I purchased a Crowd Cut coupon for three cleanings by Cottage Care thinking that it would be nice to have help with the house cleaning while our house is on the market. We have three kids, work full time and I thought this may save us some time and stress. My initial phone call was to an out-of-state call center. They helped to outline the specific rooms to be cleaned, types of floors, special requests, etc and to schedule the first cleaning (mid August 2011). They also said that the local store would be calling to set up the last two cleanings. The first cleaning went off without a hitch. We left the key in the mailbox and they came while we were at work. I'm not sure what time they arrived or how long they were here. The local store never called us so I started calling them in early September (the coupon was to expire mid Sept). They closed at 4:30 and I wasn’t able to catch them, so I started leaving messages asking if I could book any Friday in September. John (local manager) would call back, but would leave a message simply saying that he was returning my call. We played phone tag for about 4-5 calls. The coupon was now about to expire and I wanted to get something scheduled so I called the national call center and was transferred to the manager (last name of Christ). He was very helpful and immediately sent an email to John. John called the following work day apologizing and saying that they’ve been extremely busy with the coupon expiration date coming up, which is understandable. He was very nice and we set up the last two dates, which were after the expiration date, but since we’d already had our first cleaning, he was okay with this. The second cleaning went okay, except that they didn’t do the laundry room floor (sweep and mop). There were some laundry baskets along the wall, but even the walkway wasn’t touched. This was frustrating because we had an Open House scheduled for the next day. I had called and left a message for John asking him to put a note on our account to 1-please clean the rooms that we agreed upon, 2-if they don’t, please leave a note explaining why or don’t take all of the tip that I left out for them. Although I didn’t request for them to call me back, I would think that the manager would be concerned by this message. The third cleaning was yesterday. Same format as the previous cleaning– we left the key in the mailbox and they came while we were at work. As before, I left a note for them on the kitchen counter asking them to get the cobwebs by the kitchen ceiling (missed last time) and to remember to clean the laundry room floor. (I made sure that all of the baskets were off of the floor). I let them know that their tip would be mailed. The cobwebs were gone, but again, the laundry room wasn’t touched! Since we walk through the laundry room to get to our garage, this is a high traffic area. Again, very frustrating because we have another Open House today. We have a dark colored wood headboard that obviously wasn't dusted. I plan on mailing a tip because the rest of the house was clean, but it won’t be as much as I would’ve been willing to give them if they had just done the entire job, aka laundry room! Overall, this experience didn’t save me time. I would not have used them a third time, except that I really needed the help and the cleaning was already scheduled. Their website has raving reviews from around the country, but I was very disappointed. I would not recommend Cottage Care.
