We contacted Beau at YTF Contracting based on a referral. He accommodated our schedule and stopped by to look it over. He didn't think we would have to replace the entire door and frame, but I was still skeptical as it was an old door and the damage "seemed" to be extensive.
Beau gave me 4 estimates/choices depending on the style of framing we'd like - including pictures. He also included a separate cost for him to paint it. We made a style decision and chose to paint it ourselves as we were doing other painting at the same time. We set a time a couple days out and he said they should be able to finish it in a day.
We had to be away that day so we were 'putting it all in his hands' since he would have complete access to our home all day. However, based on the referral, we felt good about it. Beau and his associate Tony showed up right on time and once we discussed a few things, they got right on it and started taking the screen door off before we could even leave. One thing we discussed was our screen door. I had removed the cylinder that pulls it shut a few years prior as the wind had blown and bent the piston. They offered to replace the one on the bottom of the door and suggested to add another one on the top side to keep the door from torquing if the wind caught it again. I felt that could be a good idea and said, "just do what you think is best".
The one thing that REALLY impressed me is they were well spoken, had a great sense of humor and I could tell they truly enjoyed working together and took what they did seriously. As with any new relationship, however, I still wasn't sure if they would really do a great job, or just an ok job. (spoiler: they did a 'more than expected' job!)
Throughout the morning and afternoon, Beau would send me pictures of the progress. Unfortunately, I had bad reception and couldn't receive the texts and pictures. The other thing he offered was if I wanted a new door bell as the original one hadn't been working for years. I wasn't interested in fishing the wire through the house to find the wiring problem but he left the wires exposed so I could decide what to do.
When I arrived in the early evening, I was first surprised at the screen door. They had put 2 hydraulic closers on it and it actually worked better than a normal door (hadn't been that good in the 13 years we've owned the house!). The one thing I noticed was the security door was VERY tight, to the point I could barely get it closed and the door wouldn't latch (thankfully the deadbolt would still engage). I was really disappointed as it seemed the door was somehow moved or something, which irritated me as they were just replacing the trim around the outside. I contacted Beau to talk with him about it and he asked me if the door always was that tight. I told him no but didn't know why it was doing that. He said he would send Tony over the next morning to take a look at it.
This is why I would HIGHLY recommend YTF - Tony showed up the next morning RIGHT ON TIME and took a look at it. What he explained was what surprised me. They had wrapped the inside of the frame (wasn't there before) and filled the space with expanding foam (wasn't there before either). He slammed the door a few time and it loosened up. Apparently, the foam had made such a tight fit that it just needed to be 'used' a few times. They had done more than I anticipated and made my door work and fit like it was brand new and took the extra effort to seal it against all drafts. I was MORE than pleased and now we have a door that works properly.
The integrity to do what is right and to fix the problem blew me away. Great to see people with integrity that you can count on!
Respected my home and my family's privacy. The YTF team are extremely polite and always knocked as they came in and out of my home, let me know when they were leaving for the day and always cleaned up before leaving.
YTF worked with my insurance estimator to ensure that all of the damage to my home (wind/hail) was repaired/resolved to the fullest extent and managed all of the work they did not do themselves so that I was able to deal with just YTF.
Top notch project management and communication of what was happening so that I was not guessing when I needed to have areas cleared/pets secured, and family members were always aware when work would be going on.
