Mike Bjugstad came out to do an estimate on my chimney after having some stucco fall off due to deteriorating brick behind the stucco on my 1929 home. Mike walked through in detail what caused the brick to deteriorate (water getting in through cracks in the stucco and hitting sandstone which melts away with water and air), my options for repairing the brick either only as far as the water had damaged it, or why I might want to consider doing a full tear down and rebuild of the chimney. He has a very calm demeanor to him and was able to answer any question that I came up with. He explained his ideas for design since the chimney was on the front of my house and a major focal point. I could tell very early that he was definitely a details guy!
The work started on my house a couple weeks after selecting Bjugstad Masonry to do the repair. I shared with Mike my design ideas prior to the work starting and he pointed out some additional details that would make my chimney really stand out. Since the job was a rather major job, he ended up working with his former business partner at Bechard Masonry, who also happened to be named Mike.
The Mike's (as they became known as at my home) were incredibly professional. They were always both at my house between 6:30-7:00 AM daily and would typically stay until between 5:00-6:00 PM. They would get everything ready so when 8:00 hit, if they had to make noise, they were ready to go. They always cleaned up at the end of the day as if they were never there and also took very good care of my home when weather hit during the project.
As they were going through the rebuild of the chimney, they were very easy to talk with about design ideas as either they would think of something that would look nice, or if I had something specific that I wanted to see. They rolled with EVERY idea I tossed at them and gave me their ideas that would make my idea stand out even more. Adding to the detail, I had a chimulator added to one of my fireplaces and they noticed that one chimney cap was stainless steel and the other was black. They insisted that they match and searched the town for another stainless chimney cap to match my chimulator. Who would have known that it would be tough to find a plain stainless chimney cap?!?
I am so incredibly happy with the work these guys did. Their attention to detail, explanation of the process, and willingness to do extras that I would ask for were incredible. These guys are true artists and amazingly hard workers! I would recommend them for any masonry job and already have been referring them. This has to have been the best construction experience that I have ever had while owning a home. They made my old home a true focal point on the block.
