Description of Work: Complete remodel of our home after a fire.

Description of Work: I hired Filla to do a remodel to my 100 year old house. We didn't add any square footage, just removed/added walls to make the existing space more usable. I remodeled the kitchen, added a mud room, remodeled the bathroom, and replaced windows and exterior doors. It was a very significant project.

Description of Work: Reconstruction of home: Our lives changed overnight when, within just a few minutes, we found ourselves outside on a frigid January night (2012), watching intense smoke billowing out of our lovely 1925 bungalow. Tom Filla & company (952.412.0181) were there for us almost immediately following, and during an exceptionally difficult time for us after a devastating house fire. From the first meeting in the lobby of the hotel where we were temporarily housed, until more than a year later, the Filla group have provided thoughtful, reassuring and professional work. Tom has really listened to and respected our concerns and care for reconstructing our period home. The entire lower level was gutted; followed by completely new concrete, insulation, new windows and reframing in a much improved manner from the old. New joists were installed in the lower level ceiling, along with a new main drain pipe under the concrete floor. The lower level bathroom was completely redone, including a beautiful tiled shower and floor, and built in cupboards. A new egress window was installed to create a fourth bedroom. The lower level family room and bedroom were carpeted. A separate, zoned heating system was also installed in the lower level. Original style hardwood floors were installed on the main floor, along with plaster (not sheet rock!) walls. Completely all new electrical and plumbing was installed, including central air and new furnace (replacing the original 1925 boiler). They refinished the hardwood floors in the upper level master bedroom as well. The kitchen cupboards (just two years old at the time) were refinished, along with the original kitchen breakfast nook. All new appliances were installed throughout. Tom and company custom built beautiful new radiator covers. They also recreated original style coving woodwork on the main floor. A new gas insert was installed to replace the original wood burning fireplace.

Description of Work: My kitchen is small with four doors and one window. The goal was to update it and maximize storage. Tom and Anna worked with me to plan the project. We moved one door, changed one door to a bi-fold/fold-back door and removed the door part of a third door. We gutter the kitchen, updated the mechanicals, installed new cabinets, countertops, backsplash and lighting .We added floor-to-ceiling pantry between two studs. The space is now more open and has more storage.

Description of Work: They removed the facia brick and hearth for a wood burning fireplace in a home we just bought, in order to make room for a dining room buffet. They re- sheetrocked the wall, painted, laid flooring to match the old and painted. It looks like there was never a fireplace there. They also moved the ceiling fixture over 8 inches to center over the table. The ceiling was re-textured where the fireplace had been and the entire ceiling in the room was painted, so it looked like nothing had been done. They cleaned up after themselves each time and left no mess.

Description of Work: Tom did a room addition for me, taking the cape cod style expansion upstairs and turning it into a master suite with a full bath. The work was excellent and just what I wanted. He sketched up a plan for me first and we designed together as ideas came to either of us and he did that without charge. When I made the decision to use Filla, he made the final drawing/plan and we went over that to make sure it was right. The work was done within the time frame planned and Tom was quick to answer my questions and make the changes is there was anything not right. Clean up was thorough. I have been very pleased with my room over these years and would hire this contractor again.
