It went quite well. Dave is very personable and professional. He explained things well and kept me well-informed. As I put things back, I have found that my oatmeal box does't fit anywhere. The box is too big. Other than that, I am very satisfied with the results. I highly recommend Dave to everyone.

We met with 3 contractors before settling on Dave.  All 3 contractors did designs and estimates.  Dave's estimate was the middle of the three.  It was his design work that sold us.  His attention to detail gave us an indication that he was meticulous.  Our instincts were right.
Dave, and his subs, took their time and did the job right.  Dave is a seasoned remodeler so nothing that came up threw him.  As with any older home remodel, there were unexpected wiring issues, insulation problems, crumbling drywall.  He'd seen it all before and took all the challenges in stride. 
Dave is really an artist.  That showed in his design but also in the way he did the work.  He has subs he has worked with a long time and they all understand that Dave is picky and they have to be on their game to meet his standards.
It's like this was his own house.  He would point things out and recommend changes during the construction because he'd see something he thought would bother me later and wanted to address it now.  What was amazing is that many of these small adjustments cost Dave time but he didn't charge us extra when the final bill came.  He made the adjustments just because he wanted us to be happy with the job.
Our job took a long time.  Dave does most of the carpentry work himself.  He has subs for flooring, electrical, plumbing and painting.  Because both Dave and his subs are primarily one-person shops, we did have delays when their other jobs got extended.  As it turned out, though, the delays didn't hurt the project because we did have one special order component that would have delayed the whole thing anyway.  Both Dave and his subs became members of our family.  It was always a pleasure to have them around.

The whole process went quickly, but for the week waiting for the cabinets to arrive- it put the schedule off for about a week. 

They did fantastic work.  Dave is very trustworthy and I would certainly send him repeat business.

Dave did an awesome job. He is an artisan and completed most of the detail work himself. He did a lot of the little things that other contractors either seem to avoid or don't understand. He even fixed a few problems that were the result of inconsistent work previously performed by other contractors. Dave used quality subcontractors and managed them very efficiently and effectively as well. Dave followed through with everything he promised and stayed on schedule. For us, it was easy. He earned our trust and we knew we could leave the house every day and return to not only see progress that met our expectations, but a broom clean environment as he is very aware that a full remodel can be very disruptive to a family's daily routines. We'd highly recommend Dave. He's a good guy and highly skilled. Finally - He didn't oversell which we appreciated. He listened to what we wanted and created a practical design. The remodel enhanced our kitchen dramatically, but the design was kept clean, simple and fit the style of the house.

They were good. We got what we wanted and what we paid for. He did a good surfacing job. We like the effect on it.

Dave is a master craftman himself and did beautiful work on the carpentry and other items. His subs did very good work,  showed up on time, and were friendly and professional. Almost all of the work was completed in two months, following a calendar that gave us at the start of the project.. We are very happy with the result that transformed our 1980's kitchen into an attractive, stylish kitchen that is consistent with our 1924 house. But the highlight of the project was working with Dave who is a very positive, hardworking (he often worked late to accommodate our schedules), friendly guy with a good sense of humor.

This is our third project with Dave Oertel.  It is our third because he has done the first two so well.  The project has gone very well despite being much bigger than we had planned.  What we thought would be just replacing some of the wood for cosmetic purposes turned into a rebuilding of the walls of the porch.  Once Dave took off the pieces we wanted to replace he found that there was a bigger rot problem.  He investigated and encouraged us to completely rebuild the walls to remove all problems for the future.  It was a bad surprise but we're really glad that we had Dave there to advise us on the project.  We could have been in a lot of trouble in the near future if we had a contractor who had just done what we asked without looking at the big picture.  The porch looks great and will last a good long time now.  Dave has always been very reliable and has done what he has promised and been there when he said he would be.  We always recommend him and his company to friends.

We are thrilled with our new basement.  It has a much warmer, drier feel and we feel confident that it was done right.  And it really looks great.  Dave took the time to be sure that all water issues were addressed and we feel confident that we have a dry basement.  He gave us great suggestions for changes in layout and helped us plan for the future use of the space and how to best accomplish what we wanted.  He had great ideas that we hadn't thought of.  His experience with remodeling was invaluable because we knew nothing about it when we started out.  His design ideas were great and we love being in the basement now.  What used to be a dark confined space now has a light open airy feel.   His subcontractors were equally great to work with.  Everyone was prompt and there when they said they'd be.

After years of living with bathroom tile that wouldn't look clean, we decided to have the bathroom redone.  Dave and his company had been recommended to us by a friend who had done a major kitchen remodel with him as well as a basement bathroom remodel.  We got a couple of quotes and felt that Dave's quote was fair and he sounded like he knew what he was doing.  We knew nothing about how to get this project done.  We were very pleasantly surprised through the whole process.  He had excellent ideas for improving the bathroom as well as what would look great, but was sensitive for our desire to keep our costs down and spend the money wisely.  He was there when he promised he would be and his subcontractors were equally great to work with.  We have been very happy with the results and the price was well worth it.  Dave is a contractor who stands behind his word.  I have recommended his company to many of my friends.

