I love my "new" floors! I was told by a couple of contractors that they weren't worth saving. Paul and Nancy did a beautiful job sanding and finishing them. They took great care in sanding and finishing the stairs and doorways. Fantastic people too work with.

Fantastic. The floors were hiding for 40 years. Dirt, stains and mystery residue. The job went smoothly, even earlier than I had expected. Every was clean and "good to go" when it was done. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks Paul!

They responded to phone calls, showed up on time, gave thorough advice, and followed through on everything. The floors look fantastic and they were fun to work with. I'm very glad I had them do the work.

The owners of 1st Avenue Hardwood Floors, Paul and Nancy came over the next day after I called. They emailed us a quote that night. The property is a 1953 custom owner built two story single family home. The floors are 1and frac12;and quot; oak with what appears to be a water base finish. They did a deep clean, buff and coat of existing oak floors on first and second floor (approx. 1600 sq ft).
It was completed in one day and looks great. We would recommend and use them again!

Nothing but good things to say. Met timeline and estimate, floors look great, Glitsa finish is incredible and worth the extra money. Can't go wrong with Paul and Nancy.

The quality of the work completed was exceptional. New hardwood floors were installed in the living and dining room and the hallway to the bedrooms. The transition from the hallway with new wood to the three bedrooms with the original floors is amazingly seamless. Also, the living room has a bay type window and the new hardwood installed hugs the curved wall.

They are punctual and timely. If they say they are going to be at your house at a certain day and time, they will be there.

Bottom line, the floors are just lovely. Very satisfied.

Paul and Nancy did a wonderful job. The care they showed throughout every step of the process--from the bid to the clean-up-- is hard to find. They treated our house and floors as if they were their own. They were easy to work with, fun, professional, responsive, timely, and skilled. I would highly recommend them.

We've had Paul and Nancy to our house on three different occasions to finish the floors in our 1907 home. We have one bedroom left and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They are prompt and have always been incredibly respectful and clean up after each project. Plus, their pricing is hard to beat. A+

We found Paul and Nancy responsive, very easy to work with. Their work was of the highest quality. Paul came out the same day I called, to give us an estimate. He came prepared with wood and finish samples, thoroughly explaining the pros and cons of different options. He provided information but did not pressure us to make certain choices. Nancy and Paul started the work the following week--were always prompt, professional, and efficient. The floor under the carpeting had never been refinished and had some moisture stains. Still, they made the floors look great. They were even able to remedy some funky areas from previous not-so-great refinishing. We felt the price was very reasonable for the work they did. I recommend them highly!

Work was completed in the week that it was scheduled, despite some working around other service providers in the house at the same time. They did a beautiful job restoring the floors in the house, some of which had been painted over and were damaged from having carpet installed on top of them. Work was done quickly, professionally, and they kept me informed of what they were doing. I spent what I expcted to spend because of the original condition of the floors. The way the floors turned out has added an unbelieveable amount of value to my house!
Great job, if I ever need a touch up on the floors I would definitely contact them again!

It went great, I liked the fact that Paul and Nancy are the people who do the work from start to finish, instead of sub contractors who might not care as much. The quote was very competitive and Paul and Nancy clearly are very knowledgeable and experienced. They prepped the floors and sanded the floors the first day, then returned for another two days to buff and apply more finish. Overall the floors look amazing and I would certainly use them again, you are in good hands with these two

Paul came out the same day to do an estimate and we scheduled the work for the following week. Paul and Nancy were always right on time. Paul thoroughly explained the extent of the work, and additional options/upgrades (wood floor vents, finishes), without a hard sell for things I felt were unnecessary or not affordable at this time. Despite a very thick, dark finish on our 100 year old oak floors, Paul and Nancy worked tirelessly to get through the old finish and expose the beautiful bare wood. We chose to go with a and quot;Swedishand quot; finish upgrade (for durability). The odor was significant during and for several hours following application, but we were warned about it and given suggestions by Paul and Nancy on how to more quickly help the odors dissipate.
The floors turned out beautiful (two initial coats of finish, and a final satin coat). The attention to detail was exceptional, including providing and installing a couple of pieces of 1/4 round moulding that were missing before the work began.
I will contact Paul and Nancy in the future to refinish our stairs and upstairs floors.

