$2,000
After my father passed away I was looking to remodel my father's home in order to sell it. A lot of work needed to be done and being in a vulnerable position, when Jamie said he would "take care of everything," I trusted him. I had spoken with Jamie on numerous occasions where he described everything he planned on doing as far as the kitchen and bathroom updates, but said he could not start without any funds in advance (similar to the other complaint listed here). I gave him an advance of $2,000 where he said he would begin painting the interior of the home and would stop by with paint samples. After 2 days of work, he said he was finished. When I asked about the paint, he said I "misunderstood" what he had said. When I asked what he had done with the $2,000 he listed off: power washed the exterior of my home, cleaned the interior of the home and windows, got rid of the backyard debris, moved objects into the garage, and cleaned the gutters. None of these things were agreed to. These are all tasks I could have done myself, and do not need to hire a "professional" for. Nor would anyone charge $2,000 even if I had hired them to do these things. I don't seek anything here but to share with the public what type of man this is. While this happened in 2013, it is a great lesson others can benefit from. Jamie completely took advantage of me during a time of psychological distress, and did not even think twice to return any of the money to a young girl whose father had just passed away. I wonder how he would feel if someone did this to his daughter. If Jamie asks for money in advance, I highly suggest you don't give it to him. Better yet, don't hire him at all. I have not spoken to Jamie since. I hired another contractor, Aaron Shelley, at Twin Cities Renovations and saved over $8,000 on updating my entire home just by not going with Jamie. I continue to call Aaron for he is honest, trustworthy, and has never asked me to pay him in advance. Good Luck.

We did the demolition right down to the studs. Everyone will tell you that a kitchen remodel is the worst and will test even the most solid of marriages. Jamie made it a pleasure and worked with us to help us get exactly what we wanted. We ended up with custom cabinets, granite countertops, a wider opening to the dining area and a new kitchen door and storm door to the garage. We made some changes on the fly and he was most professional and accommodating; not to mention encouraging. He didn't fail to call out a less than perfect job done by one of his sub-contractors and made absolutely sure that all was perfect in the end. Despite the extensive range of this project, he always made sure that everything was protected and totally cleaned after the project was completed. Since we got 'you may as well' disease during the project, we ended up also having him completely renovated the guest bathroom in our lower level! We went right down to the studs again. He re-worked the old postage stamp-sized shower into one that we are proud to have. He eked out every inch he could to give us a more comfortable room. Jamie is a truly extraordinary tile master. He just finished today and the results are just as fabulous as the other projects he's done at our home. He's so good that we're going to miss having him and his crew with us. Our dog is even going to miss them and all the attention he got.

JGF Remodeling (Jamie Farness is the sole proprietor) was hired to remodel two showers in August 2015. Jamie claimed completion of both showers by Nov 1, starting work in mid-September.  He started Oct 5. Jamie was unable to construct the correct size neo-angle shower base, requiring us to order larger capstone. By October 23, installation of the larger capstone remained. The custom shower enclosure was measured.  Jamie demanded an advance on the contract of $962.50 and threatened to walk off the job if we did not pay him immediately. We reluctantly cooperated as he said he had bills to pay before starting our second shower 3 weeks hence. Jamie had great difficulty cutting the capstone to fit and, with the purchase of yet more capstone ($52.29), produced what looked to be his best effort on Nov 6, finishing installation Nov 10. He assured us everything would be fine and stated he could not do the second shower for several weeks. On Nov 13, the shower enclosure was scheduled to be installed but did not match the capstone as the capstone did not fit the base. We contacted Jamie about the problem; he did not respond to text, voice mail, or email. We negotiated a settlement with the glass company to redo the shower enclosure for the price of the glass ($290.00).  Jamie has not responded to our multiple requests for reimbursement sent via email, text messaging, tracked letter, and voice mail.  Our conciliation court date is February 16.

This is the third time we have used JGF remodeling.  We have done two bathrooms in the past and were very happy with JGF Remodeling.  Jamie was very good at helping us decide how to upgrade our kitchen with limited space and options.  He came up with some great ideas to add dimension to our kitchen and incorporate our ideas in the remodel.  He also has a great sense of color and putting color and tile options together.

We've been very happy with them and we had them back many times.  He is fabulous and really good.  He has done work for us before.  We found him by a magnet he put in our mailbox.  He was her daily and he has three workers; one to help him in the electrical and one to help him in the cabinetry.  He is friendly, professional and on time.  He is a perfectionist; he really did a nice job.

Jamie of JGF Remodeling is absolutely wonderful. We put the project out for bids, we got 3 bids, Jamie came in lower than the others which was expected because he was charging labor alone, we would buy the material, we went to the tile outlet and he came with us and we used his discount and bought tiles, electrical outlets and a tub all through his discount. He then showed up and totally transformed the old non-functional bathroom in a work of art in 4-5 days. He is one of the friendliest, most thorough contractor that I have ever worked with.