Dave's workmanship and that of his subcontractors was first rate. Amy did a good job with the design and there were very few surprises . The schedules with the subs was well coordinated and Dave did his best to schedule his work to minimize the disruption that a kitchen remodel creates. I was very pleased with his attention to detail. He fixed things that would never be seen when the project was finished just because it was the right way to do it.

 I would use Artistic Kitchens again and recommend this company to others.

The project went just as they said it would...there were no surprises.  Dave sets up a calendar and his subs know that they need to be there on the days they are assigned.  It flows so well and we knew what to expect every day.  It was wonderful.

I would give them the highest rating. I couldn't be more pleased with everything than what they did for me. I'm pleased with their timeliness, attentive details and communication. I would use them in future. In fact I'm considering using them this summer for another project.

Project was made easier by the people we worked with. Dave is simply amazing!! Couldn't have asked for a more competent group of people to work with. Travertine in shower, tub surface and floor was done beautifully! Cabinets are gorgeous! All glass no frame shower, amazing! No disappointment!! Would use for any future project!!!

all stages of the renovation were completed on time. I was most impressed with Sam's design knowledge and experience. The workers were always pleasant. No matter how messy the work area was, at the end of each work day, the area was left clean. The kitchen and the butler's pantry are beautiful, and the more I use my kitchen the more I love it.

The entire process was fantastic...from the initial consultation to completion. Both Sam and Dave (owners) were very professional and responsive to our wants/needs. All subcontractors were wonderful and we enjoyed meeting/working with them all. Artistic has a great calendar system they use to schedule the entire project and it was amazing how they were able to stick to it. I knew exactly when and what to expect throughout. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Stud Finders is a very professional organization. I appreciate Dave's punctuality, and they provided calendars/deadlines that they stuck to. I am pretty detailed-oriented and fussy about details, and I was never disappointed. They work with very professional subs - both electricians and plumbers. We had a major issue pop up with our heating/cooling unit 5 months after it was installed, and they jumped on it right away and had it fixed almost in 48 hours. We were really appreciative of their responsiveness. Bottom line, they care greatly about "doing the job right" and they are honest, hard working people. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

We were so impressed with the quality of their work and professionalism that we hired them in 2009 for a further project in our home. I found AKC on Angie's list after having three other design firms draw up plans for our project and not being happy with any of them, AKC was our last call (we planned to move if we couldn't get the design we wanted). Sam was the only designer who immediately "got it" she took my list of non-negotiable and beautifully incorporated them into the design. We have a busy family of four with limited space so we needed our kitchen to perform multiple functions while still feeling open and inviting. The design was spot on. Dave is amazing. Hard working doesn't even begin to cover it, he is precise, has a plan, is a true craftsman and fun to have around. He gets so much accomplished in a day it's incredible, but more importantly the quality of the work is top notch. This was a big project, we remodeled the kitchen and finished the basement simultaneously so there were a lot of moving parts, we were given a schedule at the beginning of the project and it was followed very closely. People still cannot believe that they finished on the exact day the schedule said they would be.

The subs are all scheduled at the beginning of the project and are kept to a tight schedule. From tear-out to finish, the project took only 2 months, which I think is amazing. Dave is incredibly easy to work with.....always willing to listen and make necessary adjustments, and his workmanship is top-notch. The hood over the cook-top was initially too low (hit me at eye level and my husband even lower), but Dave raised it and reworked the upper cabinets and no one would ever know. He also installed 2 steel support beams to replace 2 hollow columns that should never have been allowed by a previous re modeler...that was an unexpected surprise, but he dealt with it quickly and efficiently and we're confident it's right now. We enclosed them in the side of a display case that was made to look like a piece of furniture and matches the rest of our cabinetry.

Sam listened carefully to the outline of the project and asked many good design questions. She visited the house with several tile selections to ensure that the look was tasteful and in keeping with the rest of the house. Her design taste is impeccable. Throughout the entire demolition and installation phases of the project, David was exceedingly careful to keep construction "mess" to an absolute minimum. He cleaned the area up thoroughly at the end of every day - he was so very neat, people coming to the house never knew that a construction project was going on! David is a true craftsman. He was very picky about the smallest aspects of the job, and if he had any questions at all on how we wanted something, he made sure we were consulted. The final project turned out just perfect and we love our new master bath!

I called StudFinders on a Wednesday (New Year's Eve to be exact) as our previous company had canceled last minute. I spoke to Dave, co-owner, and explained that we were having a new refrigerator delivered on Saturday and needed to have a cabinet shortened to accommodate the height. I asked if he could come on Friday to perform the work. He asked if he could come same day to review the project to see if he could meet our needs and time frame. Dave arrived promptly and quickly assessed the situation. He took the cabinet doors with him that day and asked if he could come the following day (Thursday/New Year's Day) to complete the job. I was extremely pleased that he would be able to exceed our requested time frame. He arrived on time again on Thursday. The cabinet doors had been shortened perfectly. You could not tell that they had been altered at all. He then spent a few hours shortening the rest of the cabinet. He was very courteous and cleaned up everything before leaving. The price was extremely reasonable, especially considering the last minute nature of the job. Overall I was more than satisfied with the work that Dave performed. The work was flawless and no one will ever be able to tell that the cabinets were altered. I would recommend Dave and StudFinders to anyone seeking quality work at a reasonable price. My husband and I plan to contact StudFinders again should future projects arise.
