Brian first came out to take a look, then sent an estimate by email, which we accepted. He started the work a few days later and finished in less than two days. Door casing was generally installed nicely, with accurate miter joints at the top. He cut the casing too short on one door, however, and spliced in a separate piece at the bottom, which looks slopply. He didn't point this out to me until it was done. He left noticable gaps when installing the baseboards and stair treads, and explained that painted trim should be caulked and repainted in place after installation to hide the gaps. I guess I can accept that. It did look ok after caulking. When he installed the stair nosing (the top stair tread integrated into the floor), he put too much construction adhesive under it. Consequently, the nosing stuck up above the floor over half an inch on one end and 3/8" on the other end. I didn't notice this until after he had left, so I called him. He said he'd think about it and get back to me, which he never did. I couldn't leave it this way because it was a hazard - someone could trip over it and fall down the stairs. I decided I didn't have confidence that he could fix the problem without causing other problems, such as damaging the subfloor. I removed the nosing myself with a chisel and reciprocating saw and installed a new piece, which I had a cabinet shop make up for me ($60). I spent more than a day repairing this mistake of his. I know that Brian has the skill and experience to do a nice job, but the work he did for me was rushed and careless. If he hadn't made the mistake on the stair nosing, I would have given him a C.
Description of Work: Installing baseboard, installing one prehung door, installing casing on five interior doors, installing skirt boards, stair treads, and risers in one staircase. We supplied all materials. All trim was prepainted.
