The "Check Engine" light was on our 2002 VW TDI Beetle. It was late on a Friday night and we did not know if the engine error was serious or not. I phoned the Melrose 1 Stop location to see if they would be able to retrieve the error code from the vehicle and made an appointment for the following morning (Saturday) to bring the vehicle in. I brought the vehicle to their shop the following morning and Mike, one of the service techs, hooked up the diagnostic computer and captured the error code. The code indicated that the turbo was malfunctioning. Mike was honest with me and told me that type of would be best provided by a VW dealership. The service fee for this diagnostic service was very reasonable. By the way, Melrose 1 Stop consistently has some of the lowest priced fuel in the area.
