Jim was a bit late when he met with me (and my husband once he got home) to give the estimate, but he called and let me know when he expected to arrive, so it was very minor. He explained the work needed clearly and answered all of our questions. Joan (who was the representative responsible for coordinating our project) was extremely responsive and helpful. She communicated clearly about the details, and sent out the sample boards of shingles for us to review very quickly. When it became clear that more replacement decking was needed than had originally been estimated, Jim let us know quickly, and explained what the additional costs would be. The crew was very prompt and efficient, and did an excellent job cleaning up during and after the job. The new roof looks great and we're very happy with it! Everyone we worked with was very pleasant and responsive. They made the job as easy as possible on us; we did not have to make arrangements for permits, the dumpster, or inspections. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to our friends.

Jim Kosloski of Craftsmen Home Improvements came soon after my initial call and explained the work clearly and patiently, answering all my questions. His initial bid came in quite a bit higher than the four other contractors I had contacted, but reduced the price to a point (still a bit high) that I could agree to. They came recommended not only by Angie's List but also by a personal acquaintance who had used them, and my experience with the firm fully met my expectations. They met my tight scheduling needs, though the week they started was the only rainy week after a dry sunny fall. The job scheduled to take 2-3 days was extended between showers throughout the week. Jethro's team was terrific: besides being thoroughly professional they were also the nicest guys you could wish for. They were hard-working and managed to work even under the constant threat of showers; they came and finished up their work on a Saturday, and came back to clean-up on Monday (one of them even came on Sunday morning!). Jim's estimates proved to be correct and the price we agreed to was what I ultimately paid them. Jim managed to coordinate his schedule with my insurance assessor and as a result I was partly compensated since the cause of my initial worries was wind damage to parts of the roof--which was also about 20 years old. Asked Craftsmen to help us figure out how and where to add insulation in our 1924 home to help reduce or eliminate our yearly ice dams. After a thorough inspection they presented us with a plan that looked like the best use of our budget. We approved and they installed the insulation. Very professional. After they removed the floor protection mats and vacuumed their way out, the house was cleaner than when they arrived. As to effectiveness of the newly installed insulation, we'll have to see but we believe it will help or we wouldn't have spent the money.

Mr. Tom and Mr. Jim were polite, friendly and very particular about doing the work with precision. They worked well as a team. They exceeded my high level of perfection. Truly "craftsman" built!

Impeccable craftsmanship. Attention to detail. Absolutely no mess; each day after they left they completely cleaned the area up. The bay window had woodpecker damage, water damage, carpenter ant damage & they basically rebuilt and re-insulated it after diagnosing all the problems. Perhaps one of the best contractors I have ever worked with.

We had a great experience with Craftsmen Home Improvements. Erik was nice and easy to work with. Kim was a great go-between and really helped with scheduling and design. Window installers were professional, hard-working, and efficient. We had had a few contractors come and go as the job was a nightmare in dealing with the insurance company. Erik just stayed with it until things were finalized. It took lots of time and patience, and he remained positive and helpful throughout. We definitely recommend working with this team!

When Jim came out to the house to give us a bid, that part was a good experience. He seemed very knowledgeable and I would not have hesitated using them for the work. We did not follow up on it just because the price seemed very high given what we needed done.

The experience was quick and pleasant. The communication with Joan, in the office, was excellent; she sent e-mails so we would know the timeline. The roof-work team, led by Matt, was polite and efficient, and we were glad the roof was finished in one day! The next day (October 4th) was cold and windy, but Matt came back with his magnet bar, to make sure the nails were picked up and home site was clean. The gutters were installed mid-day, and the dumpster was removed in the afternoon. We would hire Craftsmen again, and would recommend their work as roofing contractors.

The initial meeting to obtain the quote went great. They were punctual, pleasant and professional. The quote took longer than expected, but they provided a quote with multiple window choices at different price points. We were very impressed with the window products and the company and really wanted it to work out, but unfortunately, the quote was approximately 25% higher than another we had received from a company generally thought of to be the most expensive for window replacement. We really liked the product and the lifetime workmanship warranty, but couldn't justify that high of a premium for it.

