It went well. Larry came out a couple times to help answer questions. He was helpful and responsive to any questions and so was the office manager. I scheduled the job with them, they came when they said they would come and they did the necessary work and cleaned up after. I barely knew they had been there except for the fact that my new roof looked great!

They were very responsive. Steve Miller was able to come out for the estimate on the same day that I called. Their estimate was the lower of the two I received, but I decided to go with the other company. It was a tough choice. Steve was very professional and helpful. The estimate was a little less detailed, but I know I could have followed up with those questions. Ultimately I went with the other company simply because they were higher rated on Angie's List.

The roof leaked and despite attempts to fix rather than replace a small flat roof they didn't work, so we got 3 bids and chose Lakewoods. Steve came out, measured, gave advice on type of material for the roof, options for the parapets and suggested widening the opening that connects to the drain spout to drain water and allow debris to exit quickly. He was very patient with our questions and listened to our concerns. The roofers arrived on time and did the work in one day. There were a few very minor things we requested be fixed and this happened no problem. Several months later on a Sunday night at 8:30PM, we had water come in our new room during a rainstorm. We called Steve and he answered his cell. He seemed to remember us and patiently listened to our problem and said while he didn't think the roof was leaking, he would stop by the next morning to take a look. True to his word, he did and called us while still at our house. He felt the roof looked fine, but touched up the caulking just in case. He noticed a crack in the stucco and suggested caulking it. We did and the leaking stopped and has not recurred in the past year. We appreciated Steve's promptness and patience during our panicked phone call. We will absolutely use Lakewood's Remodeling again.
Description of Work: A new flat roof with capping of parapets was installed by Lakewoods Remodeling. We had difficulty finding a company that had experience installing a flat roof & doing the metal capping on the parapets.

It was a horrible experience. It started with the roofers failing to connect the bathroom ducts to the roof vents, to leaving piles of sharp aluminum siding on my neighbors lawn, to shoddy workmanship to intentional misrepresentation. Throughout the job I would point out errors and they would correct them, with the final product being "acceptable", but unless you want to spend your time following up on every task they perform, hire someone else. Shawn Rise's response, (minority owner with his brother), was "we'll go over everything at the end and correct anything you are unhappy with". My thought is do it right the first time. The new siding, with insulation, was farther from the walls then the previous siding. In reconnecting the electrical outlets the sider simply pulled the outlet from the junction box and, with 2-3" of wires just hanging in the air, secured the outlet by sandwiching the siding between the outlet and face plate, clearly a dangerous condition and a violation of the electrical code. When I have him junction box extenders that I purchased from Home Depot to use on all of the outlets, he said he had never heard of them. At one point during the process I called Shawn's brother, the majority owner of the company, to discuss my concern with the quality of the work, and received a call back from Shawn telling me that I don't need to contact anyone else at the company and I should deal with him only. I'M PAYING $30,000 AND THE OWNER CAN'T EVEN RETURN MY PHONE CALL??? The guys that installed the gutters ripped shingles during the process and never mentioned it. Those ripped shingles would still be there had I not gone up onto the roof to inspect them. I could go on and on and on, but pictures are worth 1000 words. Oh, and who DOESN'T want their leader pipes laid ON TOP of their shrubs. Run from this company.

Great - Steve gave an accurate estimate, the work progressed on time and the quality was just fine. We could have spent much more on the metal work and gotten a better (more artistic) job, but the work on the roof itself was more important to us and the metal work is fine.

THIS CALL WAS FOR A PATIO DOOR ONLY (NOT ROOFING). THE SALESPERSON ARRIVED TO THE APPOINTMENT AS SCHEDULED AND DISCUSSED OPTIONS AND BENEFITS OF BOTH VINYL AND WOOD PATIO DOORS. THE HOMEOWNER WANTED A BID ON BOTH KINDS. A VINYL PATIO DOOR CAN BE BID ON SITE BUT WOOD DOORS REQUIRE A QUOTE FROM THE LUMBER YARD WHICH SOMETIMES TAKES A FEW DAYS TO RECEIVE. AS FOR THE TIME SPENT AT THE HOUSE, IT ONLY TAKES A MATTER OF 1 MINUTE TO MEASURE ONE DOOR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS PERSONS EXPECTATIONS ARE BUT MOST OF OUR POTENTIAL CLIENTS ARE VERY BUSY PEOPLE AND WOULD BE THRILLED IF IT ONLY TOOK 10 MINUTES. THE APPOINTMENT WAS ON MONDAY APRIL 12, WE GOT THE QUOTE FROM THE LUMBER COMPANY ON THE WOOD DOOR LATE IN THE DAY ON THURSDAY APRIL 15, MEMBER WAS CALLED AND GIVEN A VERBAL QUOTE ON THE PHONE, WRITTEN ESTIMATE WAS SENT OUT FRIDAY MORNING APRIL 16 VIA USPS MAIL. THE MEMBER WOULD NOT GIVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR FASTER DELIVERY.

