Looking at the center of the rooms I had done, the wood and craftsmanship are excellent. Looking at some detailing on stairs and around the perimeter of the rooms, it left a lot to be desired aesthetically. The hideous quarter round placed around the rooms over the baseboards was something that bothered me for years (see pics) IMO, It just cheapened the look of a quality floor. If the need of a 1/4 round shore rail been explained to me during our talks, I probably would have not had the work done. There was also some less than top notch craftsmanship in some Brazilian cherry stairs made for an area that steps down to a sunken living room. See pics.

Gary and his crew are always friendly, courteous, efficient, and never leave a mess behind. I can confidently turn them loose in my rental property with my renters living there and do all the communication from afar, and they do a perfect job every time. I’ve had one complete large new installation done by them, had a large area of repair done (that matches the existing 1960 old wood floor seamlessly,) and had them refinish 3 properties. I won’t use anyone else. The ease of dealing with Gary and his crew, combined with the quality and price, make me a happy customer. Oh, and Gary is dog friendly, too, which is helpful.

Great! Gary and his crew sanded and varnished the birch floors in my 1909 house. they did a great job. After talking with Gary, I decided to go with the low VOC water-base polyurethane. the floors look beautiful. I was actually really done with the whole orange look on the old floors and now the wood grain shows up and they are beautiful!. they are really busy at Aura so it took awhile to schedule them, but once we set the date, they were prompt and professional. They were done in 1 1/2 days - i3 bedrooms, hallway and closets. I would definitely recommend them.

I hired Aura to refinish the floors in my new home after getting bids from a few flooring contractors. Gary scheduled a bid right away and was super friendly from the beginning. I decided to hire Aura based on the great price as well as Gary's friendliness and responsiveness. I felt he really cared about getting my floors done right. Due to complications with my closing, I had to delay the start date for several weeks. Gary was very accommodating and assured me he'd fit it in (though as you can tell from the other reviews, they have no shortage of work). Gary and Chris worked on the floors and had them done on the date expected. They were a pleasure to have around the house and communicated with me and my dad very well while the work was in process. The work is now done and it looks wonderful. I would hire Aura again in a heartbeat!

Gary and Chris installed wide plank wood flooring in our 1940's house that has had a few additions over the years which created many odd angles. Gary knew exactly how the floor should be laid to avoid threasholds and blend the passageways to unify the house. We are very pleased with the way the floor has been laid.

While installing, everyday they were very considerate how they carried the wood throughout the house to avoid marking my walls, careful about using the wood as resourceful as possible which created less waste and nicely cleaned up afterwards. Gary and Chris had patience answering all my questions, even repetitive ones. I enjoyed learning the process of laying the floor.

Gary's friendly personality made this experience enjoyable and not a stress.

Gary Poole is highly skilled at installing and refinishing wood floors. All the the old and the new flooring matched. He was able to refinish the black water damaged areas in the kitchen. All was done on schedule. Overall very professional.

The absolute truth is, i'm very reluctant to give Gary another glowing review.... He is so busy this job took months to schedule.. So i'm thinking about telling everybody what a terrible job he does,

Seriously i have never worked with a better craftsman. He tells you what he will do and then he does everything and more than what he says.

His work is artistic and he is a pleasure to deal with.

We purchased a 60s house with carpet in all rooms. After ripping out the carpet ourselves, we learned there was beautiful oak hardwood in the bedrooms and plywood in the hallway. After talking to many, many flooring companies, we were referred to Gary at Aura. Gary quoted us a very good rate, got us fit into the schedule BEFORE we moved in (which was a stretch!), and did a beautiful job.
On the date of service, Troy arrived on time. He was very polite, talked me through the whole process, worked with me to talk through any potential concerns and then got started. He worked VERY hard all day, taking few breaks and getting a massive amount of work done. He left after around 8 hours. Gary returned the next day to finish the job and was also very personable and prompt. He was able to determine the next best steps for the hallway flooring, and promised to book us as quickly as possible to finish the full job.
The floors turned out absolutely perfect. We couldn't be happier, both with the service and the results.
We will refer him to our friends as he was referred to us, and will absolutely use him again anywhere possible.
Note: Gary is a bit hard to get a hold of, preferring phone over email... however, he always returned my calls within a few days.

