The representative from DSS I was working with was fired while my job was being completed. The new representative had anger management problems
Unknowingly I signed an agreement with DSS that included a section that stated that I would pay damages should DSS be fired before the entire job or items listed in the insurance claim was completed.
My insurance claim covered damage from hail for the following.
-Roof
-Siding - sand and repaint
-Skylight.
DSS roofed my house. I was displeased with the communication on their part, their response to my questions, and the feeling that no one was in charge or giving me information about my project.
DSS asked for more money for sanding and repainting from my insurance company. They used a false quote written up by a company representative claiming that there was $$ necessary for lead removal on the house. I contacted the painter on the bid, he said that a representative from DSS just used his letter head and wrote up the receipts himself. I paid for the repainting of the house myself, never using the portion of the funds gotten inappropriately by the false bid.
DSS took me to small claims court in order to win damages on the painting work not done ($$ from the fictitious painting bid). At first when I fired them they tried to charge me 2/3 of the work left on the house. In court, their representative, Jim Krema, stated that I was trying to commit insurance fraud. I guess I have no experience with the bad side of people, because I was so shocked by the lies that I failed to represent myself and ended up paying them $900 dollars to cancel work that they had lied about in order to get more money from my insurance company.
My house is repainted a beautiful blue. I paid for it myself. The roof is okay. If you are thinking of using DSS Exteriors I would look elsewhere. If you do use them, DO NOT SIGN THE SERVICE AGREEMENT. If you do, you cannot fire them for ANY REASON, or you will end up in court.
"I must first apologize, while it is our wish and mandate to have our reps keep the customer informed and be responsive to their needs, especially when working with Insurance, as we all must be patient while the Insurance Company, and then the Mortgage Co follow procedures, and they all vary, but they all consume time, then we can act. We want our customers to know that they are very, very important to us and most of us do inform the customer so they feel comfortable during the lengthy process. It is much appreciated when the customer contacts the office when they are not getting the response they deserve from the rep. We do apologize for that dissatisfaction as a renter or an owner, we aim to please every time we have the chance. I am happy that our crews did work well for you. We always appreciate hearing that, and I do pass that on to them, it is nice to feel like your work is appreciated. As for the beginning of our Company, our website went up in 2004 or so and we separated the siding, roofing, windows, gutters and doors from DSS COMMERCIAL, INC which was formerly DSS and a sole proprietorship prior to that for many years. I would call it an evolution to DSS EXTERIORS, but the same promise for quality continues. We have always had Insurance and qualified people doing the many different trades, we have not always been a member of the BBB, we dropped getting listed during the later 80's and 90's due to some bad publicity they had received, and maybe just inside the 2000's, but we have chosen to be strongly involved with them again. We just separated the business a bit and began to focus on Residential as opposed to Multi-units, Commercial and Industrial, but we continue with DSS COMMERCIAL for those entities. ."
