also built a custom slid-in bookcase to complete the finished look on the wall behind the expanded kitchen. Everything is beautiful!
Chris had earlier did our master bath renovation and their work is stellar. It's completely first class and Chris thinks about different solutions to any problems you will no doubt run into during renovations.
for a company with experience in complete bathroom remodeling. We had already done our homework and had a
budget in mind but couldn't seem to find the right fit after several other
estimates.
We phoned Chris Otto and made an appointment, which he was
on time and actually a little early!
Always a good sign. We reviewed
what we were thinking about and spent a lot of time describing the job and our
expectations. He was attentive and made
great suggestions on which way to go on some items and helped educate us on
different products and options to consider along the way.
He returned the estimate in a few days and was in the
ballpark for what we knew our project was going to cost if we wanted it done
right and with quality materials and workmanship. We signed the contract almost immediately
since he had made such a good impression on both his visits. Chris gave us a selection sheet with several
different suppliers for the various pieces and parts we were going to
need. I think he is used to the
homeowner taking the most time in this area . . . selecting countertops,
colors, faucets and hardware but we already knew what we wanted and jumped all
over the assignment. We had the majority
of the items picked out and back to him within a few days. And trust me, he uses some of the best suppliers. You're not going to go down to the big-box
store and pick out a $100 faucet. You're
going to go to a tradesman supply house and pick out quality stuff that should
last a lifetime. The same can be said
about his sub-contractors. He uses a
group that he has worked with for a long time and people he can trust. One thing that struck me was that he showed
up every day, whether he needed to do some work or just to make sure the work
area was vacuumed each night before everyone left. You could tell he was trained well and by someone
who knew a little about customer service.
We ended up with a complete bathroom re-model. The
master bath was gutted to the studs, extensive carpentry work needed to build
new shower, walls and sitting bench. A new floor was installed along with
a complete water-proof shield. He installed in-floor heating in the bathroom
and shower as well as a new toilet, sinks, granite counter tops, porcelain tile
floor, shower walls and wainscoting. They installed a custom built
vanity, mirrors and a beautiful oak medicine cabinet. We had new lighting
and exhaust fans put in and all topped off with a fresh coat of paint on ceiling
and walls.
There were a few custom things that needed to be addresses,
such as a larger drain due to size of new shower system. We also were
very adamant about a custom shower that needed to have a frame less entry. In other words, we did not want a threshold
so that a wheelchair or walker could be pushed right into the shower. In the end, he made our bathroom ADA
compliant. Also, since we were going
from a shower that pushed out several gallons of water a minute to over six
gallons a minute, we needed a bigger hot water tank . . . no problem. On top of all this we also needed to upgrade
our existing electrical service box to accommodate the new electrical
requirements. Our panel is located in
our rec room and can be seen . . . so he surprised us with a new hinged oak
door for the box. It looks great!
On top of all this, he also installed two new entry doors
and we hit him with a first. We needed a
doggie door installed since our dog has been trained to use one for years. He was a doggie door virgin, but handled it
without a problem.
Now, with any project this size, you're bound to have a few
change orders and he was very good about getting these nailed down and signed
with new estimates and totals.
We have been extremely pleased with the quality of the work
and our new bathroom. I'd recommend Otto
and Sons to anyone considering a remodel or new build project. You not only gain a great contractor, you
feel like you gained a new friend along the way.
You may pay a bit more for this but we understand now if you were to cut costs, you may or will end up with things not done on time or items fixed a year later if it breaks. If a subcontractor doesn't do a job right, he will take care of it immediately.
He keeps things clean and after the day is done and accommodates ones schedule.
Extremely happy with his service. He is a full contractor but is very much hands on in the construction.
