Donnie and his team were absolutely wonderful! My husband and I recently moved into a small 1920s bungalow in Minneapolis and are doing some minor restoration projects. The living room and dining room were both high on the priority list, with their dingy walls in odd colors, 1990s popcorn ceilings, and white-painted crown molding - a far cry from the original beauty of the house. I contacted Donnie via Angie's List and talked to him on the phone the same day, and we set up an in-home consultation for that night. He was very helpful in talking over the scope of the project, and he suggested a faux wood finish to match the crown molding to the rest of the original wood trim (a great idea that we never would have thought of). He sent a quote within a couple of days, and helpfully explained and re-worked the quote a couple of times when I changed my mind about the scope of the project and then changed it back, and he even offered a discount because of the confusion (which was not his fault at all!). And, he was able to fit our project in on short notice.
The work began as scheduled, and the two-man team was very friendly and considerate of our space. They meticulously covered the wood floor and minimized dust as much as possible. They even scrubbed our front sidewalk when they tracked some dust outside. I had a couple of questions throughout the project, and Donnie was very easy to get in touch with, answering phone calls and emails within hours, if not minutes.
We did run into one hurdle, but Donnie and his team handled it extremely well. The original plan was for them to dry-scrape the popcorn ceilings and retain some of the texture at about half the cost of full popcorn removal, but the popcorn began to delaminate, making this impossible. They ended up doing a full popcorn removal, which added a couple of days to the work time. I offered to pay more than the quote since the scope of the project had increased so dramatically, and Donnie suggested that we increase the price by about $120, which was an extremely small increase given the amount of extra work.
The project was finished yesterday, and it is just beautiful. The faux wood finish is identical to our existing wood trim, and makes the space look how it was originally meant to at a fraction of the cost of removing all the molding, stripping layers of lead paint, and re-staining it. The paint was meticulously applied, with gorgeous crisp lines, and they even cleaned up some poorly-done edges left by a previous paint job. We could not be happier with the result!
He took the doors to his shop for repair.
When I got them back they were re-stained, smoothed, with all the cracks magically gone and a part of one door that had been badly damaged repaired with almost no trace of issue.
Would I use him again? Hells yes.
Once was nailed down a week for the work he kept in contact. He and his Team arrived on time. I had some concerns about the color of one of the rooms and he took the time to counsel me about options and even brought another color option to compare to the original choice
His Team did an outstanding job. Patrick, the project manager, did a great job of keeping me appraised of the project. They finished on time and on budget.
I would definitely use Donnie and his Team again in the future.
Believe me when I say this, Donnie KNOWS what he's talking about when he helps you with exterior paint colors. We had gone to a hardware store, and picked out some paint-chips, not realizing the colors we had chosen are not really house colors, lol. Donnie knew what colors we really wanted, and he went to all the extra work of painting blotches on the back of our house, to show us our colors versus what he thought we wanted. He was TOTALLY right. The house color we actually wanted, was the original house color Donnie showed us when we were attempting to explain what we wanted. Donnie has just an amazing eye for color.
Once we decided on a color, Donnie and his team worked swiftly. They did an absolute incredible job, and they were all very friendly and hard-working. I honestly wish I could give Brushed Monkey an A+ because they totally deserve it. We love our newly painted house, and even our neighbors take time to tell us how much they love how our house looks.
We would definitely hire Donnie and his awesome team at Brushed Monkey again, and we definitely recommend him to all of our friends and neighbors.
The quality of the work was definitely top-notch. Our house went from looking like a dilapidated shell of a house to the best looking house on the block. They were very good at offering advise when we could not decide on certain details of what we wanted the house to look like. Furthermore, they took it upon themselves to address aspects of our house that we had not even thought of addressing (such as painting the porch and door-stoops).
I cannot overstate how happy I was with Brushed Monkey. I would absolutely have them paint our house again (in 10 years, anyway).
