trying to work through all of these issues. When I sent him the photos of how horribly the truck was loaded and the damages he was genuinely upset. I had to beg him not to fire the loaders. He said he was, “completely embarrassed” and that the owner was aware of the situation and would take care of us. He took full responsibility for the damage and apologized over and over. To date I have sent many emails with the claims forms and photos of our losses. I have requested confirmation, but the claims person has not responded. Neither have they responded to my phone messages regarding the claim forms and next steps. It has now been over a month. Apparently they did not bother turn in the insurance claim either because the insurance which was included with the move has not contacted me. This has been a heart breaking situation and a shameful way to treat an 82-year-old woman and her precious memories. Again, DO NOT HIRE LOCAL MOTION!!!! They do not honor their word and you will probably lose things that cannot be replaced!