We were very pleased with the job from start to finish. We first met with Erik to define the job and get an initial estimate. Erik was very responsive to our questions regarding materials, design and cost. Over a several weeks, dealing with several contractors, we decided on Craftsmen Home Improvements based on the company reputation, our interactions with Erik, by contacting several references, and of course, cost. Next, we began working with Kim, who helped us decide on project design specitfics, such as using shakes and trim boards for accents, siding color and interior wood trim color. Once all of the design issues were completed, there was a 6-8 week lag time before the project acutally started. The window replacement started first and lasted about 5 days. Tom, Jim and Ben did an excellent job installing the new windows. We did have one issue with the stained color of the window jamb extensions, but that was worked out quickly, as new, darker, jamb extensions were delivered at no cost and with no delay. The new windows look absolutely great, and are a beautiful addition to the house. The work on the siding began several days after the start of the windows, and lasted about 6 days. Pat, Steve and crew were always prompt and worked long (12hrs), hot days to complete the job. They were professional, neat and hard working. There were several minor changes made during the job , but those were handled quickly by the crew, and again, at no additional cost. Pat was always available for any questions or issues. The siding, soffits and facia look great! After the completion of the job, Dan made sure every aspect of the job was handled to our satisfaction and he wanted to make sure we were delighted with everything that was done (we were). Overall, we have a very positive impression of the quality of the work done and the value we have added to our home. Craftsmen Home Improvements did wonderful job, and we recommend them to any homeowners considering similar improvements We have also had many compliments from our neighbors about how great our house looks!

It went beautifully. Their service was outstanding across the board. Every person on their team--Jim the estimator and roof expert, Joan who coordinated the scheduling and communication, Matt and Elmer who headed a great roofing/insulation crew, and Troy the electrician--were all exceedingly professional and attentive. It was evident throughout the process, that customer satisfaction is their top priority. We had a minor snag with our fan, and everyone was on top of it. Without missing a beat, the team exchanged it for us and Jim, himself, personally installed the replacement. My husband and I have had a parade of contractors come through our home over the years, and we'd give Craftsmen highest marks. We felt like they considered us a member of their family.

A+ for service, quality of work done, and total professionalism. Hail damaged our whole roof, and Craftsmen was 1 of 3 companies that gave estimate for project, coming in the middle of the 3. By far the most pleasant and knowledgeable salesman, total & timely contact, why they even contacted the insurance company with their invoice & processed the shingle warranty for me so I didn't have to bother!

They arrived on time, we're professional, quick, and cleaned up after they were done. No complaints...Excellent job.

Craftsmen did a great job! Although their quote was a little bit higher than some of the other quotes I received, their estimate was the most thorough and Jim brought up a number of issues I hadn't considered. Since the shingles I selected, as well as Craftsmen's labor, are warranted for 50 years, I can rest easy knowing I won't need to worry about this anymore. Everyone at the company was professional and very easy to work with. The office was very good about providing information and answering my questions and the project ended up being completed in less time than I anticipated. All in all, my finished roof and the gutters look great and I would definitely choose them again.

Jim from Craftsman visited our home June 2011 to provide a detailed roofing estimate after the Minneapolis tornado last year. At the time, we were actually living out of state on a temporary work assignment for my job so Jim was very flexible in scheduling time to meet with us when we were physically in Minnesota and working with us via phone/fax as needed to complete an accurate estimate including making changes for us to our estimate as we added and subtracted items. Jim also worked with our insurance company, as some of their measurements were not accurate resulting in underpayment for the dimensions of the roof (ie did not cover enough material to complete the job). Once we had a signed contract with Craftsman, they worked again with us on scheduling our work for a time when we could physically be in Minnesota to oversee their efforts. Their team showed up on the dates and times they committed to and were friendly with us when we asked questions on how the work was proceeding. After they completed the work (they spent 2 days on the job), we received a follow-up call from their office manager to make sure we were happy with the work and later a second follow-up letting us know when the Minneapolis inspection had been completed. We chose Craftsman as our contractor on outstanding customer service throughout the process. They were not the lowest bid we received, but they submitted the most detailed estimate where we felt we would not get caught up in hidden cost later in the process. They did a great job for us. We have a new roof on both house and garage and we are very pleased with the results.

I had an energy assessment done - the rep used an infrared camera to find the spots where heat loss was occurring--and as a result of the estimate and discussion with the Craftsmen rep, I had them add better sealing and insulation to my attic crawlspace. I used coupon through Angie's List, and received a 10% discount as well, so I thought the value was excellent. The office staff stayed in touch, the workers arrived on time and provided covers and drop cloths that protected my home interior from the blown insulation. Overall, the experience was excellent, and I felt I got excellent service and value.

The crew arrived on time ( as opposed to getting a 4 to 8 hour to have a range of other service providers). Very pleasant and knowledgeable to work with. Explained work in detail. Love the look and operation of the new windows!

Dos: Contact Craftsmen Home Improvements, Inc. Don'ts: Don't hesitate to call them for estimates on any work you need done around the house. I would recommend them in a heart beat. No Problems whatsoever!.