We found Lakewoods in Angie's list and 3 other contractors. Lakewoods came out and looked our roof and within 3 days provided a quote. The price was reasonable and within ballpark of the other quotes we received. We then spent a couple of weeks iron out details of the quote and signed the contract. The salesperson at Lakewoods was very responsive to all our questions and requests. It took us a couple of weeks to get the job scheduled due to weather. However, Lakewoods kept us informed the entire time as to weather and possible start dates. Lakewoods did an excellent job on adding insulation and rafter vents to our attic and replacing the roof. All was done very professionally and with attention to details. The cleanup was excellent as well. I was so happy with the job I referred Lakewoods to a co-worker of mine, who later contracted Lakewoods to replace her roof and was very satified. Pretty much same experience with scheduling soffit and fascia job. There are a couple of spots we'll ask to have fixed. Other than that, the workmanship was excellent and the contractors were very responsive. We will be definitely considering Lakewoods for replacing our windows and patio doors next year and after.

Overall it went very well. He was prompt and courteous. He recommended someone that does chimney repair. It didn't take very long for estimates. He took a picture of the chimney to show me what was the major trouble spot, and that was very convienent. He gave me two options on how to repair the roof and chimney. They called me back right away and sent someone out the very next day to help me out.

Steve Miller of Lakewoods Remodeling came out to our house and gave us an estimate for a new roof. (We asked several other competitors on Angie's List to come out and do the same.) Lakewoods gave us a great deal on CCA treated #1 Blue hand sewn heavy cedar shakes. Steve is a very nice guy. Not only was Steve always available for our endless questions, but he gave all of the right answers that showed he really knew his stuff. After several phone calls and a very detailed bid from Lakewoods, we decided to go with them. We went out of town, left the key to the house (in case they needed access to our circuit breaker), we called to touch base with him a couple of times, and when we came home to a gorgeous new roof! Considering all of the debris that comes from tearing off an old cedar shake roof, our landscaping was in phenominal shape. We've found a couple of nails and we've picked up little pieces of old felt, but by and large the landscaping was very clean and all of the plantings were as we left them. The day after we returned from vacation, we emailed the company and asked them to check a few small cosmetic items (e.g. the ridge was a little longer than we liked). The next morning Steve came over promptly and dealt with them. We also noticed that a couple of gutter straps had come loose, he fixed those too. We've asked Lakewoods to give us an estimate on adding more insulation to my attic. If we can foot the bill we'll have them do it. Afterall, when you trust someone to replace your roof, you are trusting them with your house, and we certainly place a lot of trust in Lakewoods Remodeling. Nice job guys!
Description of Work: Removed old cedar shake roof and felt ("tar paper"), checked the decking for any rot, replaced some bad decking above the garage, put on new ice and water shield, new felt, added some vents to bring the roof up to current code, replaced all of the flashing (e.g. fireplace, V gutters) and the old vent covers and stack and put on new shakes. They also cut in a new vent and cap for our upstairs bathroom.

This job went very smoothly from beginning to end. The contractor arrived to make an estimate on the day we called. Communication was excellent. The roofers arrived when scheduled and worked nonstop. The work area was cleaned up and great care was taken to ensure that there were no nails or litter left behind. The contractor inspected the work upon completion. We would highly recommend this business.

STEVE DID TELL THE MEMBER HE WOULD EMAIL HIM THE PROPOSAL THE NEXT DAY BUT DURING THEIR DISCUSSION THE MEMBER STATED THAT HE HAD HIS ROOF REPLACED A FEW YEARS BACK BY ANOTHER FIRM AND THEY WHERE SCHEDULED TO COME OUT THAT FRIDAY TO LOOK AT THE ROOF LEAK AND DRYWALL REPAIR. AT THIS POINT STEVE INSTRUCTED THIS MEMBER THAT THE ROOFING PORTION MAY BE COVERED UNDER THAT FIRMS WARRANTY AND ADVISED HIM TO SEE IF IT WAS THUS SAVING HIM MONEY. STEVE THEN TOLD THIS MEMBER THAT HE WOULD BE OUT OF TOWN VISITING FAMILY ON FRIDAY AND MONDAY AND WOULD GET HIM THE BID FOR THE WHOLE PROJECT ON TUESDAY IF THE ROOF WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, TUESDAY 4/27/10 @ 7:24 AM BID SENT VIA EMAIL. OUR ESTIMATE FOR THE DRYWALL AND PAINTING REPAIR WAS HIGHER THAN WHAT HIS INSURANCE CARRIER WAS ALLOWING (INSURANCE COMPANY’S HISTORICALLY PAY VERY LOW ON DRYWALL AND PAINTING BECAUSE THEY THINK THE HOMEOWNER WILL JUST DO IT THEMSELVES). THE MEMBERS INSURANCE ADJUSTER ASKED FOR A COPY OF OUR STATE LICENSE SO THEY COULD ALLOW AN ADDITIONAL 20% CONTRACTOR OVERHEAD AND PROFIT TO GET THE BIDS A BIT CLOSER, WE FAXED A COPY OF OUR LICENSE OVER TO THEM ON THE DATE REQUESTED 4/27/10 (WE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FAX COMMUNICATION THAT IS LOST, MISDIRECTED OR MISPLACED ON THE OTHER END). UP TO THIS POINT WE HAD SEVERAL EMAILS BETWEEN OUR OFFICE AND THIS MEMBER ALL OF WHICH WERE ALWAYS ANSWERED WITHIN A COUPLE OF BUSINESS HOURS. KEEP IN MIND THAT AT THIS POINT WE HAVE DONE EVERYTHING REQUESTED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY FORM OF A VERBAL COMMITMENT OR A SIGNED CONTRACT WITH THIS MEMBER. NEGOTIATING WITH INSURANCE ADJUSTERS IS A TIME CONSUMING TASK WHICH WE ARE HAPPY TO DO IF WE HAVE A COMMITMENT. AFTER THE LAST CONTACT ON 4/27/10 WE THOUGHT THE MEMBER EITHER DID THE WORK HIMSELF OR WENT WITH ANOTHER FIRM. THIS MEMBER WAITED 3 ½ MONTHS TO EMAIL US BACK REGARDING THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT TO LOOK AT THE REPAIRS BUT COULD NOT WAIT A FEW DAYS TO GET AN ESTIMATE. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE EVERYONE; ESPECIALLY IF THEY CANNOT BE PLEASED.

