We contracted with Steve Dahl Construction for a complete bathroom remodel. Steve and Craig were extremely helpful, patient, responsive, honest, dependable, dedicated and always concerned that we were happy with every step of the process. The work was high quality and they were always in constant communication with us. They reviewed the contract with us. The pricing was more than fair for the dedication and work provided. Although we had some ideas of what we wanted for the new bathroom, we really needed some guidance. Craig came in with an architect who helped us with the design. Together we all came up with a plan that we were very excited about. Steve was very clear on what the next steps would be. Meetings needed to be set up for the cabinet design, plumbing selection and tile. Both Steve and Craig were with us while we selected cabinets to help answer questions and explain the process. It made it easy and fun for something that would have otherwise been overwhelming. We knew the start date right away and that was not changed. We were informed every step of the way what was happening next. The project moved along well. The subcontractors Steve used were great. Craig was here when the subs arrived to get them started, checked in afterwards on the status, and made sure they cleaned up. Though the process, we added a number of items we asked Craig to fix in the house. He fixed them all for us, while he was there. He also checked in with me to make sure things were how we wanted them. Steve double checked before items were ordered or installed to make sure it was correct. Even with the final touches, items were pointed out to make sure they were right. For example, making sure cabinet doors when opened didn’t interfere with accessories being placed. Very detailed. All our questions were always responded to quickly and I felt like we were the number one priority. Another thing we really liked is we dealt with them directly, no separate sales person. They were always in constant communication, asking if we were happy with the results, very concerned that we got what we wanted. There were no surprises in the final invoice -- it was the original quote with the items we choose to add on. Steve and Craig were great to work with and would hire again in a heartbeat. They were simply amazing and great to work with. The bathroom is now spectacular! We are very, very happy!!!

We converted two bedrooms and a bath into a master suite. We got two estimates on the project. Steve Dahl was considerably less than our other bid. Granted, he did not have all the bells and whistles we had with the other quote, but he got our attention. We knew people who used Steve on their project so we had an idea of the quality of his work so we decided to go with him. Steve was very easy to work with from the plans through construction. Anything we wanted to change was no problem. Steve did all of the framing, and was kind enough to hep with another project we decided to tackle beside the one he bid for us. Even when not on site the whole day, he did stop by to make sure his crews were performing. Most of Steve's subs were great! He completed the project on time and on budget. At the end of the project, we were billed for some of the extras. However, he did not charge us for many of the changes we made during the course of the project. Overall, we were very pleased and would use Steve again in the future.

We have not had major work done on our house since a bathroom remodel which was an awful experience. Overall the kitchen remodel was a positive experience with a few bumps along the way. Steve always has a smile on his face and he knows what he's doing. Do's Spend a lot of time thinking through your design. Our original plan was to just remodel the existing kitchen. But, when the cabinet contractor became involved, he got us to think about expanding the existing kitchen foot print into our "pass-through" dining room. This added significant time and $$ to the project. Since we plan to "retire" in our existing house, it was well-worth the dramatic change in our original plans. Use a general contractor if you don't have time to over-see the project yourself. Use a contractor that provides a detailed contract and flexibility/new contracts for additional work added/dropped. Don'ts Don't be afraid to express something you don't like to the contractor. A good contractor will listen and suggest what can be changed or explain why something cannot be changed. Description of Work: Steve Dahl was our general contractor and coordinated all work. (Note, the cost of the custom cabinets and counter-tops was an additional $35,000. I will write up a separate review on the custom cabinets.) The installation of the Style-Stone counter-tops was coordinated by the Cabinet maker.) We did not change the exterior of our house during the remodel. The existing kitchen was extended into our "dining" room which expanded our kitchen by 1/3. He uses contractors he deals with on all of his projects to do the plumbing, electrical, custom cabinets, carpet installation, painting, wood floor installation, designer help, etc. I found all of his "contractors" to be outstanding and very knowledgeable. He installed a new front door and a new garage door. He did all of the demolition and removal of the old kitchen cabinets and floors. He was very thorough in his explanation of what would be done and why. He re-routed our existing heat for an upstairs bedroom so that we could have an-entire wall of cabinets. Our end-state kitchen is beautiful. We installed all new stainless steel applicances as part of the remodel. During the course of the project, we added additional changes such as: adding canned lighting to our existing living room, under-cabinet lighting, carpeting of our sunken living room and great room which are on either side of the new kitchen. Our entire project has spanned about 2 month's. (We still have floor board and door trim and staining to do, but do to our holiday schedule, this work will be completed in January.) Dos Make sure you communicate frequently with countractor on issues, concerns, questions. Make sure that you communicate in the way that works best with both you and your contractor. (email verses phone calls.) Make sure that you review the final drawings on your custom cabinets, especially if the design changed for any reason. (we had a major change due to how the heat was re-routed which dramatically changed our entry into our great room.) Use Steve's designer to help you with design issues. I could not decide on a back splash to go with our new counter-top and the designer was very helpful in making a selection. Be flexible and understanding when scheduling changes occur. Don'ts Expect that everything will go as planned. There will be issues along the way. The counter-top I had chosen was being re-designed which put me over the edge..But, they found one slab of the pattern that I originally choose which I liked better than the new design which was similar. Expect that it's easy to remodel. Weigh cost in making all decisions. Changing the position of electrical outlets, adding a new refrigerator that has built in ice/water, getting cherry wood cabinets, upgrading countertops, all increase the project cost.

He was recommended to me. I was impressed with his work. He did a really good job. He was on time and he provided an estimate which was also the final price. He used quality materials. He was a good communicator and did what he said he would do. He provided advise about other issues with the siding and what should be done once I paint the house.
Description of Work: He replaced the south side siding on my house and some repairs on other parts of the house.