Contacted Gary to come to the house and provide an estimate on the work - about 250 sq/ft total space. Some other floor finishers had told us that the floor that was under carpet for more than 30 yrs was beyond a simple sanding/refinishing. Talking with Gary, he felt only a couple of floor boards really needed replacing and the sanding/refinishing should come out fine for everything else.
He had an opening in his schedule from a job that got moved out later and was able to start the job within a week or two of the estimate. Gary really seemed to know what he was talking about, knew what was possible and what could be done to handle some rough spots in the floor. His references checked out, his price was good, so we signed up with his crew.
The crew was at the house promptly at 8am as stated and they did a nice job of sealing off other areas of the house and got to work on the sanding and replacement of 3 or 4 floor boards. They finished up the sanding and put down the initial finish coat by mid-afternoon. All the while the crew was working in the house, they were polite and very easy to talk with and answered any questions we asked.
The crew was out again at 8am the next morning to apply the remaining two finish coatings and install a couple of transition pieces to match up with bathroom tile and the kitchen/dining room entry. They were done by early afternoon.
We tied an out-of-town trip with the couple/three days we needed to stay off the floor to allow it to dry and harden before moving any furniture back into the room. When we left, the floors were wet with the final coating. So it really wasn't until we returned three days later that we got the chance to see the real finished product. The floor and hallway were amazing and better than we could have imagined. (we had been told by others the floor was a lost cause)
Gary and his crew did a most wonderful job on our floors and knew what he and his crew were capable of doing with the rough spots we had. (past tense now). The crew was great, their work was great and would never hesitate to have them come back for another floor project. Over all we were more than satisfied with the job and have only good things to say about it. Thanks Gary and your crew.

They did a beautiful job. They were very clean and courteous. They made the bidding process very easy. Next week we will be using them to re-do all of our upstairs floors as well.

It went very well. Gary and his associate came in and installed the new Brazilian cherry wood floors before we moved in back in 2007. 6 years later, its still holding and looks beautiful. Which is why I felt compelled to write this report. Better late the never. There were a couple of issues that I remember, but Gary addressed them fairly enough. One of them was the baseboards, which are bound to break when install wood floors. He replaced what he could. overall, Gary did a great quality job and it was smooth and hassle free. I will definitely be calling Gary for my next hardwood flooring project as I have sold the house I am in now. btw - guess what helped sell the house? hint - The awesome Brazilian cherry floors!

Gary was very professional and courteous, he provided ideas to help us get the most value out of the work that was being done and he was mindful of our budget. All work was completed beautifully and right on time. This project couldn't have happened at a worse time with the region's recent storm activity but Gary still trudged along and got the job done. Our home was clean and he was thoughtful in taking extra precaution to protect areas from dust. We'd recommend Gary to anyone.

I had been a prior customer of Aura when I had floors in my old house refinished. I was really happy with the service, price, and outcome of that job, so I didn't hesitate to contact them again when I wanted to install new hardwood floors in my new house. When I contacted Gary, he was courteous and professional and came to do the estimate soon thereafter. His estimate was fair and within my expectations, so I didn't feel the need to get other estimates since I trusted him from the last job. We arranged to have the installation occur when I would be on vacation. Gary and his crew also removed the old carpeting, installed shoe, and refinished the exiting wood floor in my kitchen. The match to existing wood floor was seamless--you wouldn't know that it wasn't from the same installation. It was great coming home to a transformed house--the work was high-quality and has made a huge difference in my enjoyment of those areas of the house.

Gary is kind and responsive. The floors were installed as planned. He was very accommodating and cleaned up very well when finished. His sincerity and experienced knowledge made this an easy project from our end.

Gary did a great job refinishing my hardwood floors. This is 100 year old duplex. Not sure when the floor was last done. Pretty ruff shape. Gary was very pleasant and professional. He was punctual and a hard worker. Floors look great. I'm keeping his name on file.

Beginning with our first phone contact, owner Gary was sincere, knowledgable, and pleasant to work with. He was also very responsive to our questions and requests, and gave us some good suggestions for the job. His colleague David, did a masterful job installing the flooring. We couldn't be happier with their work and with their customer relations. Although I don't shop strictly based on price, their cost was competitive with the other companies we received estimates from. Highly recommended.

We recently bought a house that mostly had hardwood throughout but had one room with carpet instead. We wanted full hardwood, and got estimates from two companies. Aura's was about $1,000 lower than the other company's, and they could begin work a lot sooner, so we went with them.
Gary gave me some helpful advice both on choosing the grade of wood (he suggested that B-grade is actually a lot prettier than A-grade, because there's more variation in color) and finish (he suggested water-based over oil). His employees did a great job; the floors look absolutely fantastic. While they were working I asked if they could add on a closet (the floor in that closet had never been finished, and I wanted them to sand and finish just that tiny area) and they said they could add that on for $30.
Everything was done when it was supposed to be with one exception -- the Bagster they used to dispose of the old carpet didn't get picked up promptly. After reading the reviews for the Bagster service, though, I'm not going to blame Aura for that one...

We are very happy with the whole process from start to end.
