We perform all types of general auto repair, from major engine repair, brake service, oil changes, heating and air conditioning, tires and alignment, and factory scheduled maintenance.
We have ASE Certified Technicians. Free loaner vehicles available. Easy access to light rail and other public transportation from our shops.
After receiving a very high estimate from another provider, contacted Alexander's for second opinion. The response was quick, and the "immediately needed" work was separated out from the "nice to have" work clearly by the service manager. A repair visit was scheduled soon thereafter, and the work completed in a reasonable time frame. A problem that occurred during the repair was communicated to us immediately, and was fixed without additional charge. We'll be going back to them again soon for work on another vehicle.

We tried this as a specialist to our foreign car. I thought that they did a great job and they gave us good advice in regards to foreign car purchases. It was easy to use them because we just called them and left a message in the evening. We dropped off the car that night. They did the work the next day and we got the car back.

They performed the work quickly and the car runs noticeably better after the repair. Price was about what I paid for the last timing belt 4 or 5 years ago. They also examined the rest of the car and notified me of other items that would require service in the future. We discussed these repairs and they prioritized which were more important based on safety and length of time until a failure might occur.

I was very satisfied with my experience there from start to finish. I brought my Montero in because it was making rattling noises (which I thought were coming from the front axle), and to get the windshield-washer pump replaced. They performed a vehicle inspection and called me. They discovered that the noise was coming from loose heat shields. They also found a nail in one tire, which they fixed; and a slow oil leak from a sealing plug. They very thoroughly explained to me the estimated cost of each repair. I chose not to have the oil leak fixed and they never tried to pressure me to do that. The repairs were done on time, and the windshield-washer repair came in about $60 less than they had originally estimated (it took less labor). I have to say I'm very satisfied with their service and thoroughness, and will go back to them for future repairs.
Description of Work: Alexander's fixed several loose heat shields on my 2000 Mitsubishi Montero; patched a tire with a slow leak, and fixed the windshield washer pump. They also replaced the front sway-bar bushings, which eliminated some clunking coming from the front end.

Fast, fair, professional, all while performing top notch work. Will return again and again.
Description of Work: Performed 100,000 mile tune-up on my 1997 Geo Prizm in September of 2007, replacing plugs, wires, valve covers, and timing belt, belts, and some hoses at a price considerably less than other reputable mechanics. Replaced leaky valve cover and replaced cracked distributor cap in September 2008. Upheld warranty, although I was slightly outside of the warranty period.

I had high hopes for Alexander's. I chose them primarily on the merits of the consistently high feedback they get here. Unfortunately, my experience with them wasn't nearly so positive. When I asked to have the vehicle checked over, as I was going to give it to my son, I was offered a "65-point" check for $100. When I picked up the vehicle, however, I received no completed checklist; instead I was given an estimate which included a number of items I would consider "padding", considering that this is a 20-year-old Volvo: fluid replenishments, brake pads which I'd had changed just a few months prior, new bushings, etc. I feel that I essentially paid them $100 to work up an estimate for services largely not needed & obviously far exceeding the value of the car. I was also charged $75 for their time to troubleshoot the issue of stalling on acceleration, even though they couldn't identify or fix the cause of the problem. FWIW: One evening a few days later I dropped the car off at Borton Volvo, leaving the keys & a description of the stalling problem in their night drop. I'd been told that their service department begins work at 07:30; I received a call the next morning at 07:48 to tell me the cause of the problem and an estimate for repair. The car was finished later that day.
Description of Work: Identify & resolve stalling on heavy acceleration. Conduct 65-point vehicle check.

