I hate to decorate and am no good at it at all. I have no "vision," only a vague idea of what I like and don't like. I went through 3-4 decorator consultations before I found Mary so you can see that I am somewhat difficult to please. In addition, I lived in my new 8,300 sq. ft. home for 8 years before tackling the decoratoring in the main rooms for the very reasons mentioned above. Mary arrived when these rooms looked just like they did when we moved in 8 years ago. Mary has had over 30+ years in the design business and she can envision a whole room or house before you even start a project. She took my husband and I to IMS and we found furniture. She took us to oriental rug galleries and we found rugs. She has a vast network of reliable, professional and very talented people she has worked with for many years in the fields of faux painting, wallcovering, artwork, furniture sales & repair, drapery & upholstery, or whatever service you might require to furnish or remodel or stage or change your home in any way. My dining room was transformed from a white, empty room to one that now has plaster medallions from Chicago on the ceiling and beautiful, hand painted walls (not stenciled, actually individually hand painted) and a wonderful oriental rug on the floor. My foyer has an incredible ceiling with individual designs painted in the barrel vault corners, an oriental rug and new furniture. The living room now has just the right furniture, rugs, faux painted walls and amazing drapery treatments. All of these rooms coordinate with each other beautifully and there is a "flow" to the design throughout the house. Mary is also adept at using what you have to best advantage. She has moved pieces around in my house and found better and more appropriate places for them. Best of all, Mary is not opposed to finding things that are on sale, in outlet stores, etc., as well as recommending designer only stores at International Market Square (IMS) where she is well known. For example, with Mary's help, I have purchased approx. 100 yards of silk at an incredible price at SR Harris, a fabric outlet store, which will enable me to have her drapery people make fabulous drapes for my master bedroom at a fraction of the cost of buying the fabric through IMS. We are still in the process of adding accessories and moving on to doing other rooms at the time of this posting, but I am very happy with Mary's ideas, execution, choice of professional people to work with, her knowledge of the design resources available in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and her design vision. Mary is very artistic, innovative, considerate of her client's time, conscious of client's budget, and employs people she has worked with for years and who are also considerate & careful of your home. For someone like myself who hates to decorate, it's amazing to be able to say that It has been a wonderful experience working with Mary. She has made our house into a lovely home rather than the large, vanilla box that it was for so many years! I look forward to working with Mary as we move on to other rooms and I could not recommend her more highly.
