QUALITY OF WORK: AVERAGE TO BELOW AVERAGE. NOT A HIGH END REMODELER, DESPITE CLAIMS MADE (HE MAKES A LOT!). QUALITY ISSUES WITH TILEWORK, WALLS/FLOORS (NOT STRAIGHT/PLUMB), SOME PLUMBING. GENERALLY FIXED THINGS WHEN ISSUE RAISED, BUT SOME THINGS WERE RETURNED TO TWICE AND STILL NOT FIXED RIGHT. DISCOVERED MANY MORE QUAL. ISSUES AFTER HE WAS FIRED. OFTEN INEFFICIENT; TAKE TOO LONG TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS, RESULTING IN FIX & RE-DO TAKING LONGER THAN NEC. ASKS FOR CASH BEFORE IT IS DUE, SEEMS TO HAVE CASH MGMT ISSUES. POOR COMMUNICATOR; FEELS HE KNOWS WHAT YOU WANT BETTER THAN YOU DO, WILL MAKE DECISIONS WITHOUT CONSULTING YOU, OFTEN DID NOT HONOR OUR REQUESTS UNTIL WE REPEATED THEM A LOT. PERFORMS NON-CONTRACT WORK WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION, AND EXPECTS PAYMENT. DIDN'T HONOR SOME DETAILS IN ARCH'S SPECS AND IN CONTRACT. SLOPPY WORK HABITS: LOST IRREPLACEABLE PLUMBING PARTS THAT WERE SPECIFICALLY TO BE SAVED; USED OUR STUFF WITHOUT ASKING; OFTEN LEFT A MESS.
Description of Work: NEAL WAS HIRED TO REMODEL OUR MASTER BATH ACCORDING TO ARCHITECT'S DRAWINGS. HE WAS TO PERFORM A COMPLETE DEMOLITION (TO STUDS), THEN ALL ROUGH & FINISH CARPENTRY, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, TILE, CUSTOM CABINETRY, PAINTING. PLUMBING WORK INCLUDED RE-USING THE ORIGINAL BATH, SINK, TOILET BOWL, AND RE-FURBISHING AND RE-INSTALLING OUR VINTAGE SHOWER VALVE. THE JOB WAS EXPECTED TO TAKE 2 MONTHS. HE COMPLETED THE DEMOLITION, FRAMING, AND ELECTRICAL & PLUMBING ROUGH-IN ON SCHEDULE AND WAS PAID 2/3 OF THE 35K JOB. SUBSEQUENT FINISH WORK, PARTICULARLY TILEWORK, TOOK LONGER THEN SCHEDULED AND MUCH OF IT WAS NEVER COMPLETED. (TILEWORK WAS PERFORMED OVER A PERIOD OF 4 MONTHS - SOMETIMES AT A RATE OF 1.5 HOURS PER WEEK - AND NEVER COMPLETED). CLEANUP AT THE END OF EACH DAY WAS INCONSISTENT. THEY LOST OUR VINTAGE SHOWER VALVE, DIDN'T FULLY PROTECT FIXTURES WE WERE RE-USING (TUB, TOILET). WE FIRED NEAL AFTER 6.5 MONTHS AND AN UNFINISHED BATHROOM. ANOTHER BUILDER IS COMPLETING THE JOB.
