Jack did a thorough job. There was no mess when he finished. He helped with other problems we had with our vents.
Description of Work: He inspected my home after I had a series of radon tests done and he described very thoroughly all the steps he would take to be able to vent the radon from a pit underneath the concrete in my basement floor through a vent pipe up through the roof.

He went above and beyond specifically what he was called to do. He caught some back draft problems and helped me resolve those problems. I'm sure they do larger jobs, but I felt as though my little home was of the utmost importance to him and he gave acute attention to detail for such a small job.

In our current system (builder installed, 1991), the vent stack was sweating. We were trying to finish the basement and couldn't wall up a wet pipe. He provided advice on how to deal with it, including installing an exhaust fan and insulating the pipe cavities while not compromising the radon abatement. He also made some referrals in case we didn't want to do the work ourselves. We tested for radon and had a very low reading. So we tried the insulating tips - the pipe isn't sweating anymore and we still have negligible radon levels. Best of all, we were able to do it ourselves and saved the $800 on the fan and blown in cellulose.

Don't bother calling anyone else! After having several Radon reduction companies come to our house and spend a few minutes, then suggest unsightly, easy solutions, Jack was a pleasant surprise. He spent more than an hour at our house, investigating the possibilities, discussing our concerns, and educating us on the process of reducing radon. He even let us watch a dvd of his appearance on ''Ask This Old House''. Jack teaches all the certification courses for radon reduction in the Twin Cities, and really knows his stuff.
Description of Work: Jack came to give us an estimate on a radon reduction system. We have a totally finished basement and some oddly placed mechanicals, which makes reducing radon in our home a bit more of a challenge.

THOUGH JACK'S MAIN INTEREST IS MOST LIKELY RADON MITIGATION (HE TEACHES CLASSES AND SEMINARS ON THE SUBJECT AND WILL BE APPEARING ON "THIS OLD HOUSE" IN JANUARY), HE UNDERTOOK OUR ENERGY/VENTILATION PROBLEM AND SOLVED IT WITH EXPERTISE. HE'S KNOWLEDGEABLE, EXPERIENCED, HARD-WORKING AND HONEST. IF ANYONE IS HAVING RADON, ENERGY OR VENTILATION PROBLEMS, JACK WOULD BE AN INDEPENDENT EXPERT TO CONSULT WITH. HE'S NOT SELLING ANY PRODUCT AND WOULD PROFESSIONALLY HELP DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMEND A SOLUTION.
Description of Work: JACK PROVIDES RADON, ENERGY, AND VENTILATION SERVICES. WE HAD AN AIR VENTILATION PROBLEM IN OUR HOME FOR YEARS THAT NO ONE ELSE COULD DIAGNOSE PROPERLY. A CONTACT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA REFERRED JACK, WHO HAD RECENTLY MOVED HERE FROM MONTANA, TO US. THROUGH DIAGNOSTICS, HE FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF AIR LEAKAGE BETWEEN THE HOUSE AND THE ATTIC DUE TO MANY RECESSED LIGHTS AND DROPPED CEILING AREAS ON THE UPPER LEVEL. HE SPENT 4 LONG DAYS IN THE ATTIC MOVING INSULATION AND SEALING ATTIC BYPASSES. THEN WE HAD INSULATION BLOWN IN TO TOP IT OFF, PROBLEMS SOLVED.
