Doug Tapio, the owner, was wonderful to work with! Great work ethic and responsive to communications and questions. We are so pleased of how everything came together. Our home looks amazing.

We were very happy with the quality of work and outcome by Aspen/Doug.  Their work is amazing - we even recommended them to our neighbors and they ended up choosing Aspen as well for their kitchen remodel.

Aspen Building Contractors replaced cabinets, new countertops, flooring, lighting, backsplash, etc.  - basically everything in our kitchen was replaced and Aspen handled it all.

Doug is very patient and relaxed - at times almost too relaxed! - but he is not pushy at all with his services.  His crew is amazing as well - very professional and they all take pride in their work.  They do not cut corners just to get the job done.  There were a couple times when one of his crew actually provided additional ideas to us (some of them saved money), but it just shows that they treated the job like it was their own remodel.

Very Good would recommend to others

I would love to give Aspen a higher grade but unfortunately, I cannot.  Our architect (who knew Aspen) had specified tile on the side of the garage facing our house to drain water around the structure instead of through (which had undermined the floor in our old garage).  They talked us into a PVC pipe drain underneath the garage and it has never worked as promised.  Also, the concrete floor in our garage was not specified correctly to drain water out of the garage.  The consequences?  I now have water standing in my garage every spring.  My husband's numerous emails to discuss this have gone unanswered. We are very disappointed.

Good for a few delays

I contacted Aspen Building Contractors as they were doing work at a neighbor's house.  I needed some minor renovation in a basement bathroom and hoped - since they were working in the area - they could help me out.  (Of note, I had contacted other contractors on Angie's List who were not interested in such a small job.)  Sure enough, Doug replied promptly, worked within my budget and timeframe, and did an excellent job.  Their craftsmanship, timeliness, and neatness exceeded expectations.  Highly recommended.

He was very responsive and accommodated our schedules. The consultation went fine and we discussed a kitchen remodel. We are going to go with a provider who is more designed focused rather than construction oriented.

First phase of a master bath remodel. Tiling, plumbing, some fixtures and ceiling work. Quality sub-contractors and owner was on site every day to check work. Responded to calls, emails and texts quickly.

The provider was very nice, timely in scheduling the appointment.  Upon arrival thought, he indicated that to get the 3D drawning the Angie's list promised in the deal, it would be another $225 as he had to have another resouce come to do the work.  Apparently there was some mis-understanding with Angie's List on what could actually be provided.
He made some measurements, talked through some options and then left. He sent the hand-drawings in the mail a week or two later (within the timeframe he indicated he would send them).
I appreciated his honesty about the situation and would consider using him again.

Got Angie's deal for a kitchen design from Aspen Builders, my first step in trying to
figure out what to do with my tiny kitchen. We've needed a complete remodel for a long time, but I was paralyzed by not knowing how to begin. Doug asked questions about how much we wanted to spend and what we expected. He had lots of great suggestions which helped me to see big possibilities on a budget. He was very patient, considerate and respectful and explained all of the ins and outs of the remodeling process.
His design was terrific! Suddenly it looks like there is hope for our little space.
We just got the drawings a few days ago and we still need some time to live with them and imagine the outcome, so we haven't made any decisions yet. The biggest drawback that I can see is that it will take nearly 3 months to complete. That's a long time to have to wash dishes in the bathtub!
Over all, this phase has been a very positive experience.

Good plan developed. Went with another contractor due to price.

We like them, they came with the design for the project, they listen and they are willing to modify base on our feedback, that part went well. The construction went okay, they have a good subcontractor and we were pretty pleased with them, they might gonna come back to do our bathroom.

It was a huge project; I feel like we have a whole new house! The entire experience was excellent. I have only good things to say about every single part of it. I love it!

Fabulously.  The carpentry is very precise, the work was completed quickly, and clean up was thorough.  I'm picky about my carpentry, and at no point did I find myself questioning their techniques or work.  Everything was square, level and plumb -- even though this old house itself isn't always those things.  There was no damage done to drywall around the windows -- even though casing had to be removed to get to the windows.
Windows were removed in the morning, new ones fitted and sealed before they went home at night.  The only time the house was open to the world was while the carpenters were working.  We were dealing with a bumblebee infestation in our front yard at the time, so this had particular importance to us.
During the process of the project, ants were discovered in one bedroom window frame.  As a result, we decided to replace the North entry door to the house.  This did not slow the project at all.
The house has a painted cedar shake exterior.  Very, very few shakes were damaged during the installation of the windows (a feat in and of itself), and the outside fitment was precise enough that almost no paint touch up was required.
We were so pleased with the work, that we will always call Doug first on any future remodeling.

Doug is great to work with.  We had a basic idea of how we wanted our kitchen to look but had some questions as to how to make it happen.  He listened carefully to our ideas and made suggestions when necessary.  He was able to work around some surprises (strange wiring and ducting and an old stove vent that had been blocked by a subsequent addition) and was able to make everything happen just as we wanted it to.  He has terrific sub-contractors and suppliers who do great work.  He will manage almost every detail if you need him to or let you do as much as you want on your own.  He is on time, reliable and there are no surprises.  The only cost overruns we incurred were changes we added mid-project, so they were of our doing, not his.  I felt very comfortable having him and his subcontractors come and go from my house when I was not home or if my kids were home alone.    He also provides a detailed timeline of when each phase of the project will be completed and when you have to have decisions made (appliances chosen, materials selected, etc.) so there are no surprises and you aren't rushed having to make last minute decisions.  

We used Doug for another project several years ago and he was the first person we called when we started planning this project.  We only got one other verbal bid (much higher for the same thing) and had only one other company come out to look.  We didn't even pursue a bid with them as we liked Doug's approach much better.  We highly recommend Aspen Building Contractors!!

There's no question, they were excellent. Their price was wonderful. I can't say enough about the person who oversaw the project. They could talk to the insurance company in the language they understood.

We had a very pleasant experience working with Doug from start to finish. He carefully listened to our needs and wishes and provided valuable feedback when preparing the initial design. During the construction phase, he was very involved, showing up almost daily to check the work of the sub-contractors. The subs he brought on site were all courteous, professional and skilled. He was very flexible when presented with requests for changes on our part (to move some windows and enlarge the shower beyond the initial design) and kept the add-on charges to a reasonable amount. In the end, we have an addition and a new bathroom that we absolutely love. The project was done within budget and on-time. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Doug and his team and would not hesitate to hire him again. In fact, we have already given his name to several friends and acquaintances, one of whom has already selected him for a kitchen remodel.

ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET. IF THERE WERE PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS WITH WORK BEING DONE, DOUG PATIENTLY AND PROMPTLY LISTENED TO THE ISSUES AND MADE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. HIS SUB-CONTRACTORS (PARTICULARLY HIS ELECTRICIAN, SHEET ROCKER, TILE LAYER, AND GENERAL CONSTRUCTION GUY) WERE OUTSTANDING, IN THAT THEY WERE COURTEOUS, KEPT THE AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE, AND PRODUCED SUPERB QUALITY WORK. DOUG WAS FREQUENTLY PRESENT AT THE SITE TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE JOB AND TO ACTUALLY DO SOME WORK IF NEEDED, AND HE WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE BY PHONE WHEN WE NEEDED TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM.