Craftsmen did a nice job replacing our basement bedroom windows. We asked for help replacing our windows without losingl glass area and they recommended a local company (Lindsay) that makes quality windows with a lifetime warranty. They worked with Lindsay so that large enough custom casement windows were able to be made that fit perfectly into the existing frame so that nothing structural needed to be re-done on the home. The measurements were good and the installation went well. Crafstmen provided professional service and were willing to walk us through each step so that we fully understood what we were ordering and how the installation was going to work.

They were scheduled too far out to do the job we needed done right away.

Matt and the crew were superb. They were professional, worked incredibly hard, and did a fantastic job replacing my roof. The roof looks great and I have already inquired with them about some additional work. A neighbor, who is a realtor, also commented to me on their professionalism and how great the new roof looks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Craftsmen Home Improvement, Inc. is a company that one enjoys working with because they truly care about satisfying the customer's needs. There were times when it took some discussion and give-and-take to find an acceptable solution, but there was no doubt in my mind that we would find a solution, and we did. Jim Kosloski is one of those people who make you feel that no matter what the problem is, it will be solved. He empowers the client and relies on the client to recognize it and respond with trust. His service willingness is always apparent. When a cedar strip was needed for the drip edge, he found it. When I commented that it would n't look good in the black around it, he found the right paint and painted it. When he noticed a scuff around one vent, he climbed up and touched it with some of my old house paint. And on top of all this I asked him to find the subcontractors himself and deal with them, which he did superbly, freeing me of the hassle. Since we didn't know the cost of every aspect of the job we agreed that some things would be left TBD. We did that and were able to come up with mutually satisfactory agreement there, also. Of course you have to pay well when you want something extra to be done, but with Craftsmen you know that you will get it done right. Every appointment made by any of the Craftsmen people was kept or modified promptly, and most critical repairs were checked and verified with observations and photographs. Throughout the process of formulating the agreement and carrying out the work, I was in touch with Joan Giesler, the schedule control and communications director, I would say, a woman with superb administrative skills that made me feel like I could reach anyone any time I wanted and any problem I had would be promptly addressed. Finally, I got to work a little with the owner of the company, Dan Bydlon, who made sure all issues were resolved to my satisfaction.It was apparent to me from our discussion that Dan works first for customer satisfaction and then for the prosperity of his business. That is, I think, the reason that his company rates highest in Angie's List and why it will stay there for as long as he and his team run it. I would recommend Craftsmen Home Improvements, Inc. very highly to anyone with a roofing project in mind.

I can't say enough positive things about Craftsmen Home Improvements. You can see by the long list of jobs we've had them tackle, they are a company who provides EXCELLENT customer service. Everyone involved in the company - from Dan Bydlon, Jim, Eric, Joan, to the guys on the jobsite - they are patient, detailed, and truly want to make sure their customers are happy. Our projects were completed over a long period of time (because we take forever to make decisions on color, materials, etc.) and Dan was absolutely happy to answer our (many) questions - no pressure, no worries. The roofing project went smoothly, quickly and as expected. Since there was snow on the ground when they roofed, they sent back team members to roll our yard and collect any stray nails in the Spring to prevent any injuries to our small children. When our gutters were installed, their team member consulted with us, talked us through the pro's and con's and made sure we were comfortable with the drainage plan for our home. The siding project was done the following winter, and was a bit of a challenge. Done in a MASSIVE snowstorm, the crew worked right thru most of it. Though the completion of the siding had to take place in two follow up sessions, the team was there when they said they would be, and cleaned up when they were done. We had a couple of hiccups along the way - our siding arrived and the painted finish was damaged by the delivery service / driver. The lights we had selected were not able to be mounted on the "boxes" they installed into the siding. And we've had some touchups needed on the painted siding. I point out these items not to complain about the quality of the project - rather just the opposite. In each case, the Craftsmen team stepped up to take care of these items - even the ones that were not technically "their fault", like the delivery of the siding. We've always found that in construction projects like these, you never know what you will find when you get started - things happen. And our fear is always - will the contractor stand behind their promises? Craftsmen Home Improvements has stood behind their word in every case, and have followed thru to make sure the items were completed, and completed well. Which is why we called on Craftsmen to do our insulation project. Jim showed us where we had thermal issues with an infrared camera, and looked in our attic to assess our situation. We found out we were VERY short of insulation, which was likely the cause of our upstairs temperature issues and ice dams on our roof. Once the new insulation was added (a very painless process, complete in half a day, and thoroughly cleaned up afterwards), we noticed immediately that our upstairs was more comfortable in both cold and hot weather. All in all, we will definitely recommend and use Craftsmen Home Improvements again.
