"This was NOT our company! We use measuring wheels (not tape measures), we'd never require both spouses to be there for an estimate, and we would get back to you if we said we would..."
The "promises" made by the salesperson were kept. He had advised us we would have a new driveway within 3-4 wks, depending on when the new season started for making asphalty; came in three. He explained the entire process, from removal to completion. Stated the crew call before their arrival; they did. The crew would clean-up after themselves; they did. Foreman would explain exactly what he and the crew would do and the "dos" & don'ts" of a new driveway; he did.
Job took approximatety 2 hours for a 20 x27.
The foreman asked for a signature to identify the job had been completed, that he had explained our responsibilities and we should feel free to contact ADC if we had any further concerns. The following day we were contacted by the billing department to advise us the balance of the bill would be processed.
The workers came as promised, removed the old driveway, widened the driveway as agreed, graded and layed the gravel and gave us a timeframe for completing the project. After the driveway was regraded and the gravel was placed, we noticed a significant difference between our old driveway and the new gravel, leaving what appeared to a possible drop of several inches from our lawn to the new driveway - something we had been assured would not happen.
We contacted the company expressing our concern about this. We asked whether it needed to be regraded to meet this concern before the pavement was placed. A different salesman came out to our house, surveyed the area and said the new driveway was graded properly and assured us there would be only a little drop, maybe an inch or two, or no drop at all from the lawn to the new driveway when it was completed.
The new pavement was layed. My wife expressed concern to the foreman when the new pavement was layed about the four to six inch drop from the edge of the lawn to the driveway that still remained and the foreman told her that they applied the appropriate amount of new pavement.
We have no complaints at this time about what appears to be the quality of the new pavement or the quality of the crews that did the work. It may well be that the new grade of our driveway is best, but we feel that our concerns - expressed at the time we hired the company as well as before the final pavement was layed - were either knowingly ignored or fell on deaf ears.
Telling us up front that a fairly steep slop from our lawn to the new driveway might be necessary - even as much as 4-6 inches - instead of assuring us there wouldn't be an issue - would have been more honest. It feels even more dishonest when a representative from the company to come out to look at our driveway after the gravel was layed and before the pavement was placed and still assured us there would be no real issue.
