We scheduled about 2 months in advance because it required John to remove the action from our piano and take it to his workplace. We chose a time when he expected to be able to turn it around in a week. He provided an estimate, pre-ordered all the parts, picked up the action one Friday and returned it to us the following Friday. Though he forewarned us that as the wood adjusted to its new environment that we might have sticking keys and other issues, we've had no significant problems. John's quote includes any service the new action and dampers might need for the first year. He preventatively schedules an appointment each week for the first couple weeks to address emerging issues as the action adjusts to the new environment. For the dampers, he scheduled twice in one week as the dampers were hanging up a little on the older strings of our piano. His service is unparalleled. His standards are very high, which is just what you want them to be for a piano. He is always prompt for his appointments, often arriving a few minutes early. He's polite, pleasant, and I'm very comfortable with him in my home. I can't imagine entrusting such a large repair on this piano to anyone else. He came highly recommended from a piano teacher friend.
Description of Work: John completely replaced the action in our 1960s Steinway Grand Piano, and redid the dampers.

I've used John McKone for years to tune our piano. I got his name from a friend that is a piano teacher. He also tunes our church pianos, and I know he tuned at the U of M for years. He's always punctual and polite. I'm very picky about the tuning of our piano and he always leaves it perfectly tuned. He's a husband and father, and I'm very comfortable having him in my home when I'm the only one there.
Description of Work: To tune a Steinway Grand Piano.
