Excellent work and advice about the watches. He also repaired two novelty pendulum clocks earlier with excellent results. Very good person to work with and he took the time to talk about the clocks, their function and use in playing a game of chess. One of the watches still runs a bit slow, but he told me about that when I picked it up, why it did, saying he could fix it but it would require quite a lot of work (and, of course, higher cost.) as the hair spring on the balance wheel was weak and would need to be replaced, probably more that the chess clock would be worth when fixed. When I tested the clock, it was slow by less than one minute in two hours, the typical time for a serious chess game. I admire his candor, honesty and workmanship. By the looks of his shop he is a very busy "one man" shop, very courteous and interested in the products. Honest about his abilities and delivers high quality work. Note to Angie's list and potential customers. John Oulette's shop is: Antique Clock and Watch Restoration 10 NW Third Street Osseo, MN 55369. Phone # is correct
Description of Work: Cleaned and repaired chess clock made of two pocket watches with unusual mounting and (original) home-made start/stop mechanism. ($210) Cleaned and repaired two antique (1883) miniature novelty pendulum clocks. He had to do extensive repair on the winding mechanism to add a winding post for a key. The second clock only needed a good cleaning. ($265)

JOHN HELD ON TO ONE CLOCK FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO ANALYZE/DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HE CALLED LATER AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM . HE COULD EASILY HAVE CHARGED ME FOR HIS TIME AND TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED, BUT DID NOT!! I HAD TAKEN THE SECOND CLOCK TO AT LEAST THREE OTHER PLACES WHO TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIX IT OR WOULD HAVE TO SEND IT TO SWITZERLAND (AT A COST OF <300) IN ORDER TO REPAIR IT. JOHN LOOKED AT IT AND SAID "NO PROBLEM!" HE CUSTOM MADE A PART AND CHARGED ME ONLY $50 FOR THE PART AND REPAIR!! HE IS EXCELLENT!! VERY HONEST AND GREAT AT WHAT HE DOES!! I WILL USE HIM AGAIN.