"Member, Thank you for your glowing report. As a mom and pop small business, we do all of our own work and we are delighted to see your comments. We sincerely appreciate your attention to the details as well as your going the extra mile to use the long lasting and durable Glitsa Gold Seal System on your 100 plus year old floors. Your choices allowed us to provide you with a superior service that we feel good about and stand behind. Often in the interest of low price, clients lose sight of the bigger picture. With that in mind, know that “the Glitsa Gold Seal System is as durable as it is beautiful – it penetrates deeply and brings out the natural beauty of the wood floor”. We are grateful that you will use us again and strive to meet our client’s expectations. Thanks again, Paul and Nancy – 1st Avenue Hardwood Floors"

The job went very well. The only problem was that I forgot I hadn't left a favorable review! We did find that the carpet runner in the stairs and hallway had been glued down very thoroughly; I was unable to remove it myself, because the runner was so old the fibers gave way before the adhesive did. They were able to remove the runner for me. They did charge extra for that, but checked with me before going ahead and the charges were extremely reasonable. I was very happy with the service, recommend them to my friends, and plan to use them again when I have the floors in the rest of the house rescreened.

The results are always great. One house needed a lot of work (there was even vinyl tile glued down in one room) and the floors looked fantastic afterwards.

They showed up when they said they would and competed the job in a timely fashion. They made some small repairs in areas that were damaged and also re-built a threshold that looked very good.

Unfortunately, the wood grain didn't match up on many of them. A coat of varnish was put onto more of the floor than I would have liked. Very nice people, I'm just not happy with the result necessarily.

Paul and Nancy gave an estimate for the cost of the work. They provided many stain color options and options for finish coats. They performed the floor sanding but left quite a few sanding marks. These became much more evident upon staining the floor. The staining process was a disaster. As an "escape" route, they had left a 5-foot wide swath of unstained floor going through the living room and dining room - then upon exiting the house they did stain that swath, but it did not match the rest of the floor. They left drips and handprints in the stain on the stairs and footprints of stain on the floor. All along they told us that the finish coat would "even out" these multiple irregularities. They applied the finish coat; needless to say, the finish coat made it all look even worse. The floor had to be re-sanded, restained, and refinished. The stairs and railings had to be hand stripped and refinished - all of this at at our own expense. The $2350 we paid as a down payment was never refunded. All in all, a bad experience. We would never recommend 1st Ave Hardwood Floors!

"Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me today. I really appreciate the fact that we were able to get to the other side of the story. I have copied your account manager on this email to inform her of the situation. Please let us know if you would like us to post the response below. Thank you providing us with this feedback, all feedback helps us grow as a company which is a big part of why we have been in business since 1979. However, we found the dollar amount in the report is different than in the contract and verbal agreement. We were asked to leave this job after the first seal coat was put on, and did not receive any other payment other than the down payment. We sanded and stained railings, balusters and stairway treads, with the help of the member to help fit his budget. The stain type and color was picked by the member and the color was also OK’d by the homeowner during the install, which he was a part of. At no point did we hear he was unhappy or uncomfortable with the stain. Sanding marks do exist; they get magnified by stain and the high gloss seal coat. The last two coats, which we were not allowed to put on, (the top coat being a matte finish) would mitigate or hide those marks. In regards to the finger prints, it is a sanding sealer and they get sanded, again we were told to leave before we were able to finish. In regards to “escape route” it was created so we did not leave footprints through out the home. Please refer to our other reports for a more accurate picture of our work."

Paul and Nancy were courteous. Clean up impeccable. Fumes strong for several days necessitating us to vacate house, so I do not suggest work be done in winter. Excellent squeak repair. More sanding marks than I would have expected that did not disappear with the finish as was stated. Overall I am satisfied with the work.
