Mr. Pfeffer had done a wonderful job for a neighbor who had hired him three or four times. Their remodeling project was the same as what I was looking for. However, from start to end the work on my project and my relationship with Mr. Pfeffer was a disaster. I was in a difficult situation as it would be years before I would see my money back if at all and needed to get moving on the overall project if it was going to ever get done. He wanted $34,000 in advance for materials. He took the money and then started to come up with excuses for delays. I then came to learn that he was in trouble and about to loose his license which he did then loose. He said he would give my money back but that did not happen. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and though he lost his license he was able to work as a subcontractor. He was to do the foundation/concrete work to work off most of the $34,000 he owed me. It took quite some time to get the work done as I am sure Mr. Pfeffer was trying to come up with the money to pay for the materials on my job when he had no money on hand. I got most of what I needed from him but it was of poor quality, late and required great effort.
Description of Work: I initially contracted Mr. Pfeffer to do an addition and second story on my house in May of 2006 for a total of $135,000. He encountered trouble with other clients and was sued, lost his license and was not longer able to work as a general contractor. I was in a bind and had to somehow get the $34,000 I paid him at contract signing and so subcontracted with him to do the foundation and concrete work.

First, it was unfinished in August although the contract specified a completion date of June 1st. Then he bounced a check to the lumber yard and they came after me. His cell phone was shut off. Finally, the city called to tell me that his license had been revoked and the building permit was canceled. Do not hire this man, even if he does get his license back. He is nowhere to be found. Right now I have a half built garage with only a month or two before snow and I'm out of a lot of money. He was completely unapologetic about any mistakes he had made and I have learned to be less forgiving with contractors. He has an answer for everything- don't believe him.
Description of Work: George Pfeffer was hired to build a three car garage in my backyard. The only part he completed was the concrete foundation, framework, and plywood. I have not given him the rest of the money as he has vanished.