A few weeks ago however, I called Steve Miller at Lakewoods Remodeling and asked him to look at a section of roof where a shingle had come loose. He said he had an appointment but would come over right after. He arrived within 2 hours, climbed on to the roof looked things over and concluded that the roof was fine and the shingle needed to be nailed back on. So he did that and would not accept any payment. He said it was a small item and that just thinking of Lakewoods next time we needed roofing or recommending the company to a neighbor or friend would be payment enough. So here is my recommendation, they do great work, well supervised, with courtesy and kindness and this kind of customer service and neighborliness is very hard to come by. I am glad I discovered them and would certainly hire them again.

Our reasons for choosing Lakewoods Remodeling were many. They (Sharon, Bill and Steve) were professional and pleasant on the phone and very responsive with our estimate request. Lakewoods also had an excellent record in Angie’s List. Of our estimates, they were not the least expensive or the most. The main reason was their salesperson/supervisor, Bill Mossberg. After my remark about our problem with ice-damming, he mentioned that while doing the roofing work, they could take a look from the outside and tell if we had adequate attic ventilation. The roof work went well, with Victor heading up the crew, but two layers of shingles and 50 year-old tar-paper make a real mess – came off in little pieces. The new roof looks great, and the crew did a good job of clean-up. Only problems were some rotted roof boards, a couple damaged vinyl siding panels from roof debris, and some shoddy workmanship by a previous siding installation (not Lakewoods). Lakewoods fixed them all. A reasonable adder to the original estimate was asked and paid. The tear-off of some soffit revealed almost no air intake vents. That crew, headed by Shane, cut in many new vent intakes and replaced the entire perimeter soffit and fascia. This work was included in the original estimate, and did not over-run. Two amateur radio antennas were removed at no charge and without damage. Because of the huge mess of very small debris, clean-up was done with both vacuum and magnets, and was very acceptable. Bill frequently checked on the work in progress and came by later just to make sure we were happy and that no additional clean-up was necessary. Overall, this was a very pleasant experience, dealing with friendly and proficient people. We added them to our “good guys” list.
Description of Work: Replaced roof shingles, cut additional soffit air intake vents, replaced soffit and fascia. Repaired siding/soffit gaps (left by another siding installer).

Our house has a number of dormers and a total of 16 separate roof planes. The roof suffered hail damage and was replaced as part of an insurance claim. I contacted three roofing firms for estimates. One gave me a fixed dollar amount. The other two, including Lakewoods, offered to do the work in return for the insurance settlement proceeds. I selected Lakewoods based on their Angie’s List rating and their estimate for any additional work that was not covered by the settlement. This included replacing any rotten wood and an estimate for adding gutters to the back of my house. Bill, the salesperson, was very amiable and not pushy. He explained that the cost of materials had gone up since the original insurance estimate had been made and that Lakewoods would negotiate with the insurance company to increase the settlement. He discovered that the flashing for our two skylights was no longer available from the manufacturer. Steve, the project manager, suggested that we replace the entire skylight and submit that expense to our insurance company. The insurance company adjusted our claim amount to cover the skylights. Victor and his roofing crew were outstanding and were some of the hardest working guys I have ever seen. They replaced the rotten wood around the bottom two feet of the roof on our old detached garage, which now looks decades newer. Clean up of the work site was generally good. The only minor item that could be improved on would be better placement of tarps to reduce the number of nails found in the driveway and yard after they left.
Description of Work: Total tear-off and replacement of asphalt shingle roof on house and detached garage. Installation of 60 linear feet of gutters and three downspouts. Replacement two fixed skylights.
