Sales - Classic Cars
In December 2016 I bought a 1999 Lincoln in mint/excellent/like new condition from American Classics and Hotrods thru the Mankato MN sales office. I told Steve, the salesman in an email not to proceed with the transaction if the car is not perfect. The salesman Steve prepare a video of the car. The video confirmed like new condition. In the video Steve used the term like new to describe the car. I obtained Ford/Lincoln service records on this vehicle. It had 43000 miles on the odometer, was a granny car and well maintained. I asked Steve the salesman about shipping insurance. His response was, 'no need for me to inquire further as the seller and shipper had coverage and would protect the car'. The seller arranged for shipping. I wired the money to American Classics and Hotrods. Upon arrival, the car was trashed with dents, extensive scratches, interior damage and strange banging noises when moving to my garage.. The seller was contacted and approximately 25 pictures were provided. After receipt of the pictures I received a call from Steve the salesman stating, “Hey Kenneth this is Steve calling from American Classics. I just wanted to let you know that um we’re getting this resolved and taken care of for you. The owner of the company is calling the insurance company and he is going to make sure this gets taken care of and resolved for you. If you have any questions call me (507) 214-3550. Otherwise don’t let anybody harass you and we’ll make sure this gets taken care of. You are a valued customer and we appreciate your business. I hope you are feeling better and have yourself a merry Christmas.” Steve left this message on my home message recorder and I still have it. About 4 1/2 months later and after many emails and unanswered phone calls Steve tells me via email they are not going to follow thru with the above commitment. Now I have a car that is in horrible condition and is not drivable. I contacted a lawyer and the lawyer sent Steve and the owners including Michael Jackson a letter outlining the facts and requested repairs or a refund. This letter was ignored. The time and costs involved in suing American Classics and Hotrods is not worth the effort. Based on past experience with American Classics and Hotrods, even if I prevail in court (and the attorney said I would likely prevail) collecting from American Classics and Hotrods may be a whole new issue.. Buyer beware!!