Response from ALEXANDER'S IMPORT AUTO REPAIR
THE MEMBER RECEIVED OUR MOST THOROUGH LEVEL OF INSPECTION. DURING THIS SERVICE WE GO FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER TO GIVE CUSTOMERS A COMPLETE PICTURE OF WHERE THE VEHICLE STANDS FROM A MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR STANDPOINT. WE SUGGESTED THIS SERVICE DUE TO THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER OUR TECHNICIANS GO THROUGH THE CHECK LIST OUR SERVICE ADVISORS WORK UP AN ESTIMATE FOR THE CUSTOMER BASED ON WHAT WAS FOUND. IT IS NOT CUSTOMARY FOR US TO SUPPLY THIS INTERNAL CHECKLIST TO THE CUSTOMER UNLESS SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED, WHICH IT WAS NOT IN THIS CASE. WITH THIS ESTIMATE THAT WE PASS ALONG TO CUSTOMERS WE TRY TO CLARIFY AND PRIORITIZE WHAT THE VEHICLE WILL NEED TO CONTINUE SAFE OPERATION VS. WHAT SERVICES WOULD BE REQUIRED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO A HIGHER LEVEL. THE MEMBER'S VEHICLE REQUIRED ALL OF THE ITEMS ON THE ESTIMATE THAT WAS PROVIDED TO HIM. ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT THINGS FOR A REPAIR FACILITY TO PERFORM IS DIAGNOSIS OF A PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE WHEN WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. WE ATTEMPT TO INTERVIEW THE CUSTOMER THOROUGHLY IN ORDER TO GAIN AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO MAKE THE CAR ACT UP. IF WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DO SO, WE NEED TO START WITH SIMPLE CHECKS ON SYSTEMS THAT ARE LIKELY TO CAUSE A PROBLEM. WHEN WE RUN INTO A SITUATION LIKE THIS, WE DO OUR BEST TO COMMUNICATE TO OUR CUSTOMERS WHAT WE ARE FACING AND WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT FROM US, BOTH MONETARILY AND FROM A TIME STANDPOINT. WE HAVE TO ADMIT, WE'RE A BIT BLINDSIDED BY OUR FIRST 'F' GRADE; THE MEMBER DID NOT RELATE ANY ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE WE PROVIDED AT THE TIME. THE ANGIE'S LIST FEEDBACK FORM IS THE WAY WE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM, SO WE'RE PLEASED IT EXISTS AND WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO RESPOND. IF THE MEMBER WOULD HAVE RAISED THESE ISSUES WHILE HE OR HIS VEHICLE WAS HERE WE'RE CONFIDENT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE TO HIS SATISFACTION.

Knowing very little about cars, I called Alexander's regarding my VW Passat. My son had been driving it for 5 years with very little maintenance and had made various after market changes to it (in other words, it was a mess). The car had not been running well and needed help. Alexander's did an inspection on the car and let me know what the problems were. Ben went over all the issues and explained why they needed or didn't need immediate attention. From the information I was able to decide whether it was worth it to hang on to the car. I had the work done and Ben kept me informed as they went along. The car now runs very well.

It was great. I called on a Wednesday and was able to drop off the truck the next day. They were thoughtful, courteous, thorough and best of all they fixed it!!
Description of Work: This was our first time at Alexander's. We brought them our truck after two other shops could not find the problem. It was stalling regularly. Alexander's thoroughly checked over the truck and even after they found the problem (idle mixture was off and vacuum leak), they asked if they could keep the truck overnight because the problem was always worse first thing in the morning and they wanted to test it at that time to ensure that the problem was really solved. It was!

Alexander's is very knowledgeable about Volvo's and they had everything complete in 2 days. They even wanted to keep the car longer so they could give it more road time before I picked it up. Ben called me whenever he needed permission to do something and he always explained exactly what the repairs consisted of.
Description of Work: I brought in my 1999 Volvo XC 70 for a "Check Engine" light, inoperable cruise control, and rear hatch problem. I also wanted them to rotate the tires, change the oil and check my heat output (didn't seem like my heater was putting out heat the way it should). They replaced the water pump, changed the timing belt, replaced a tie rod end, changed the spark plugs, replaced a switch in my cruise control and topped off the coolant. They also repaired the rear hatch latch and changed the oil.

Absolutely the BEST experience I have ever had with a repair/service shop. Courteous, responsive, extremely detail-oriented, great communication with what the problem could be, what it is and the approaches to fix it. Very reasonable pricing and a good process for looking at the simplest (and least expensive) potential issues first. And to top it off, the car now runs like BUTTER! The tune-up fairy must have tweaked the timing? I had always thought that Volvos were just noisy, and left it at that. When I drove off the lot, I literally thought my battery had died; that is how quiet and smooth the Volvo was running. I have never wanted to buy lunch for a group of mechanics until now!
Description of Work: They replaced and balanced a new set of tires, inspected the steering system, adjusted the alignment, troubleshot an old problem with a fuse, inspected the rear wiring harnesses, replaced the struts for the rear lift gate and put in a new rear wiper on our 1989 Volvo 240 wagon. Our wagon had been handling very poorly for several months. Other service shops had told us, "That's just how old Volvos drive." I had heard over the years about Alexander's, and this last comment sent me to them to confirm that was the issue. Over the phone, they suggested it was probably bad tires and they were right on the money.

Description of Work: Coolant leak in a 1996 VW Passat. Expected the water pump and called for an estimate and made an appointment. The technician pressure tested the cooling system and confirmed the mechanical water pump and the electric secondary pump (I have a car with 2 water pumps!)were leaking. On a busy pre-holiday weekend day, the service company was willing to inspect our car with less than 30 minutes prior notice. We did not use them this time because they immediately advised that the $400 worth of needed repairs were optional and choosing not to repair would have no impact on safety or performance. Outstanding honesty and service.

We were new in town and missed our reliable service person so we consulted Angie's List. Alexander's was well recommended and reasonably close so we called. They were accommodating on schedule needs, candid in recommending both tires and type of oil change appropriate for our car, and gave my wife a ride home so she didn't have to wait. Altogether an excellent experience in a sometimes challenging area, especially in a new community!
