"Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to notice our attention to the details of the driveway installation. It's indeed rewarding to have a customer fully appreciative of the contributions of our crew. Your review and the "unphotoshopped" :) photo you included will be shared with all of them. We are now officially referring to this team as "The Magnificent Seven"!"
"This project was rather involved and required extra attention to detail on many levels. This member really understood the whole process of driveway construction and was great to work with!"
"It's our standard procedure to notify the utility marking company when a contract affecting a property has been accepted. The seasonal aspect of construction work in Minnesota allows a relatively narrow window of opportunity to get work completed. We do our utmost to comply with a homeowner's schedule while keeping a watchful eye on weather conditions...either of which can change "overnight" or sooner. In the case of this member our contract was accepted July 13th and removal of the existing driveway and gravel base phase for the new driveway was done 2 weeks later. This allowed the member to use the area but also provided the opportunity to make any changes in the layout before the asphalt installation which then followed in 4 working days. When we finished laying the asphalt surface, the member gave every indication of being pleased with our work. There was nothing that would have indicated that we provided anything but good and timely service. We make no apologies for our price; this homeowner mentions having received quotes from other contractors - both higher in price and lower. Permit fees for driveway work vary widely from city to city ($25 or more) and in some cites fees are not required. Fee amounts may not always be available on the paperwork our crews have with them but it is reflected on the invoice the member receives and is a part of our contract that such fees are an additional charge. We are disappointed that the member did not first make our office aware of any concerns; we first learned of them upon seeing our Angie's List reviews."
The sales person identified all problems, without my input, with the existing driveway and what they will do to correct them plus how the garage floor situation will be corrected with cement. We discussed design enhancement to the width to match the two sides.
A project manager reviewed the overall plan on a Sunday morning to ensure information and measurements were correct.
When they removed the existing asphalt they found the original driveway had not been completely removed which resulted in extra time and effort on their part of the driveway prep. They also found there was a weak area several feet below the surface in which clay was shifting and would not support a heavy vehicle which would destroy the driveway. This resulted in the need to dig up completed work and place a tarp with stones to secure the base then redo the base driveway effort. These two problems required an addition 3 works which kept them from another job. The added expense to me was very reasonable. During this process the project manager kept me informed of status and the two problems and fixes.
The final paving went very well and again the project manager kept me informed of status..
The $7200 includes the additional charge to remove the original asphalt that had been covered by a second layer plus the tarp and stones for the shifting clay.
They follow up "How to maintain" book is very good.
I wasn't home to see the work being done, but two of my neighbors who are home during the day went out of their way to comment (unsolicited by me) on the quality of the workmanship. They both commented on how particular the work crew was about getting everything level and just right. One said, "I've never seen a crew roll a driveway so many times!" Real nice people too. I had this collection of walking stick sized tree limbs out back that I use to tamp down leaves. The guys left me a similar size pole from my fence that they ripped out. I never mentioned a word about what this stick collection was all about! They must have just thought I'd appreciate having it.
The driveway looks beautiful and now when it rains, I can see the water flowing in the right direction. They are not cheap, but I think they charge a fair price for the quality of the work. They were in the ball park of the other highly rated, well established companies who bid. I also got bids from some bargain priced outfits too just for comparison in terms of the solutions proposed. All in all, I highly recommend them.
Nothing but good to say about them. We had added a 3rd stall to our garage so they removed the 30 year old driveway to the former garage, regarded the area and installed an appropriate sized driveway. They were sensitive to my plants and the area I wanted a new planting area by the street. Previous other venders had tried to talk me into just a big rectangular slap of asphalt. The resulting shape from Earth Wizards will direct the rain water into the new planting area and it just looks more interesting.
"Apparently your telephone interview with Angie's List occurred about the same time our project manager was trying to reach you to inform you that we will examine the issue with the concrete. He indicated that he would schedule this when in your area and follow-up by contacting you to discuss the problem as well as a plan to resolve it. We appreciate your making us aware of this."
"This project presented a number of difficult challenges. We enjoyed working with you in resolving them. Thank you for your review."
"Thank you for the kind comments. You are one of our favorite customers and it's always a pleasure to work with you. After a few different elaborations to the design to properly match the design aesthetic and budgetary guidelines, the project was completed - luckily right before the snowstorm! You were calm, patient and flexible throughout the process. We'll see you next Spring!!"
